  1. I've been reevaluating my collecting priorities lately now that the new decade is approaching...

And I think it's time for my Amiga 600, MSX2+ and Neo Geo to go, among a few others...

Also suggest you start a thread in the forums. Get lots of comments. And offers for your existing hardware too.

@joeatari1 Will do, I currently have it in storage at my parents' place so I'd have to dig it out and look it over. I've done quite a few mods to it including a Unibios install and S-video output. I also replaced the original 270-degree DIN port with a 262-degree one so I could use model 1 Sega Genesis RGB cables with it.

@Keatah I'll probably start a new thread for this stuff since I have some fairly interesting hardware that I'm willing to let go of. My gameplan at this point is to ditch systems I haven't played in a while and replace them all with a MiSTer setup since it's matured quite a lot in the past few years.

Mister is a good alternative to piles and piles of stuff. MiSTer is the "mame" of FPGA projects.

  2. Yes, the XEGS has a SIO port like any other Atari 8-bit computer and some of the same RAM upgrades for the XL and XE will work with the XEGS as well.
  3. Bump! I got my new 1050 fully working now and I'm hankering for some Atari 8-bit stuff.
  4. That’s not an option for the OP unfortunately as these early PS2s use a different power supply than any other model.
  5. I managed to get this figured out, apparently the 1050 needs to have the head be super clean in order for it to read much of anything. It seems to be working fine with all my disks now and hopefully it won’t develop any more faults.
  6. OK, so I think I can chalk up part of this to user error. I had forgotten that the XEGS needs to have the keyboard connected in order for it to load anything from the SIO port, so I hooked up the keyboard and sure enough the 1050 attempted to work. However, I'm getting a "BOOT ERROR" message with almost every disk I've tried save for Rescue on Fractalus. I also noticed that the AC adapter plug is very hot after only a few minutes of use, I don't think I remember that happening with my previous 1050 or even my 810 years ago.
  7. So I recently got a 1050 drive and started collecting disks again for my A8s, but this drive has been nothing but trouble since I got it. When I first powered it on, one of the tantalum capacitors inside exploded and the drive completely stopped working. After replacing the dead cap, it powered on again but it now seems to be completely unresponsive when connected to a computer. It spins up when powered on, spins up when a disk is inserted and the latch closed, but when the computer is turned on it doesn't do anything. I've just replaced U1 (a 3086 transistor array) which I know is a common issue with the 1050, but that had no effect. I've also swapped out the RIOT chip with a known good one from my parts bin, but I still get the same result. I'm kind of at a loss here and I'm really hoping the drive controller chip isn't dead as I know those are fairly uncommon.
  8.  The XEGS joined the RGB fray today...

How can I do it on mine?

@Simius still has some SOPHIA boards for sale if you PM him. The GTIA on the XEGS isn’t socketed though so there’s a fair amount of desoldering to do. I also used an 8-pin mini-DIN as opposed to the DE9 connector that the SOPHIA board comes with since it’s easier to mount.

  9. Love to get the smell of blown capacitors before dinner time LOL

once you get those fumes in your nose hairs, you'll be smelling that smell for days!  lol

  10. If you hold down the reset button while turning the system on you'll get double shots that way as well.
  11. Love having my HDTV and OSSC setup don't get me wrong, but sometimes I'll see a setup like this and I feel the urge to go all minimalist with just a 13" CRT:

If you're sitting at a desk or relatively near your screen, gaming on a 13"-20" CRT is ideal IMO.

  12. The 2600 Jr. doesn't have any screws under the serial number label, it's just the five screws on the bottom and some snaps at the front.
  13. Updated. Added a few long shot games as well...
  14. This is also what I use for my FPGA consoles as well as my 800XL, I have it attached to the back of my entertainment center in a way that I can easily get to it. Works great!
  15. Local record store was having a little Black Friday sale and managed to pick up some gems for a reasonable price

  16. My rarest stuff seems to be SMS/Mark III- related oddly enough. - CIB US copy of Golden Axe Warrior - Bomber Raid for the Mark III - CIB Mark III FM Sound Unit
  17. Well like an idiot I decided to get back into collecting A8 games on disk by getting a 1050. Here's what I'm looking for, loose is perfectly fine but I certainly won't mind boxed/NIB if the price is right: Alley Cat Archon II Beach-Head II Bruce Lee Canyon Climber Chopper Hunt The Eidolon Ghostbusters Karateka Koronis Rift M.U.L.E. (long shot) Mail Order Monsters Preppie Rainbow Walker Spelunker Stealth Super Boulder Dash Survivor Also looking for these C64 disks: 1942 After Burner Archon Archon II Arkanoid Beach-Head II Blasteroids Block Out Bubble Bobble Force 7 Ghostbusters Gradius Hard Hat Mack Impossible Mission Life Force Mail Order Monsters Maniac Mansion (real long shot) Project Firestart Realm of Impossibility Revenge of Defender Rolling Thunder The Simpsons Arcade Game Spelunker Super Off Road Turbo Out Run Zak McCracken (long shot)
  18. Ever since I got a SIO2PC 11 years ago, I always said that I never looked back after ditching my Atari 8-bit disk drives.

    Tonight I'm eating crow.

I never ditched them either, but I rarely use disks these days. Too slow and unreliable. Mainly I used my drives to dump disks to disk images.

That said, the occasional disk game on the Indus is fun. Particularly ones that require disk swapping.

      Gunstar

What you say is true, and I also use them for dumps as well, and with 2 happy 1050's and 2 Indus GT's I can do 4 at a time in syncromesh and ultra speed modes. But especially multi-disk games is what I use them for. If it's a single disk game I generally load an .xex from an SIO or cart device. I do still have some original floppies for some many of the .xex's though, just to use the disk drives a bit more once in a while; because I'm a hardware guy and I get as much joy out of just putting hardware to use as I do the software it loads, (and I don't mind the load times, but I do at least upgrade for fastest tape & floppy drives) And yes, half my hardware hobby time is spent on drive up-keep, but I enjoy it all the same. But I love playing my Atari multi-disk RPG's and Synapse Electronic Novels and Omnitrend's Universe on multiple floppies.

      Gunstar

But sooner or later the floppies (and part for the drives disappear) will die and new sources are already scarce, so one day I probably will be converting some floppy drives into more modern equivalents, but keeping the form-factor.

  19. I don’t have much info other than what Tim said on the RetroRGB podcast and his emails to me. He last worked on it two years ago and it fell by the wayside since then. It should be coming around hopefully by the end of this year or early next year now that he’s started work on it again.
  20. You should probably rewire your power LED so that it gets 5V instead of the incoming 9V rail, you can’t tell if the console is actually getting 5V or not with how it’s wired up currently. Have you checked to make sure you’re getting 5V throughout the console?
  21. It was literally just a 2600 that used the ColecoVision for power and as an AV passthrough. The 2600 adapters for the 5200 and Intellivision work in the exact same way.
  22. Rather ironic considering this is about consolidating controller collections.
