Hi everyone, I have a NES 101 “top loader” that is receiving power but absolutely nothing happens when the the system is on.  The system was recapped, and a new power regulator was installed.  It is receiving the power, and I attached a LED at the switch and that lights up (9v at the switch).  I even attached a composite video circuit and ran sound out through a composite jack and got nothing.  The PPU and CPU do not seem to be getting power.  The board looks super clean and I don’t see any broken traces.  Anyone have any idea where the fault might be?  Thanks!

You should probably rewire your power LED so that it gets 5V instead of the incoming 9V rail, you can’t tell if the console is actually getting 5V or not with how it’s wired up currently.

Have you checked to make sure you’re getting 5V throughout the console?

how did the adapter work- how could atari vcs game work on a colecovision, is there a vcs of some sort in the adapter?

It was literally just a 2600 that used the ColecoVision for power and as an AV passthrough. The 2600 adapters for the 5200 and Intellivision work in the exact same way.

I merged your three threads into one, and I deleted the second because it was a duplicate of the first.  You already have too many open threads about game controllers; please do not start any more.

Rather ironic considering this is about consolidating controller collections.

  5. I have the LHE mod in my later model 7800 and... it kinda sucks frankly. The fact that you need to wire up a switch to disable the TIA's chroma output to get clean 7800 video is bad enough, but in my experience the 2600 output was lackluster and full of bizarre interference.

Personally I'm waiting for Tim Worthington's 7800RGB to show up at this point (he is actively working on it again BTW!). My 2600, 5200 and 800XL all now have RGB mods so the 7800 is the odd one out.

Nope, and they do not respond to questions on social media at all.  If it wasn't for Kevtris I would not support this company.  The products they release are so good though (because of Kevtris).  My guess is we just never hear another word on the adapters and they will never get released.

They seem to be more happy just posting GIFs on their Twitter rather than giving updates and answering people’s questions I guess. Why is it taking them this long to put out three little passive adapters?

When looking at the official Mega-SG photos of the options (USA, EU, JPN, White), is the main shell of the EU one actually grayer or lighter than its USA and JPN counterparts? Other than the white one obviously, are the power and reset button aesthetics the only differential, and their case shells the exact same shade of black? I've never seen the actual units in side by side images to compare.

I own the EU version, the only color difference is in the power and reset buttons.

  8. FWIW I ditched disk drives on my A8 setup over 11 years ago and I haven't looked back since. And as others have pointed out, using a disk drive with the 400 isn't worth it unless you upgrade it to 48K, since so many games and programs on disk take advantage of the extra RAM. If you really want to have a good A8 experience, get an 800XL or any one of the XEs.

Am I supposed to choose Australia to send money abroad with PayPal, so I can order an RGB board from etim?

PayPal automatically converts the currency for you, I don't know why you're so worried about this.

I think the biggest issue with an RGB mod for the 7800 is the fact that you have two sets of video colorburts to sort through with the 2600 and 7800 color on two different lines. So what ends up working or looking good from the 2600 side might not look right on the 7800 and require additional stuff and switches to flip between them or something like that. I thought Mr. Worthington had been working on something for the 7800 but not sure the status or it was actually someone else?

Tim was working on one but the last time I heard anything about it was a couple of years ago or so. I’ll see if I can email him and see if he’s made any progress.
