  1. It doesn't matter. You can play just about any cart on the XEGS except for a few Roklan carts. You can also play most XEGS carts on the other 8-bits too, but some XEGS carts require more than 32K of memory like Hardball. So you can go ahead and take out all your old 8-bit carts (if you have any), and play them on the XEGS.

  2. I finally got my Atari 600XL today in the mail, and of course, I was very happy with it. I hooked it all up, and when I turned it on, all I got was a black screen. When I pushed the Reset key, it made a small beep like it was supposed to, but I still got nothing. Can anybody help me out?

  3. I dug out a 1541 drive from my dad's old box filled with Commodore stuff about a year ago, and when I tested it, it powered up like it should, but the red drive status light stayed on and I couldn't load or save anything! And the funny thing is, my dad said it worked flawlessly the last time he used it. Are there any bad chips in it, and if so, where's a good place I can get chips from?

  4. It's about time for me to compare the two systems...

5200: I've only played this system through emulation, and even though I can get most of the games on it for my 600XL, there are a few that stand out from the others like Berzerk, Space Dungeon, Robotron, Qix, Centipede, and Vanguard. :) However, it's the poor controllers that turn me off from the system. That, and it doesn't have 2600 compatbility out of the box.

7800: I've also only played this one through emulation, and the 7800 is a spectacular system (this is coming from the mouth of an NES fan and collector). There a lot of great games for it like Ballblazer, Centipede, Asteroids, Ms. Pac-Man, and Joust. If there has to be one thing the 7800 is great for, it's the kick-ass arcade conversions. 8) The original games are great too, although some are a little too weird for my taste (like Ninja Golf and Basketbrawl). :ponder: And of course, the other thing I like about the 7800 is that it has 2600 compatbility out of the box.

I like both systems a lot, but the 5200's horrible controllers keep me away from playing the actual system. So I'd have to go with the 7800 on this one. 8)

I think this is the longest and most thought-out post I've ever typed. :)

  5. I showed my dad a good deal for a 7800 on eBay, and he refused it because he said I didn't need it. :x Then I told him I had $125 to spend, and then he said I don't need to spend my money on "junk" like this! I'm so pissed at him right now. :x :x :x

  6. Well, I had my graduation party today, which is why I wasn't around here for most of today. Anyway, I set up both my Atari 2600 and my NES in my mom's office, and they managed to rack up more time than the PSX and the N64 that were set up in my room! I had tons of fun playing Warlords, Video Olympics, and Basketball! You guys were right. The 2600 IS great for parties! :)

P.S. I got $125 from all the cards I got.

  7. I just happen to have a C64-to-PC cable I found among my dad's old C64 stuff. One end connects to the user port on the back of the C64, and the other end connects to the parallel port on the PC. I also found some C64 games on 3.5 inch floppies. 8)
