I do not. I bought an NES back in 2005-ish, and it wasn't working so I opened it up and found what looked like a roach nest. I tossed the whole thing in the trash, wasn't even going to try to deal with it. *shivers*

  2. Grabbed a UAV board last night so I can finally sell off that Vader 2600 I have laying around, would anyone be interested?

      McCallister

Cool. I would be interested if it's the UAV with s-video.

S-video would definitely be in the cards for this thing.

  3. Got my 800XL's SOPHIA board transplanted into my new 1200XL today...

Just got an untested 1040STF today and saw that something exploded in the PSU... and was then repaired... badly

TT030 or Mega STE would be the way I would go if I had to revisit.

DHL was dropped by Amazon I don't know if they are using them again, make sure before you sign that the item is in the box I sign without checking and when I open the box camera was missing, very small hole in the box and the guy took off like a jet.

  7. So I have the opportunity to get a (untested) 1040STF for under $100, yes, no, maybe?

    1. bluejay

      bluejay

Sure, if you have money to spend.

$100 isn't bad. 1040ST prices have rised a lot, and the best price I've ever ran across is a 1040st with a monitor for $200. I'd say you go for it!

  8. There's a few cheap STs on eBay right now... must... resist...

  9. Recently picked up one of those IPS screen kits for a broken Game Boy Pocket I had laying around. Just got it all connected aaaaand the top half of the motherboard doesn't sit flush. Great.

  10. I realized that I replied to so many "What systems do you have" threads over the years that I think I can piece together a pretty accurate personal history of what systems I've owned over the years. Sometimes being an overactive teen pays off LOL

  11. For anyone who's ordered from Best recently, how long has it usually taken for Brad to respond? I sent him an email for some parts I need over a week ago and he hasn't responded yet...

      joeatari1

I usually call.  Just ordered something last week and had no problem.  Maybe he's on vacation?  Just make sure you put a reference to Atari in the title line so it doesn't go to his spam filter.

    3. doubledown

      doubledown

I sent e-mail request a couple weeks back, I got a response within 1 day (around the holidays too), I responded back and sent payment, and I had my items a few days later.  Did you follow their e-mailing instructions with putting specific Atari item/part number info in the subject line of the e-mail so it gets read?

    4. ApolloBoy

      ApolloBoy

That's weird, I made sure to mention Atari in the subject line and put down the part numbers of what I wanted. I've ordered from Brad before a few times and he was always prompt so I'm wondering if maybe he went on vacation or something.

  12. Starting to put up stuff on eBay, come check out what I have here: https://ebay.to/2RaVtv5

So far I've been mostly putting up parts I don't need anymore, but there will be some good stuff coming soon!

  13. I've been reevaluating my collecting priorities lately now that the new decade is approaching...

And I think it's time for my Amiga 600, MSX2+ and Neo Geo to go, among a few others...

Also suggest you start a thread in the forums. Get lots of comments. And offers for your existing hardware too.

@joeatari1 Will do, I currently have it in storage at my parents' place so I'd have to dig it out and look it over. I've done quite a few mods to it including a Unibios install and S-video output. I also replaced the original 270-degree DIN port with a 262-degree one so I could use model 1 Sega Genesis RGB cables with it.

@Keatah I'll probably start a new thread for this stuff since I have some fairly interesting hardware that I'm willing to let go of. My gameplan at this point is to ditch systems I haven't played in a while and replace them all with a MiSTer setup since it's matured quite a lot in the past few years.

    4. Keatah

      Keatah

Mister is a good alternative to piles and piles of stuff. MiSTer is the "mame" of FPGA projects.

How can I do it on mine?

    2. ApolloBoy

      ApolloBoy

@Simius still has some SOPHIA boards for sale if you PM him. The GTIA on the XEGS isn’t socketed though so there’s a fair amount of desoldering to do. I also used an 8-pin mini-DIN as opposed to the DE9 connector that the SOPHIA board comes with since it’s easier to mount.

  16. Love having my HDTV and OSSC setup don't get me wrong, but sometimes I'll see a setup like this and I feel the urge to go all minimalist with just a 13" CRT:

If you're sitting at a desk or relatively near your screen, gaming on a 13"-20" CRT is ideal IMO.

  18. Ever since I got a SIO2PC 11 years ago, I always said that I never looked back after ditching my Atari 8-bit disk drives.

    Tonight I'm eating crow.

I never ditched them either, but I rarely use disks these days. Too slow and unreliable. Mainly I used my drives to dump disks to disk images.

That said, the occasional disk game on the Indus is fun. Particularly ones that require disk swapping.

    3. Gunstar

      Gunstar

What you say is true, and I also use them for dumps as well, and with 2 happy 1050's and 2 Indus GT's I can do 4 at a time in syncromesh and ultra speed modes. But especially multi-disk games is what I use them for. If it's a single disk game I generally load an .xex from an SIO or cart device. I do still have some original floppies for some many of the .xex's though, just to use the disk drives a bit more once in a while; because I'm a hardware guy and I get as much joy out of just putting hardware to use as I do the software it loads, (and I don't mind the load times, but I do at least upgrade for fastest tape & floppy drives) And yes, half my hardware hobby time is spent on drive up-keep, but I enjoy it all the same. But I love playing my Atari multi-disk RPG's and Synapse Electronic Novels and Omnitrend's Universe on multiple floppies.

    4. Gunstar

      Gunstar

But sooner or later the floppies (and part for the drives disappear) will die and new sources are already scarce, so one day I probably will be converting some floppy drives into more modern equivalents, but keeping the form-factor.

  19. Well, tried to finish up a transaction on NintendoAge last night only to find the site had been murdered. Lovely!

@pacman000 : I don't think he cares as he's moving away from the hobby and that was one of the reasons for selling the site off in the first place. His collection was sold off to the same person that bought the site IIRC.

Their reason for changing is that the old server NA rested on was being decommissioned. I still find it strange they went the route they did, however. NA forum threads are still there, but seller feedback, scoreboard high scores and the games database are completely missing. What a waste.

They're practically begging you to jailbreak it and put the ROMs on an SD card with those GG and SG-1000 GIFs, aren't they?

  22. Added a ton of Famicom stuff for grabs!

  23. Are there any Intellivision flash carts still being sold? Figured I should invest in one soon...

      RockyRaccoon

I was wondering that too, myself. ?. The only major one I can find online was sold out as of Jan 2019 but apparently was gonna have another run in the summer... except that period has more or less passed since we're almost into fall. Gonna be watching that thou.

Vinyl lasts a long time as long as you have a stylus in new-like state. A dull needle will wear a disc in no time!

I knew a guy that ran a route with 78 jukeboxes and one model had a 1 pound tonearm!  The records had to be replaced every week!

    3. save2600

      save2600

I'd recommend playing a brand new LP a few times before making a recording. Most people don't clean them properly (there's a few cleaners which help big time) beforehand on a new pressing, and there's things leftover from the pressing process. Even still, a play or two helps get rid of that crap, then clean it, then record I say. Lot less surface noise, clicks and pops.

    4. save2600

      save2600

Also, check out the Last (brand) products. I use a stylus cleaner, then follow up with their stylus preserver after each side of playing. Last also makes a vinyl preserver that lasts for 200 or so plays before you need to re-treat your LP. I've never worn out an LP since the mid 80's. Even my oldest stuff from then sounds as good as ever.

Even before then, can't say I ever "wore" a record out. Except for the times (pre teens) I was using ultra cheap gear and worn styli, placing coins atop the cartridge to prevent skips. Those LP's are toast... but I got rid of them looooooong ago.   :)

  25. Psst! I’ve updated my FS thread and added a modded European Sega Mega CD II! Check it all out here:
