I'm ready for the return of a true console, the Dreamcast 2 WiiU really doesn't interest me in the slightest, but I haven't gotten enough information about it. Time will tell with the new Xbox and PS. But I'm not excited about the thought of either. Honestly, think this will be the first gen that I won't be getting a console on or close to release since the 16bit console wars of the 90's. And in terms of features, I'd love it if motion controls and touch screens were dropped all together. They just piss me off a majority of the time. I usually play retro, simply because it's usually cheaper than the current gen.

Sony Vita not doing well in Japan
DemonoidTentacle replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
If it had a UMD drive, then I would call it backwards compatible. But it does not. I wouldn't even consider the 360 to be backwards compatible, as you have to go on their online service in order to boot up your old Xbox discs. I think that, currently, only Nintendo provides true out-of-the-box backwards compatibility. Damn, did not realise it has no UMD drive. Just assumed that's what the games for it were on. I should really do some PS Vita research. -
The Wii U from Yahoo News

I dunno if I'll be putting my money down on the WiiU, I'll wait and see. -
Un-official PS1 thread
DemonoidTentacle replied to Atari Hacker's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Honestly, I've never used a slim PS2, but it could be compatibility issues because of the later model hardware. I'll do some research on it. EDIT: Did some research, looks like you're not the only one having these problems. It appears to be a problem with the slim PS2. I haven't come around a workaround yet though other than using a) an older model PS2, or b) a PSX. 2nd EDIT: There's mumblings that there are two different official Playstation memory cards. An original PSX memory card, and an original PSone memory card made when the PSX became the more slim PSone. Apparently the earlier PSX memory cards will work in a slim PS2, but the PSone memory cards won't. -
Sony Vita not doing well in Japan
DemonoidTentacle replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Can someone explain this memory card situation? What kind of cards are they - Memory Stick Pro Duo again? What's the scheme? Do you buy the "blank" memory cards and then download the games to them? I guess there won't be lots of full reviews (and explanations for those like me who are totally unfamiliar with the system) here in the U.S., until it launches here. This is how I first came about the memory card situation: -

Tekken has never been better than it was with 3. Tekken Tag was a big letdown (bought it, played it once, never again) and played Tekken 4 at a friends house and it wasn't as good. Maybe I'm biased because of nostalgia, but that can't be right cause I played Tekken Tag on launch. -
Sony Vita not doing well in Japan
DemonoidTentacle replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'm considering getting a PSVita after about a year after launch, ESPECIALLY if it flops. Why? Because it's backwards compatible, and it looks like it would be more suited to my hands than the PSP. -
Not bad at all. And an eBay auction aswell!

where did the PSP go?
DemonoidTentacle replied to DemonoidTentacle's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Are there readily available fan translation patches for games released only in Japan? The reason I ask is because I'm really wanting Valkeria Chronicles 3, but there's no word on a release outside of Japan. -

NES & SNES got my vote. Oh, the memories come flooding back. -
Remembering the Dreamcast
DemonoidTentacle replied to swlovinist's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I just had a look on eBay, and it appears that the DC consoles have been selling at a higher price lately. I'm sure this will become a more desirable console in the future, and maybe all these easily available sealed games for the system will become rarities. I still open them though, games are meant to be played! And on the note of the DC, I received Jet Set Radio in the mail, so I know what I'll be doing for the rest of the day. -
where did the PSP go?
DemonoidTentacle replied to DemonoidTentacle's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I for one have only ever had/considered legitimate releases for the PSP. I have heard of people "hacking" the PSP, but assumed it was simply for piracy. -
opinion of Super Mario Sunshine
DemonoidTentacle replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I like the game and I recommend it to anyone with a GC or a Wii. I do like a more direct approach with my gaming though, so that's one of the only things I didn't like about the game. -
I've never come across something as obvious as a burnt PSx disc, but I did find a pirate Game Boy multicart at a Cash Converters once.

Remembering the Dreamcast
DemonoidTentacle replied to swlovinist's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Huh? Did you mean 2011? Originally at least one of these titles was expected this year but was delayed, still something to look forward to in 2012! http://sturmwind.duranik.com/order.htm Available in 2012 TBA http://www.ngdevdire...3d6fa854b9f05bd This product will be in stock on Thursday 15 March, 2012. I did mean 2011, that's when I made the post. Also, I have Sturmwind and Gunlord preordered. I'm really excited for them both! -
Remembering the Dreamcast
DemonoidTentacle replied to swlovinist's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Let's hope that the DC2 will get a 12/12/12 release! I'd be pretty biased if SEGA did release the DC2. I'd make sure I'd sell a heap of my collection just so that I could get the console with every launch title. Hey, I can dream, right? -
Best retro titles for the Wii?
DemonoidTentacle replied to tremoloman2006's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
There's a good Bomberman game for WiiWare. Online is good, but chances are that you'll get your ass handed to you by some 5 year old in Japan. -
Looking to see if there's any interest in a straight trade. I'm looking to really expand my PSone game collection, and I've got an abundance of Sega. I'll list in detail what I've got soon, just wanting to see if there's any interest. Basically I've got a Mega Drive II with a heap of mostly boxed games and one controller, and a Master System II with a heap of mostly boxed games with one controller. Neither system comes boxed. PAL only trade sorry. As said before, I'll list the lot in detail soon with photos. But is there any interest?

It's good to see that as time went by, the designers really got used to the big 3D change. The difference between the earlier games and the later ones can be astronomical. Take Lendorien's example, but replace Tekken 2 with Tekken 3. Comparing Tekken with Tekken 3 is nuts. I wish I still had both games to that I could do some comparison screenshots. Resident Evil, and Resident Evil Nemesis. Big difference. Early experimentation leading up to later masterpieces. I'm really feeling the itch to pick up some of my PS1 favourites. Too bad I "wasted" all my pay on Dreamcast games. EDIT: I would pick some PS1 classics up for my PSP, but I just have such a hard time purchasing a game where I get no physical copy. But then I'm torn still because I really did handheld gaming, it's much easier that having to change which console I have set up. So having something like Abe's Oddysee on my PSP is both appealing to me, and unappealing. Maybe I'll just have to get both. Or maybe Sony should say "Hey, you know what, if you own the original we'll give you the PSP download for free." That'd make me happy. Stuff all chance of something like that happening though. 2nd EDIT: What was that game where you could chose a guy or a girl (from memory she looked like a dominatrix) and it was a 3rd person adventure game. I seem to remember being in dungeons, and it was melee combat with sword and what not. I don't really remember the goal of the game. And there were heaps of traps. Oh, duh. Never mind. Just put two and two together. Deathtrap Dungeon. I must check that one out again. I remember digging the game, but the controls were terrible. 3rd EDIT: Who else liked Crash Team Racing over Mario Kart 64? Surely I'm not the only one -
Most overrated games in your opinion
DemonoidTentacle replied to Animan's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Donkey Kong Country (SNES) I was so disappointed when this game was released. Nothing more than an average platformer disguised in fancy graphics. -
Are there SEGA CD games that won't play on the CDX?
DemonoidTentacle replied to Cobradvs's topic in Sega Genesis
I had no idea this thing even existed. Being from a PAL territory, I hadn't even heard of the Sega Multi-Mega. -
I hate this game. Like REALLY hate it. I think what I hate the most is that it looks so incredibly awesome, but the game is just so disappointing.

I disagree, and agree with different parts of your statement. Yeah, hooking a PSX up to anything but a CRT is a terrible idea. Thankfully I still haven't made the jump to these HDTV's. They're expensive, and I fear change. But no. I don't blame this for people such as myself not thinking that the graphics have aged well. I remember various systems, as an example, you'd buy a 2600, play the 2600, then buy a NES, play the NES, then buy a SNES, play the SNES, then after years and years you say "man, I could go some 2600", and you hook up the 2600. The 2600 is exactly as I remember it. At the time you'd think it looks great, but I always remembered how the past consoles truly looked. But going back to the PSX is a different matter. It's not how I remember it, and I think that's the main cause of people looking back in retrospect, as opposed to the younger people that only know the PS3, and then laugh at the PSX. In a way, it's the opposite of other consoles. Some I look back on to memories past and think "wow, that was so much fun" I go back and play it and it was actually a pile of crap, but it looks the same as I remember. The PSX games gameplay are still how I remember. If it was good, it's good. The PSX gives me many good memories. It's just a shame that my memories of the graphics are through rose coloured glasses.
