  1. My memory is quite recent, maybe 6 months ago. My niece (7yrs old) has the attention span of a goldfish. She can't sit for anymore than a few minutes either watching a movie, and playing a game she normally doesn't even last that (seems to be the iPod Touch generation). Anyway, she was visiting my house and she wanted to play a videogame. My NES was set up so I just popped in Legend of Zelda, knowing that she'd last a minute before she got bored and I'd continue playing. So it starts up and I begin a new game for her. She finds herself standing in the screen with 3 exits, and a cave entrance. She asks me "Where do I go?" to which I reply "Wherever you want.". This look came on her face, a mesmerised look. She entered the cave and got the sword. She was so excited, like she really achieved something. She exited the cave and just went exploring. She even found the first dungeon. For twenty minutes she sat there in front of the TV, focused on the game. She had to stop cause she had to go home. As she was walking out the door she turned to me and said "Is that what real adventures are like?" and I replied "Yeah, they are."
  2. Ever bought Pokemon game that you thought was legit, until you played it and your save files would corrupt, it wouldn't quite work right, and something seemed a bit off? Then you realised you'd been ripped off with a crappy hack from Hong Kong? Well if you didn't throw it in the bin, burn it, smash it, dip it in acid; I'm wanting them. Particularly the Game Boy hacks such as Pokemon Cyber, Pokemon Chaos Black, Pokemon Quartz, Pokemon Naranja, Pokemon Perla, etc, etc. The weirder the better! Send me a PM if you've got anything that might interest me.
  3. I notice this is a common thought amongst people when discussing this topic, but I feel the comparison is wrong and unfair, as another powerup exists in SMW which I find makes this comment void. Blue Yoshi. He takes everything learnt from the tail, and makes it better. It feels more fluid. Now yes, your comment is opinion, and it's your opinion. I just feel that a lot of the time the powerups of the Yoshi's get left out.
  4. Maybe if nintendo saw this they might start putting some aspects of SMW in their newer Mario games, as opposed to flooding them with SMB3 nostalgia.
  5. I have an XEGS, but I don;t have a light gun. But I'd still be keen to see a lightgun homebrew on a cart!
  6. Any 2d platformers that are worth picking up? Other than Castlevania Dracula X Chonicles.
  7. The NES had timers, and as you say, the N64 had a timer, so I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that the SNES had one also. I'd say $150 is a decent enough price.
  8. Anyone know what game Asuka is playing on her Wonderswan in Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance? It's probably not even a real cart that you can see inside it, but I swear the pattern looks familiar, like I've seen it on some Famicom carts. 9. Doing this as I listen. I'll be critical, but try to be constructive. I felt the opening song went a little long, if it was a vodcast the length would be okay. I can tell that you're reading from a script. I'd try and feel a bit more natural about it. It's an 13 minute podcast, with some good prep I think it's highly achievable to memorise your whole script and "act" it out. That might seem unachievable, and I used to think so too. Treat it like public speaking. You seemed to relax a little bit towards the end of talking about Boulderdash 2600. The information that you're giving out is great. The review is covering some good points. I would've liked it if you quickly touched on a few Super Famicom games that you'd recommend along with the tech tutorial. All in all, I don't normally listen to podcasts, but I'm interested to hear some more from you. I can't stress your performance enough. If you would like some simple tips on your performance, send me a PM, without getting into it, vocal performance is part of my job, and I'm happy to help out. Having a big think about your podcast, I'd actually like to frequently tune in, simply because you might have some news that I have missed.
  10. I've heard that games for the Arcadia 2001 will work with the VC4000 and its Advanced Programmable Video System variants. Something to do with them running the same internals. Anyone know if this is true?
  11. Looking for some games to suit the 1292 Advanced Programmable Video System. Particularly the following: Spider's Web Space Attack / Space War Laser Attack Planet Defender
  12. I'm surprised that of the high powered talent that worked on the emulator and wrote games, none of them put a homebrew on a cart. I wonder the same thing but I'm assuming they probably figured that the audience for a Studio II homebrew would be very small. I might buy Space Invaders or something like that just to have a reasonably good game to play on my Studio II, but I wasn't necessarily thinking of a commercial venture, just something to prove that it could be done. The proposed design I saw for putting homebrew games on a cart says it's untested. Hell, I'd put down some cash for a homebrew cart of Space Invaders for the RCA. Anyone know how these guys made their homebrew projects? What coding? What assembler?
  13. Damn, there goes the value of my PAL copy It's a shame that the trailer for it is pretty average. From what I've played of it, the trailer could have been phenomenal.
  14. The problem is that these things are so darn simple. It's odd that it will only work in the middle of the screen. When you fire, does it at least register that you're firing?
  15. Yeah, I've been browsing online and I've accumulated quite the list of games that I'm interested in getting.
  16. I suppose it's good for me in a way. I bought a PSP a few years ago so I could play Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles. Now that I'm finally interested in picking up a few games for it, they're damn cheap online! Cheap RPGs here I come!
  17. Now I understand that the PSP wasn't doing so well, but I haven't really been keeping up with the times on current gen gaming. I walked into a few stores yesterday and noticed a complete lack of PSP systems and games. Nothing. I found one store that had a couple of games heavily reduced. Is the PSP not supported anymore? Is it just a dead system?
  18. I seem to remember there was a guy in New Zealand who did them, boxes and all. This was a few years back though. I'll try going through a heap of old emails and see what I come up with. Edit: This is the guy who I was thinking of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXb1-b_Lsho
  19. I think it is a fair fight, as a good game is a good game. Let's take your Sonic example. I MUCH prefer Sonic on the SMS, as opposed to Sonic for the Mega Drive (Genesis). It's just a better game. I'm ignoring the fact that SMW is graphically superior, and my vote still went to SMW. The level design is so much better, the game flows great, and is much more fun. My only nitpick is that SMW doesn't have the suit power-ups, but flying with the cape is so much fun!
  20. I'd like to see one on the 7800. Hell, if someone made SMB for the 7800 I'd by the system just to play the homebrew! Would be great to have a port of SMB and JSMB2 (Lost Levels) onto the cart. And maybe some extra features like what was included in SMB Deluxe for the GBC. What I'd also love to see is a port of Donkey Kong for the Game Boy to something like the 7800. It was awesome how it started out with the classic levels, and moved on from there. Surely that counts as a Mario game.
  21. Just had a big read through. I really enjoyed the amount of updates and progress this project has. It looks great! n00b question: What's the devkit that is being used in the first video?
  22. The design of the console is amazing! Too bad it never took off.
