  1. I also had to track down SKNS.ZIP to get it to run, it's the Super Kaneko Nova System BIOS.
  2. I like the debugger's I/O tab and how you can control the joystick readings. Paddle readings would be handy too.
  3. 'Battlestar Galactica's' Ron Moore addresses the shocking developments of 'Sometimes a Great Notion' Some interesting stuff, answers the "is it really Earth?" question.
  4. This got me wondering if somebody got Commodore's VIC chip to do interlacing. Sure enough. This was done on the 128, don't know if it runs on a 64 as the VIC chip in the 128 is slightly different. Interestingly enough, the guy pursued this after reading about interlacing on the Atari VCS!
  5. I was thinking it might not be Earth as well, for the same reasons. Last season ended with long-distance-zoom-in to Earth, though that doesn't prove anything as to where they are now. Hmm, that's an interesting theory...
  6. BSG was pretty good. Totally wasn't expecting that bit with Dee. Also looks like my theory was wrong - I was expecting it to be that they colonize Earth way in our past. I figured since the # of survivors was so small they would be unable to maintain their technology and over time their descendants would forget they ever had that knowledge. It would explain how Apollo, Athena and so forth are part of our mythology. I also thought there was a possibility that where they initially settled would end up being Atlantis, the destruction of which(due to something involving the Cylons) would also be a factor in the loss of technology/knowledge.
  7. Whoever picked it, which romset? Europe - puzzloop Japan - puzloopj Korea - puzloopk USA - puzloopu I suspect it'll either be Europe or USA as the other 2 aren't in English. Also which Mode? Panic, Stage or Vs.
  8. I used interlacing on my C= 128's 80 column display all the time as the VDC directly supported it. A lot of the monitors didn't support it, but mine did (probably because it was a TV with connections for CGA and chroma/luma). I wrote a short program that turned it on and patched the kernal for 80x50 support. Writing code with twice the lines visible was really handy. The flicker was annoying, though I discovered that wearing polarized sunglasses reduced the flicker enough to be tolerable. One thing I didn't like about the 80 column display was they still used the "fat" font from the 64. I preferred the thin-line font front found in the PET and VIC 20, so my 80x50 program also loaded that font into the VDC(the font used by the VDC was stored in it's video RAM, so it was easy to change).
  9. That's a bummer, glad I had this. Hadn't heard of her, interesting person. They've got some of her stuff in iTunes, I'll check it out.
  10. I knew players were still being made, hadn't heard they stopped. I've got 100+ laserdiscs - you can see a few of them here(and in the pictures that follow). I used to hide the rear speaker's cables behind them. Now they're stored in the left end of this unit, except for the Collectors Edition of Toy Story that's displayed on the right. As with the switch from LPs to CDs, the decreased size hampers the cover artwork.
  11. I was wondering if it rolled at 99,999 since the high score area only had room for 5 digits. Nope - it it scoots the digits over. 105,300 So, where'd everybody else go? Did I scare you off with this choice? To me the big attraction to the HSC is getting exposed to games I never saw before. Otherwise I'd have picked something common like Rally X.
  12. Some of the earlier episodes are back online. Now I can catch up on the episodes I missed http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/prototype-this/index.html
  13. I liked that - Kraftwerk is another favorite of mine. Just checked iTunes Store, they only have Die Kleinen und die Bösen and the single T.E.O.T.H. for DAF Ooh, I like that too! iTunes has 6 albums for them. I've bookmarked both DAF and WE for future purchases (just paid $120+ to update prior purchases to iTunes Plus, so I've stopped buying new music until they finish the iTunes Plus conversion). I only gave that KMFDM song 3 stars (their cover of Der Mussolini got 4). My 5 star songs for their stuff are all from their albums Adios and Symbols: The afore mentioned Megalomaniac, , D.I.Y., , Adios, Sycophant (can't find on YouTube), , , , Stray Bullet, and Down and Out (can't find on YouTube).

We had 4 people playing Gauntlet on the PS2 and had a lot of fun until we realized you could hit the "insert coin for additional health" button as often as you'd like. It became quite boring after that.
  15. I knew that song sounded familiar! The KMFDM version(didn't know it was a cover) just popped up in iTunes. It says I last listened to it on August 5. I discovered KMFDM via Sputnik 7, where I first saw the video for Megalomanic.
  16. You have to keep holding the joystick up when you hit it.
  17. ......................and how do we do to a video or picture of screen? I know it's possible with mame but I never did. in MAME hit TAB to call up the in-gane menu hit RETURN/ENTER on the INPUT(general) menu hit RETURN/ENTER on USER INTERFACE Look for the Save Snapshot and Record Movie options to see what key(s) to hit. I think they were F12 and Left-Shift-F12. I changed them to HOME on my Mac as F12 is already assigned a system function to show the Dashboard. You'll find the "Screenshots" folder in the same folder the ROMs are stored in. The screenshots will be saved infolders named for each game(for The Pit they're in folder thepitc).
  18. As a kid I wanted to make a game for the VCS, but at the time that wasn't possible. I forgot all about it when I got a VIC 20 and was able to write games for it. In the 90s I became involved in the emulator scene and did the OS/2 ports of Stella, ColEm, MasterGear and Virtual GameBoy. However, I didn't regain the desire to make a VCS game until April 2004 when I started on Dragon Defense Squad. Real life intruded and it ended up on the back burner(where it still remains). Everything finally clicked due to Xmas 2005 - I played Warlords with my nephews and their friends(who were initially skeptical due to the Atari's graphics, having grown up with PS2s and Xboxes, but eventually they had a blast). That lead to Medieval Mayhem, my take on Warlords for the VCS. One machine is enough - you're a programmer, and a good one at that
  19. It's difficult, though it seems harder in emulation than I remember it as a kid. I think how MAME handles joystick readings, plus using an Atari joystick via Stelladaptor (USB) comes into play in that MAME's reaction to a joystick position change lags just enough to be a factor. I suspect that as the week goes on we'll get better at compensating for it.
  20. 34,600 I don't think The Pit was a common arcade game, so I made a video (2:47 minutes, 7.7 MB) of my latest game. MAME saves the video as an MNG file, so there's no sound effects.
  21. I forgot to specify the version - The Centuri one. Romset = thepitc 25,300 (high scores are at the bottom) tips: don't dig underneath a boulder if there's another bolder sitting on top of it, it'll collapse on you right away. However, a 1 pixel wide line will support the boulders. don't get close to the robots chasing you in the mine, you'll lose any hand-to-hand encounters. You can shoot them though. The Zonker Tank is your level timer - once it blasts through the mountain your ship will leave without you and the level ends.
  22. interesting theory on BSG. I'm looking forward to the final episodes as having switched to DirecTV I'll get to see them in HD I know they show them in HD on Universal, but as I recall that was months after the original broadcasts and I didn't want to wait that long as friends were also watching it and we'd talk about the episodes on occasion. I did wait for the HD showings of Torchwood on HD Net as they were only 1 1/2 weeks after the BBC broadcast.
