  1. Intersting replies, but still not quite sure about my controllers. Well, on the games Burgertime and Beauty/Beast it works just fine... so... but noticed on Lady Bug, I can't go up in the mazes well., even trying to hit up as well as I could, only worked 70% of the time.
  2. Go on! Open... I'd say life is too hard and short to not enjoy a rare game. I don't see the point in collecting sealed games, unless you plan on being a millionaire at 90 years old. Do hardcore collectors plan on selling 70 year old sealed games in their golden years?? Oe why do they like them sealed? I mean...if it hasn't been opened the wrong game could be inside, it's very rare but DOES happen But I do however recommened treating them rare games like gold.
  3. Well, not sure if this is a problem but with Microsurgeon and Night Stalker, seems that the controls hang a bit while in moving around in both games. Kinda hesitates or gets stuck... sometimes in Night Stalker I try to move the pad up.. but goes straight across instead. Wondering if this is just how it is, or does my controllers pads need a clean or fixing?? I think it might be just how the games are, since both controllers reactions are exactly the same. I also noticed on Mission X , can't even fire at things sometimes, have to tap the button 2 or 3 times just to drop a bomb?
  4. Iv'e never owned a videopac so I don't know. Just thought maybe that might be the problem, but I don't think so after reading Seob's post. Maybe the problem is uh, the power supply is not sending enough voltage to the computer? Normally when I see that kinda picture after turning on a game, means the game is dirty... not the computer itself, but the game. My "War of Nerves, Pocket Billiards" had some problems like this I swabbed the Billards game for example with a dry q-tip (not even wet) and it's perfectly fine again.
  5. Wow, can't imagine getting that for a score. Nicely done Here's my 2nd score, 14,650 and probably my last
  6. 8,800 1st official score post for Gravitar.
  7. njb... here's two Odyssey 2/Videopac websites which are vital to look up scans, manuals, forums... etc http://www.videopac.org/ www.videopac.nl/ Both European sites... but they also include 0dyssey2 and videopac.nl is currently the most active! Plenty going on in the forums. Also has an O2 arcade online, which u can play 02 games in emulator form.
  8. I think by looking at that picture, could be that a person left both those consoles on with no game inside, or would pull the game out while it's still on?? I think I read at Videopac.org, that that guy from UK... broke his videopac by doing something like this, read his section... """My console actually broke after about three months, I didn't actually get it from Argos in the long run, it was bought from my local Toymaster as a Christmas gift. It broke because I discovered a neat trick with PAC no 1. Race/Spinout (did anyone ever actually play cryptogram ???), by starting the game, removing the cart and re-inserting it, the walls disappeared and you could wiz around in a wraparound world. Head down in shame we took it back to the shop denying any abuse of the system, and after about 2 weeks they replaced it.""""
  9. NEW BIATHOLON AND SPEED SKATING SCORES (FINAL) SPEED = 0:26.1 BIO = 0:57.3
  10. Here's a game I played first time this last week, Night Stalker... wasn't sure what to expect but it impressed me. I do prefer the fastest, or second fastest game setting...others are a bit tooo slow. Hmmm, off I go in Night Stalker, Ah! the game has an evil robot beat in the background, while the action goes. Okay nice, but firstly, I gotta shoot. I saw the grey robot explode from my hit, and pieces destroy around me. Woah! Didn't expect that, Cool. These Intellivision graphics and effects, are very interesting when you first experience them, even in 2010. Then it was time for me to learn my controls properly. Worked on the keypad, sorta memorized where my fingers need to go, and stopped looking down at the overlay. One nice feature is one bullet can destroy two things if they are in the path of it. Looming around as long as I could... shooting and dodging around corners, got to a high score of about 29,000. Overall, I find the game pretty addicting and actually like it much more then Berzerk on Atari 2600. (another game of shooting robots) Yeah, Berzerk is fine, but I couldn't get into it much. This Night Stalker game on Intell, has smarter robots, less traveling around empty black rooms, and the challenge is more even. Berzerk it seem very easy at first, then suddenly it's impossible. NS, you have 2 bats, several "DIFFERENT" robots... and also a spider. That to me is much more fun, and the sound is far superior on Night Stalker. Did I mention sometimes the robots in Berzerk, just self destruct themselves into a wall?? lol, Duh!! I'd say Dark Cavern for Atari 2600 is a nice competition for Night Stalker. I always had good fun with Dark Cavern. That was one reason I got Intellivision, because the games are by Mattel, and I knew I liked what they done on the 2600.
  11. Yeah, I first tried this game like it was a random shooter, and it's more then that, and glad it is. I imagine Itellivision games generally would be tough for small kids, because of strategy and tough controller buttons, overlay options... requiring a manual reading. Though being an adult this is what I look for ...challenges and thinking.
  12. Yeah, cool game... I heard not great things about it. So, I'm pleased to say, I like it. I did try the hard level setting, lost earth 3 times... but tried again, used warp 1 (slowest) and got them aliens... wasn't easy but received a score of 6,220 on the "no misses" game variation. Plenty of nice settings to choose from.
  13. Played Star Strike officially the first time today, and wow... had not expected to like this. I first tried it with just quick read through the manual.. and played it, hated it, turned it off. But decided to go back in, re-read the manual carefully, and started playing made a few mistakes, was confused... I heard a weird clicking sound, thought the game was breaking but read that it's just damage to the ships engines or beam whatnot. Oh ok good! Suddenly then dropped a few bombs and the screen shook wildly... woah what was that...??? Manual = hit swooping red alien ship. Ah... I see.... coool. Next the earth explodes.. OMG! Oh, I let too many red alien ships past me, and the earth passed too far outward and was exploded by the aliens??? Holy crap! No pressure...!! Anyhow, suddenly put it all together... even the use of warp speeds... and damn this is a fun game to me, when I UNDERSTAND how to play. Alien ships you have to WAIT for them to pass you, before you can get a clear shot into them... (but thinks the bombs can work on blue ships, and also may have seen alien ships accidently hit other aliens lol) Then when the game ends and you win, the Green Alien planet blows to bits, and the victory music cue plays. WOW!! Now that's gaming for 1981. Can't imagine playing this in the day, it's tricky but once you learn, there's no turning back.
  14. NEW (PERFECT) HOT DOG SCORE & ICE HOCKEY. 10.00!! 15-3
  15. New Bobsled high score, for SWEDEN 0:24.1
  16. Anyone reading this forum about WINTER OLYMPICS. Still spots open for competition, even if you don't own each game or have the emulator, you could default from the event if needed... but can't help but to notice that, Norway Canada UK, only have 1 person/teammate each. If these teams can get at least 1 more person each, that would be great to see. Mr. Galaxian In case the Atari 2600 Winter Games "end" and the teams are uneven like now, will a switch teams draw be done, such as a USA teammate will be placed into Norway etc? Or will the final result be of whoever felt like participating in competition? Since Feb 28th is nearing, maybe would be best to either extend the time for this, or shorten the teams to 2 a country... or maybe 3? What you think?
  17. Cool. Nice find, and yes those controllers are pretty rare. Odyssey2 was the first video game console I ever played, what makes it special besides the sentimental value, to me is... the flicker free graphics and smooth controls. The games are easy to play, and rarely any problems with their control or gameplay. Freedom Fighters was one of my favorites as a kid, also enjoyed Pick Axe Pete, Monkey Shines and KC Munchkin. Just to name a few. Only things to remember as an Odyssey owner... it's always good to make sure the game is not pulled out while still on, or turned on with no game in, or dirty games sometimes can make graphic shapes scrambled, the (SELECT GAME) screen could look like this *M ELECT AME*. It's a good idea to do a gentle cleaning (with or without rubbing alcho) just to be on the safe side, to prevent game malfunction or damage to the O2 console. If there's any questions you have about O2 games or whatnot, feel free to ask. It's a pity O2 only had a small library, with counting the north american games, as if it had only about 20 more common games (back in the 80's) it would be my favorite classic console. Games to find, Pick Axe Pete KC Munchkin KC Crazy Chase Killer Bees Quest for the Rings Turtles Attack of the Timelord Freedom Fighters UFO Turtles may be hard to track down, but the majority is easy to get a hold of. Good luck in your collecting.
  18. Found a blue "marking" on the chip of one game, D&D, is that supposed to be there? Seems to me, I might have seen that before....any ideas? here's a pic just to have an idea.
  19. My understanding is that you had to "survive 5 days"... that should mean getting to day 6, should it not? Is this just poor wording on the part of the manual then? --Zero No no, what it's trying to say is, when you reach day 5 (in the scoring) means you have completed 5 full days. So when someones on the 5th race they are trying to survive the 6th day. I survived 5 days, and lost heading for the 6th. The trophy cup appears showing that you achieved the "patch" score.
  20. Picked up some 90% and new q-tips. Got to work on the games and most cleaned up good, and things are going okay, and I hope all will work/play fine. Gotta sleep and check back tomorrow when I can play them. : 90% works better I think, and seems to dry better then 70%.
  21. Okay great! Thx for the fast replies you guys. I have 70% alcohol, is that fine too? I also have 50%... but no 90% here. Would you all recommend 90%, or is 70 basically the same and good enough? Yes, no lables will get wet. I been lucky, I never ruined 1 label. I gave all the boxes a soild but light cleaning...(windex/towel) also cleaned the overlays... and looks waaaay better now. They look new! Now, it's time to fix up those games contacts. (If I get the approval for u guys, on the bottle of 70% alcohol) Ransom, this will also kill any germs, and absorb any animal funk that may be left in the games? Though, most seem just fine to me... but trying to be careful at same time, and not ruin anything. Peace.
  22. Recived my new boxed games, however were very dusty and even 1 game seemed to have a few mouse droppings in the white game holder (could be wrong)... i quickly got rid, and washed my hands. (luckly it's only one game this occured, and it's a dublicate of a game i have) but i dunno i wanna be excited ... though items aren't as good shape as i hoped.. BUT, maybe i'm bein picky? it is 20+ year old stuff. it would be fine if i didnt imagine mice running all over the games. *Sigh*, but thats how it goes with stuff from attics basment, I can't go back now... might as well deal. So, I think maybe a rubbing alcohol cleaning can clear up grime, dust, hair, "dropping" etc.. right? If there's any animal, mite, worm.. living in the game, an alcohol q-tip scrub would make it 100% clean again, you think? I didn't clean my first 7 boxed games, cuz they seem ok... just a few cobwebs but decent enuff but maybe it's a good idea to clean every game now with Q-tip + Alchy? I did clean bowling because it shut off in mid-game probably mold.. now it works great. As I have gotten older, I want all my video games to shine clean, and not have dust, I hate that... when I was kid I didnt care however... lol. Please anyone reply soon.
