  1. A few VITAL tips in case you want to try to roll your score before the game week ends. - After you destroy 4 beanies you get a free bopper life, and this enables the oranges to fly down. - Do your best to smash at least 1 orange over and over (2 if u can keep it up) - So by "holding down" the fire button this will give you aufo-fire. (short range auto-fire) Try shooting upwards at those oranges and that will keep bopping up your score. The key to a best score is to keep rolling over those oranges at a fast pace, run after them if you have to, don't worry about much just run into them, as they won't hurt you as "oranges". - With this technique, by the time you get 60,000... 100,000 is not far off! Just keep at this plan, and keep destroying 4 beanies to get ur extra life or more important them oranges! -After 100,000 well you're on your own, lol.
  2. Woooo! rolled it, 101,770 After the score rolls, ... suddenly looks like you're in a dark room... with tons of invisible walls. lol. The action does get slower, the beanies calm their oceans... but yet it's twice as hard! The gun shoots but doesn't hit anything lol. I thought it was awesome to have the game change like that, but almost plays like the game is broken after 100,000.
  3. Yeah, I will be getting 'Crypts' in the mail soon. Thanks for the map, just might come in handy! Since I like just about every 20th Century Fox game. This one also could strike a positive chord.
  4. Oh great.. lol, I came close to the roll.. but when I reached to paused it, it lost a life of mine, and messed up my momentum. Not sure if I can do it again... my hands are shaking. No more for today. PS, Love this game, in an average kinda way. 93,650

  7. I understand what you mean. Being two huge arcade titles they really needed to be better then this. Atari was already starting to bag... why did they rush job the most important game for the system EVER??? This is theee end... my only friend.
  8. Some more dissapointments... Freeway, thought it would be like Frogger (Frogger's older bro), it was like Frogger, just minus all the good stuff. Never got into it, it's like Barnstorming. Donkey Kong, I really thought this was mediocre , so much I gave it to my cousin as a birthday present. LOL... 2 screens only???! It's over before it starts... but now I somehow like it a lot more then I did in (late 80's or so) even if it's missing screens but it's an "ok" game. At least it's got increasing difficulty each run through. I don't see DKJ being much worse then this, as both have their problems. Turmoil, The game plays fine, but it's not fun to me. No where near as good as the reviews I read. Your ship goes... left,right,up,down,up,left,right...zzzz. Would be better with smarter and faster enemines. I don't even care about what score I get, screw up on purpose... due to boredom. Not enough challenge and hollow gameplay leaves a void. For me its only average or fair. Laser Blast!, did I mention this one yet?? It's like watching traffic go by... if this is anyones favorite game ever... holy christ have mercy on you. lol. PS, can't believe someone was dissapointed with Yars' Revenge. Oo.
  9. OKay good, that doesn't sound too bad, seems like a game I can get into. And I bought one from eBay for a little over $10 bucks with manual with it. So, I'll post what I think of it soon. Even if it's not so great, I may just keep it for the collection. Thanks for the info everyone.
  10. That's another one I wasn't even aware existed until the 90's. Anyway, got rid of my copy long ago... have the TI-99 version and love it! Burgertime has got to be up there also for unnecessarily slow gameplay. BTW: grew up in Libertyville, IL and never knew Tigervision had an office on Orchard in Mundelein (next town over)! lol Cool, I grew up in Lake County IL and been to Mundelein many times. I also didn't know of Tigervision bein' there. Though my bro found 2 Tigervision games complete in box, at McHenry Salvation Army. KING KONG and JAWBREAKER. 1 dollar each. PS, Mundelein translates in German as 'Mouthlet'. What the heck is a mouthlet lol As for my most dissapointing 2600 games - Double Dragon and Pac-man. I had bought D.D. new and what a hell difficult time. Broke a joystick playing it. and Pac-man, I never played it at arcade as I was only 2 yrs old when it was big. But when I played it on 2600... wow, lame. I do like it (ok) now, but still knew it coulda' been way better. I can't say I was dissapointed with Swordquest Earthworld as I got it during the internet age, and knew the bad things people said about it. It had plenty of potential but was way too complicated in dropping off the items to each room. Should have been easier... PS, Mountain King, yeah... I was dissapointed playing that one too... I still have yet to get up to the f____n' top with the crown on my head. Those bats really can wreck everything... and I hate the jumping controls.. when you land you are stuck on ur knees for like 3 full seconds. But besides that it is an 'ok' game. But nothin to be really excited about.
  11. Considering buying this game, not sure if its worth it... anybody enjoy this one? I only read two bad reviews on it so far, anything cool about it? I played Dark Chambers before (a similar game), thought it was mediocre mainly because its too long and easy. Also the wizard moves too slow around the rooms, if he moved quicker would have made a huge difference. Which of these two games do YOU like better?
  12. At the time when Crash Dive was released for the 2600, Fox Video Games already had one foot in the grave. Its previous efforts like M*A*S*H* and Porky's were dull and unimaginative, and even apathetic mainstream gamers quickly saw through the licensed fluff for what they were... garbage. Crash Dive merely continued that tradition. Title Crash Dive Publisher Fox Video Games System Atari 2600 (VCS) Graphics 2 Sound 4 Gameplay 2 Overall 2 Reviewer Keita Iida Still bashing Fox at every turn, and I don't see these graphics a 2 rating. I haven't even seen a 2 on the whole review page! Yet somehow Fox games, Fast Eddie got away with a very high rating. How are the graphics a 7 for Eddie and a 2 for Crash Dive, I think Crash Dive looks better in the graphics! Title Fast Eddie Publisher Fox Video Games System Atari 2600 (VCS) Graphics 7 Sound 5 Gameplay 7 Overall 7 Reviewer Keita Iida
  13. Can you post some quotes that illustrate this? Whether your reviewing video games or film et al, it's implied that it is one person's opinion. However, as it was said in another thread regarding the omission of Space Invaders from the "Greatest Video Games So Far," it helps to know who is reviewing this stuff to gauge the credibility. 1 quote from mr K.I. "Had it offered a two-player, split-screen mode, Barnstorming would rate as one of the best multiplayer games for any console." My ass... lol.
  14. I haven't played many Porn games on Atari 2600. I tried a few on emulator and none seemed even close to being good fun. Overall Breakout is scored the highest so far I think, higher then every arcade port. 15. Ehh... are you sure about that? I'd say they're both pretty even and 'OK' games at that. I think Cosmic Creeps I like a bit more. I voted Cosmic Creeps.
  16. My 3rd and probably final score. 0:28:41
  17. I am not saying you shouldn't respond but those posts are on youtube not here. Respond to them if you like but don't confuse the arguments of those who never played the game with those who did play it when it was released and don't like it. Does pre-teen youtube posting even require a response? No, it doesn't require a response, but it's annoying. Also... if I choose to post a topic about E.T. getting bashed on youtube in droves... I can and will. I posted my feeling on the subject, "HERE" and not youtube, because I wanted to hear *REAL* opinions of Atari fans who owned E.T. before 1990. Not emulator/retro teen crowds, who don't know what their sayin'. I'm also not using youtube anymore, not since 2007, my account was closed for posting music videos... and I'm glad I posted my topic here and not on a new youtube account, because I actually got good feedback. Not B.S. replies or insults. - I'm confusing things?? There's no confusion of argument, I never said everyone is wrong for hating it, my post says.. ***annoyed with e.t. haters online*** not **annoyed with everyone who hates E.T..** haters meaning posting that goes on and on...just trashing the game... not people who just don't like it and choose to play something else.
  18. So what. You can find the same nonsense on any sports star, professional team or rock band. Those comments either positive or negative are meaningless unless you are just gauging public opinion. Clearly in this case the public opinion is more negative than positive but that is all it tells you. For me I can say I was alive and played the game back then. Everyone I knew at the time hated it. It is not a great game and it should have been. So what? Well... if someone says a game sucks, and is the worst video game ever... and if YOU strongly disagree, well itsn't it normal to speak up (on the forums) about your opinion? That's what they're here for, 'forums' and... I wanted to show the negative comments on E.T. and how it's taken too far. AND, if you don't think it's a big deal what others comments are, why do you go indepth with your replies back here on the subject matter??? I know why, same reason I am replying, perhaps a different view, but. I just think people who haven't played the game, or weren't alive when it was made cannot act like they "know it all" and say E.T. is the worst game ever made, is atari's downfall and caused a video game crash... that is lame even if I hated E.T.. Cause they try to pass it off as facts or truth. Personally I think it's ahead of it's time in gameplay, style, and it's a fun treasure hunt type game to me. E.T. also is a fun creature to move around. In the Well/Pit I find it unique to levitate out, and watch E.T.'s head extened. Takes a whole 3 seconds to get out the well again, big deal. I don't buy that E.T. is too difficult, there's some damn hard 2600 games out there, and when I was around 8 years old, I didn't have a hard time moving E.T. around. And to avoid falling in wells just select game 3 and noone will chase you, you can walk around without any problems. Any kid can learn that, and yeah the presentation of E.T. is "questionable", as kids may not enjoy the trial and error aspects... and yes, the game might not look appealing to them enough to take time to learn, well that's their deal. I don't see why... it IS Atari 2600, it is baised on E.T. what can you expect? PS, You were playing E.T. when it was brand new? How many youtube posts HAVE you made bashing E.T. or saying its the worst game ever...? That's what I thought, you have a grip on things, and even if you hate E.T. you won't warn people to hate it, say its worst ever etc via youtube. I think it's fine to say you hate the game, but with Swordquest and Pac-man being an also "mainstream" flops... doesn't mean they deserve endless online hating. Not that I'm gonna lose any sleep or anything about it, Just saying...
  19. Two videos on E.T. being dumb and another saying its a good game... (watch this first) be sure to watch this link... second...
  20. Here's a look at what some of the youtube heads say about E.T. Just a quick search result copied and pasted. This is probably people under 30 and well under 30, who are becoming ever more sarcastic, and wannabe cool. Yea yea freedom of speech... they can bash anything they want to. 21. I agree Atari shouldn't have resorted to this tatic in most cases but this is a special case for when a crappy clone would have been a better idea than what was released. ET really wasn't a videogame it was movie merchandise that relied on the movie hype to sell itself. It should have gone hand in hand with ET sleeping bag and ET alarm clock this was not a game to break the mold. In truth the plot of the movie is a horrible movie to base a videogame off of. If I was asked to come up with an idea that had to be finished in a short period the first one would be a pacman clone. It is easy to do and the concept works. People like Pacman and Namco still makes a ton of money of the this old game still in 2009. Some who bought it might be disapointed at a rip off but it wouldn't be called worst game ever. If not a pacman clone how about a bike racing game (like Dolphin or Stampede) where you race to the finish as they chase you and ET takes flight at the finish line. Or like Fast Food with Reeses Pieces and bad guys instead of pickles! It should have been a very basic game anyone could pick up and play without instructions. Even without the pits ET should never have been released as a Superman Adventure Swordquest Indiana Jones type game. This game had to work for the majority of the audience who are buying it and when you have millions of carts to sell it needs mass appeal. I'm glad some people enjoy ET. However this wasn't your average videogame and if it was titled JOJO the Monster most wouldn't have cared. For Atari the title came with a huge pricetage so they needed to push it hard. When customers bought into this hype they had big expectations and the programmer well he had a hell of a deadline. Something basic but playable would have worked much better and if you were short on time copy an exisiting idea that works and change it up a bit. As for the 7800 it had many problems and it failed but the 7800 versions of Atari classic arcade games was not one of the reasons it did. For the most part these were done very well and sold well to those who did own an Atari 7800. Back then each revision was one step closer to arcade quality. You might say lack of titles was a problem or the strength of the Nintendo library or lack of 3rd part support (plus other reasons I won't get into as that is another topic) and I might agree. I think the arcade licenses were a strong point. People were not sick of the classic arcade games in 1987 as most of those titles are still being released in some form or another today. The NES also had plenty of arcade titles even at launch and it has more arcade titles in total than the tiny 7800 library. Well, I didn't mean that Atari 7800 failed because of re-doing centepede/joust/pac-man etc The people that HAD NES or Computers like Commodore were being introduced to new ideas and new charecters in the games. LAST NINJA for C64, ZELDA for NES. Atari just had, Pole Position AGAIN... Not enough new faces or ideas. The system itself I think was designed in '84? Then held back to compete with NES. Since many had choosen NES. I guess the Arcade pac-man thing switched to platform and level games...by mid-80's and was just not possible in anyway that Atari 7800 could come out on top in 1987. Sure those who owned a 7800 were probably happy with those arcade redo's. But the matter is probably more about... "been there... done that... seen that". Arcade ports it's a strong point for "loyal" Atari fans but to others (who have arcade games on other systems) it probably seemed dated or they didn't wanna deny the NES which was taking over like a wildfire. To instead play another slew of Arcade games on Atari 7800. PS, Never did I mention or make assumption that people were sick of arcade games in 1987?? I dunno if that was directed tward me, but wasn't my opinion/point. But being that Atari 7800 staring of with revisions of arcade games seems like a logical idea. Worked for some... but to appeal to all the NES heads, probably would need a new space shooter idea, new pac-man idea.. new racing game, rather then just "improving" the exact same games.
  22. Overall this would have still been disapointing given all the hype and it would be just another pacman clone but it wouldn't have been called the worst game of all time by anyone. It might have even been an upgrade over the existing pacman. It would most likely be given an "ok" nod by most who owned it but wouldn't come highly recomended. In the end this would have been better and is a safe bet. You take a movie license and make an ok game that anyone can play. Nothing great, nothing awful , nothing complicated or confusing but a safe bet on a product that will be bought up by fans of the movie not die hard gamers. Today we see this often with high dollar licenses converted to videogames. Sometimes someeone will try something different and take the risk but it isn't a rush project. 2600, didn't need another pac-man rip off. I'd take the 'sucks a**' comments (sometimes those comments are honest and many not} over playing E.T. in a pac-man maze. It would need a lot of work to make it anti-pac clone. For me, if programmers did this "more often" in the 80's. It would suck...! Imagine if Atari woulda' taken the easy route "majority of times" making clones of Pac-man when they were pressured, short of time, or lazy? Talk about a boring library of games. In fact that was 7800's demise, recreating all the same arcade games that 2600/5200etc had already done well, and not creating enough games with original ideas. Just wasn't enough to compete with Rad Racer/Mario/Castlevania on NES, or even Personal Computers at this point.
  23. You do realize that these reviews were written some 12+ years ago? As such, they were some of the first reviews written about classic games. Sort of uncharted territory. I would venture that Keita would have rated some of them differently today, but maybe not. John I realize that easily. As I first found that site at least 8 years ago. However I first started reading 'all' of the reviews on that page recently. BEFORE I just would surf to a game or two I liked and read the review for it. I just felt that Keita, would sometimes rating a poorly made game high, and a good quality game low. I didn't agree with his sayings on why the games bad, just felt contrived to me. - I don't think how old the reviews matters much in rating of games. Unless he wrote these in the 80's or something. Atari gaming still plays the same to me as it did in 1999.
  24. Yeah, I call BS as well. Only way to do 27.51 is to find an exploit. I would believe 27.91. I had room for improvement on my 27.96 run. I sent a PM to Todd via AtariAge, asking how he did it... no response so far. If it was BS wouldn't Twin Galaxies know that, because they require a video of the persons game? Many Todd's scores on TG... seem unobtainable.
  25. Hmmm aren't you missing someone? Also Mister's score is 38.46, not 28.46My new second score 0:29:45
