May want to ping John about the bug, he's still updating z26.

Dad's doing much better, he now has a pace maker. Still lots of tests going on, and possible another procedure once he's recovered from getting the pace maker installed. I have had some free time of late, though it's been spent getting ready for National Drive Electric Week events which span two weekends. Showed my Model 3 at two events last weekend, Bellaire (Houston) on Saturday and Corpus Christi on Sunday. The Houston proper event is this coming Saturday, and I'll be showing my 3 at it as well. It's a much larger event that the other two. I think I'll finally be able to resume Harmony/Melody club stuff next week, fingers crossed!

The "photo" I used for Dog Mode was actually a frame from a video. The reflections in the glass, combined with the reflections of the placard holder, made it difficult to read "My owner will be back soon" at the events so I headed over to my folks last night and did another photo-shoot with Spicey! Also discovered that Dog Mode works with the windows down, so besides it being clearer due to photo vs video frame, there's also no longer any window reflections to contend with.

CDFJ can do a 128 pixel display, would look the same as the 128 Pixel Bus Stuffing Demo. Works well for static or slow moving things, but for fast action the interlacing causes weird looking motion artifacts. When these blitter sprites move: You end up with this: Think it would work out OK for Qix though. One of my SpiceC kernels will be the 128 pixel bitmap. I'll need a test project for it, so might as well be Qix. Not ETA though, the Harmony/Melody Club stuff has been on the back burner again due to RL. At the moment it looks like I'll be able to get back to work on it next week.

When using HMOVE this way I use cycle 73 or 74 based on research by Bradford Mott. If hit on cycle 72 the movement would only be -7.

There were fewer cars at the Corpus Christi event on Sunday, but way more people showed up to check them out - I gave away twice as many of my handouts as the Bellaire event. Many were shocked at how affordable electric cars now are, even before factoring in the fuel savings (my annual $2000 for gas is now $500 for electricity). The average new car price is $37,401, Tesla Model 3 at $35,000, Chevy Bolt at $36,620, etc. There are less expensive models, though they're more of a city car due to limited range. I was interviewed by KRIS TV 6, which my sister saw on the news last night, but haven't had any luck finding their coverage of the event online.

Turnout at Saturday's event in Bellaire was great! Talked to a lot of people and quite a few kids played Beach Buggy Racing 2 (I had a couple USB controllers plugged in). I was interviewed by Jordan Blum of the Houston Chronicle, brief bit about my recent road trip to Wisconsin made the cut - Houston car lovers get charged up at EV show

Added a 2nd placard to highlight OTA updates, especially Dog Mode.

There's now a total of 6 handouts, a letter and legal size each for the S, 3, and X. Get them via my pinned tweet. I also remembered I have placard holders that I use for retro gaming events, so made something for it.

My USB hub from Jeda arrived, it's awesome! I did run into an issue when I unplugged my USB controllers to put them away - the USB-C ports are snug enough that the Hub moved just enough to disconnected from the car. I didn't realize this had occurred until I noticed the dash cam was offline. The solution is to push against the hub to prevent it from moving when unplugging the controllers. It has a metal plate that you stick onto an SSD drive: It magnetically holds the SSD in place: Cover in place, also held on magnetically: Everything plugged in. I'm using these Macally USB-C to USB A 3.0 Adapters for the controllers, though I'm sure any USB-C to USB-A adapter will work:

I made a new version of the Model 3 handout that's meant to be printed on legal paper and folded in half. I used the extra space to add an example trip using my road trip to Wisconsin. Any input?

I don't know what's causing that, but they're not HMOVE bars. Maze Craze only hits HMOVE once per frame, around scanline 21 so it's not visible. Kaboom hits it multiple times while the screen is drawn, but not on every scanline. Superman hits it once per frame, on scanline 60 which is the red divider line between the score and gameplay areas.

September 14-22 is the National Drive Electric Week for 2019. Most events are the weekend of the 14th or weekend of the 21st, though some do occur during the week itself. Check out the map for an event near you. I plan to attend the Corpus Christi Event on Sunday the 15th, as well as the Houston event at Ikea on Saturday the 21st. I was surprised to see there's now three other events in Houston! I might be able signed up to attend the one on the 14th, the other two are at the same time as the Ikea event. If you're going to show off your Tesla at an event you might like to print out some handouts. I've made handouts for the S, X, and 3 and will be updating them next week before I print out a new batch for the events. Check my pinned tweet for instructions on how to download them, and feel free to make revisions such as an image of your vehicle and your referral code.

I'm working up something about the trip for the upcoming National Drive Electric Week. Any input?

I don't believe the source was posted, just the ROM. I convert the kernel to DPC+, used by the easter egg in Space Rocks, just by looking at the kernel in Stella. Could use gfx and savedis commands in Stella's debugger to create a source file for reference.

Check this discussion. Reply 34 by eshu is 32 character text display using a stock 4K ROM. Each row of text is rendered into ZP RAM over a number of scanlines before it gets displayed.

Making 48 pixels wide picture, saving the last 8 bits?
SpiceWare replied to MemberAtarian's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Great! I just realized I linked directly to reply 6, which is helpful, but there was more above it on VDEL. I fixed the link in my reply to link to the topic. -

Part of the discussion in this short topic should help you gain an understanding of 48 pixels and VDEL. -
Surprisingly enough, Amidar uses both players to draw all the sprites. That's the same technique I used in Space Rocks and Draconian to minimize flicker as much as possible. So if you add an entry to the sprite list and adjust routines accordingly it would work. Two issues with this are: Is there enough RAM for another sprite? are there enough free cycles to flicker-sort a larger list of sprites? To see it in action turn on Fixed Debug Colors mode by hitting the Developer Key COMMAND-COMMA on a Mac or ALT-COMMA on Linux & Windows. The colors are: Then you can see the gorilla is drawn with player0 on some frames: and player1 on others:

Thanks all! All went well; though there was an emergency at the hospital which delayed the surgery, making for a long day. They said we should be able to take him home tomorrow.

No change, RL has been keeping me busy. Had a medical scare with dad and a road trip to Wisconsin. Dad's having surgery tomorrow, so I'm sure I won't be doing any Atari stuff this weekend either.
