Vinyl lasts a long time as long as you have a stylus in new-like state. A dull needle will wear a disc in no time!

I knew a guy that ran a route with 78 jukeboxes and one model had a 1 pound tonearm!  The records had to be replaced every week!

I'd recommend playing a brand new LP a few times before making a recording. Most people don't clean them properly (there's a few cleaners which help big time) beforehand on a new pressing, and there's things leftover from the pressing process. Even still, a play or two helps get rid of that crap, then clean it, then record I say. Lot less surface noise, clicks and pops.

Also, check out the Last (brand) products. I use a stylus cleaner, then follow up with their stylus preserver after each side of playing. Last also makes a vinyl preserver that lasts for 200 or so plays before you need to re-treat your LP. I've never worn out an LP since the mid 80's. Even my oldest stuff from then sounds as good as ever.

Even before then, can't say I ever "wore" a record out. Except for the times (pre teens) I was using ultra cheap gear and worn styli, placing coins atop the cartridge to prevent skips. Those LP's are toast... but I got rid of them looooooong ago.   :)

  2. Have you tried PMing Simius? He may still have some for sale.
  3. Psst! I’ve updated my FS thread and added a modded European Sega Mega CD II! Check it all out here:

  4. Uhhh who exactly are you addressing?
  5. I’ve had to replace a flex circuit on one of my controllers but the buttons only needed copper tape to get them working again. I did that on most of my controllers about 6 years ago and they still work fine today. The ones with gold contacts hold up well too, I bought one that had already been rebuilt at CGE 15 years ago with gold contacts and it still works as great as it did back then.
  6. Updated the list with a modified European Sega Mega CD II system and a Yamaha CS01 synthesizer!
  7. Anyone interested in a Yamaha CS01 analog synth? Going to be selling mine since I've got too many synths these days haha

  8. I'm looking to pick up a Mega SD so I might sell off my Mega CD II soon. It's a European unit but it's been modified with a multi-BIOS chip so not only can you use it with any Genesis/Mega Drive console, but you can also play CD games from any region as well. Works great with everything that I've thrown at it.
  9. Analogue is apparently still content to post useless GIFs on their social media accounts rather than provide product updates for their customers I guess.
  10. Is it just me or is Amiga stuff way out of control these days?: https://www.ebay.com/itm/223427220817

You don't even get a mouse with it and the accelerator card needs to have the battery replaced. LOL

Think that's bad (and it is), but check out what people ask for an Atari Falcon... I'll take a comparably priced Amiga 1200 any day over that thing. ;)

Everything is out of control now! I'm glad I got my Apple II stuff when I did (what are basic bare II+s going for now, like $300?)...but also sad that I still need (okay, want) a Jaguar and I shudder to think what one of those SOBs will cost by the time my bill situation is [email protected]#$ed enough that I can swing it. lol

  12. Welp I finally caved and bought a vintage CD player for my stereo setup, I've been looking at getting one for a while just because a lot of the early CD players are so damn cool looking

Cool!  Please post a pic in this thread.

Nice; love early CD players myself and most of them still work great!

  13. Is it just me or can I not quickly jump to the last page in a thread? When I open a thread it takes me to the first page, and then I have to type in the page number that I'm looking for. Seriously annoying.
  14. There's the UperGrafx which takes digital video data from the expansion port and outputs 720p over DVI, but it costs about $375 so not exactly an affordable choice.
  15. Just realized I’ve been here longer than I was alive when I first registered

I'd have to be an AA member another 23 years before that happens to me...

  16. Very tired of Analogue using their social media accounts to post useless GIFs instead of posting an update on the Mega Sg cart adapters

I better hope so, that was one of the main reasons why I got a Mega Sg

As well as the Mark III/SG-1000 adapter since I have a ton of Japanese games

  17. It's not just the red label games but pretty much any game manufactured by Atari Corp. has a hard time fitting in the six-switch systems. The cart plastic is slightly thicker than most other games so that's why you practically have to use a mallet to get them in. Worst that'll happen is you'll get a light scuff on the cart but you won't seriously damage anything.
  18. I think I have a feeling who this guy is.
  19. The one with a different faceplate is an older revision, I've noticed that some of the 1984 7800s have a rainbow that goes from red to purple as opposed to yellow to green on the later revisions. I'm wondering if that change was made early on since my 1984 7800 has the latter.
  20. He said "weird" (which it is TBH), not "wired". I replaced the non-standard power jack on both of mine and replaced it with a barrel jack so I can use a model 1 Genesis/MD PSU like I do with most of my consoles.
  21. You're right, the Japanese SMS came with an external RF modulator as opposed to an AV cable. Mine came with it when I bought it 12 years ago, but it was trashed so I wound up tossing it unfortunately. The Mark III's RGB output has no amplifier and comes straight out of the VDP so that's why it's so dim. I fixed this issue on mine by installing an internal RGB amp and it seems to work well. Of course, in order to use the FM Unit with an RGB mod, you'll have to modify the FM Unit as well. It's not too difficult of a mod to perform, it involves swapping the 5-pin DIN with an 8-pin DIN (the U-shaped 262° one, not the more common C-shape 270° connector), swapping the original piggyback cable with an 8-pin cable, and then wiring up the RGB signals to the new DIN jack from the new cable so the RGB signals are passed through. It looks seamless and there's no case mods involved whatsoever. It's simple enough that you could revert back to stock if you wanted to. But TBH you're better off using the Japanese SMS since it has all that and more. It's even compatible with the Light Phaser whereas the Mark III is totally incompatible with it.
  22. We've already got an excellent FPGA-based Genesis with the Mega Sg...
