  1. All, I am trying to get started with Oscar's book. I've completed all of the setup instructions in chapter 2, typed in the Hello World program and compiled it. When I try to run it, Jzintv comes up but on-screen all I see are a quick flash from a pink background to a green one and, finally to a black one. No text is displayed. I am running on a 2018 MacBook Pro with macos 10.14.3 I am using IntyBasic 1.4 and the latest Jzintv from 12.25.18. The SDL runtime I am using (2.2.0.9) is from here: https://www.libsdl.org/download-2.0.php If anyone can provide some assistance on what I might be doing wrong, please let me know. Thanks!
  2. I put together a paper circuit project for my Cub Scout den recently and, damn, was I loopy and nauseous after cutting all that tape to length.
  3. I was able to get the cart to update successfully on my Windows 10 x64 machine with the above instructions. Considering how long it takes to flash most ROMs, I was wondering if it had actually worked when it only took a couple of seconds to perform the update. Thankfully, it updated it as it should.
  4. Is this still available? If so, what 5200 games are you looking for?
  5. I think your best bet at this point is to get the LTO Flash and download the full ROM. It certainly will be cheaper to do so.
  6. The DC one was made mostly for 2 purposes: 1) People who wanted the mouse/keyboard experience on a console for games like Quake III and 2) for the web browser
  7. The XEGS was solely a Tramiel thing so that was not an Atari, Inc. decision. I agree with the Pokey (or Gumby) being included in the console itself. The added cost for including it to the console initially would have definitely been better in the long run than having to include it (and then charging more per cart) for carts that utilized Pokey sound (as we're all finding out 30+ years later ).
  8. Even if the add-on was more powerful than the one that was eventually released for Intellivision, I only see 'ability to convert the machine into a computer' aspect of the 7800 to be nothing more than a niche feature. The 7800 is not compatible with the 8-bit computer line and, even if the peripherals for the 8-bit machines were compatible with the 7800 add-on, it would be an incompatible platform. That said, I doubt there would have been much released for or much of a future for a divergent platform.
  9. I've actually had a few carts that either didn't work -- despite how much I cleaned it -- or stopped working altogether. So it is possible for the cart itself to be at fault.
  10. I actually had the high bid on one of the 4-color printer that I was planning on using solely for the ECS (I've contemplated getting an Aquarius but have though better of it on several occasions). Unfortunately, I was outbid on it at the last minute.
  11. What's the board the controls are wired to underneath? Also, do you have any plans on posting a step-by-step guide in case we want to build one of our own?
  12. You totally need to make this work with a driving controller in port 2.
  13. Out of curiosity, is it possible to port the XE version of Mario Bros to the 5200? This version seems closer to the arcade than the original 5200 version. Thanks!
  14. Thanks. But I'll stick with the one I built
  15. If you're serious about trying to get a limited run of these games made, you may want to consult with William Moeller of Elektronite since he's recently dealt with First Star in order to produce a limited run of Boulderdash on Intellivision. He would would have info on what specifics First Star wanted for that release and may give you an idea of what kinds of quantities would be required in order to do a 5200 run of games.
  16. <Insert obligatory link to photo album of Albert's game room here>
  17. No red cart for Miner 2049er ala the 5200? Aww...
  18. I think Willie from ArcadeUSA did something like this. He loves them microswitches!
