  1. I wouldn't say I hate a system, but there's certain aspects of systems that I really don't like.

Wii - Motion controls... I hate them so. It's good when a game gives you an option, but when they don't it down right pisses me off. Take Marvel Ultimate Alliance, a Wii launch title. I couldn't get it to do what I want, but hey, this was also on the PS2, surely they weren't so lazy as to not put in normal controls. Oh, they were that lazy, damn.

Master System / Mega Drive / Saturn - Control pads. Why did it take sega up until the Dreamcast to make a control pad that I was happy with? Why do I have 8 SMS control pads and only 1 works 100%? Why do I have 11 Mega Drive control pads and only 3 work? And it surely can't be blamed on being treated poorly with previous owners, those things felt terrible brand knew. I say they were just made shoddy.

N64 - Controllers again. That damn control stick. But I don't hate it anywhere near as much as what I said about the Sega stuff because the sticks are an easy fix.

  2. Brings back memories. Good memories. Battletoads for the NES is one of my all time favourite games, and although I have never beaten the game, I can proudly say that I can still beat Turbo Tunnel in one go.

A team of coders should get together and release a hacked rom of the game with the coding fixed so that it is possible to beat the game two player, and the option to turn friendly fire on and off.

  3. I introduced my 6 year old niece to LoZ the other day. She's got an attention span of about 30 seconds, and if I put on a movie she'll ask if it's almost over 2 minutes in. But she played LoZ for a good 20 minutes. When it first started with Link on the screen she asked "Where do I go?" to which I replied "Wherever you want." She said it was like having a real adventure.

  4. Great name, "Fist Puncher". What else do you punch with, your feet?!

Is it at all a reference to... "Kick Puncher", from Community?

    Just checking... ;)

Oh, and as to Renegade, particularly towards the end that game is _incredibly_ hard. I had to use cheat codes on Mame to get through it and see the ending. But then, out of nowhere, recently I played it and made it through without losing a life for the first time in my whole life. Must've had just the right amount of sleep and caffeine or something. ;)

Community is exactly what I thought!

  5. Star Fox 64 is bad, but the first one is good? I don't think I've ever met anybody who disliked the sequel when they liked the original, much less liked it less than the original but still liked it.

I really really enjoyed SNES Starfox but did feel let down somewhat by Starfox 64. It's kind of a hard thing to place though.. I did like it though but maybe it just wasn't as much fun?

Actually I think a lot of what let me down about Starfox 64 is they the music! The original SNES music IS "Starfox" to me. But the music in Starfox 64 was pretty much forgettable. I was hoping they'd remix some of the original tunes. It's kind of like if Empire Strikes back didn't have the opening Star Wars music.

e.g. even the stage select sounds epic and spacey :)

I gotta agree that the music on the SNES was much more memorable than 64. I played both equal amounts, and I could bust out the SNES tunes all day, but if someone told me to do a tune from 64, I'd draw a blank.

  6. - I've never beaten Metroid on the NES. I just get lost and I can't be bothered drawing a map, and I have this weird tick with the game where if I die I've got to reset the game.

    - I've never beaten the first stage of Kidd Icarus on the NES.

    - I like Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

    - I think Mortal Kombat 1-3 are rubbish.

    - I love the first Mortal Kombat movie.

  7. Everyone seems to hate it, but I flippin' LOVE Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest Legend for the SNES. It's basic to boot, but there's no random battles, and a killer soundtrack.

Terranigma on the SNES is also commonly overlooked since it never got a release in the USA.

Also, watch out using the term "jrpg", some people get offended by its use.
