Soooooo Carnival, Carnival, Carnival, Carnival, Carnival, Carnival, Carnival, Sharp Shot, Chess and Beauty and the Beast? ;)

How did I miss this?!!  Ha!

Love that you have chess in there...

Can Mr. Chess counter the Cow opening, courtesy Anna Cramling?

Good question!  I'm not a strong enough player to really attempt it - i.e. not sure my playing strength would showcase the opening's strengths or weaknesses vs. just my own play.

I love Anna's channel.  She's always so positive.

  3. There were systems shipped with regular controllers and flat (i.e. non-bubble style) keypads.  I never liked those, but they are out there.  Maybe someone in the community has some spares.

You shouldn't need to attempt an inty2 -> regular controller transplant.

I think they should introduce a video segment around health and exercise.  We 2nd gen console fans are getting up there and need to stay active.

Not all (most) of us have the keyboard component so we will need you two to be our instructors.

So break out your "Jack LaLanne's Physical Conditioning" and your leg warmers and take us through the routines.

    Do it for your fans.

Since Chris claims he brings the sexy and he's the only one of the two of us that has a Keyboard Component, I'm going to leave this to him to champion.

Have you been able to run Christmas Carol on your DSi XL? I keep getting an RIP error?

It works for me.  Specifically, I'm using the ROM release -- I believe that's the one DZ has for download at his site.  My Inty ROMs are all .bin + .cfg formatted.

The .cfg file I'm using for Christmas Carol looks like this:

    [mapping]
    $0000 - $0EFF = $2100
    $0F00 - $0FFF = $4800
    $1000 - $2FFF = $5000
    $3000 - $34FF = $7100
    $3500 - $51FF = $A000
    $5200 - $91FF = $C000
    [memattr]
    $8000 - $9EFF = RAM 16

I also enjoyed the silly parts along with the meat and potatoes parts.  I just don’t like politics which you guys avoided.   I stopped listening to Retro Gaming Round-Up because they couldn’t keep the politics out.

    Thanks for that.

I also hit a similar wall with RGR.  I still dip in every so often, but when they start chatting about politics I do not want to listen.

It's kinda funny - I swear Paul and I have had a discussion along the lines of "should we do a political show?" something like 5 or 6 times because he and I have mildly debated some political/religious ideas.  We definitely knew that it had no business being in the Intellivisionaries.

How about putting in a controller in the 2nd, player 2 jack, and see if any keys on it do anything?

Yeah, I thought about doing a more complete investigative search after I had already put the console away - I was in the middle of my Extra Life Day gaming marathon and didn't want to spend more time getting it back out again.  I'll definitely get it out and do a little more with it at some point.

  8. I was playing the 5200 Chess cart some this past weekend.

My understanding is that this is a conversion from the 8-bit program, which expects a keyboard in order to enter data for certain features.  Does anyone know if the programmer who did the conversion enabled all the features to be accessed via the controller?  And if so, are there any notes regarding how to do that?  The only documentation I've been able to find is the manuals that came with the Atari 8-bit version, which don't actually address my questions.

I DID find out how to set the skill level, and I assume also how to set it so the player can play black instead of white.  But I don't know if the 5200 version will allow for under-promoting to a knight for instance when a pawn reaches the end of the board.  The manual for the 8-bit version says that relies on a "setup pieces" feature that seems to need a keyboard.

I know chess on the 5200 isn't a big concern for most.  But I'm curious...

I have got all three endings.

    1. Wear out the dragon after 5 minutes (longer on PAL)

    2. Win on easy

    3. Win on medium

Can you give me some info on how to "win" on either easy or medium?  Anytime I hit the dragon he never shows any decrease in HP.  I'm currently at level 31 with my character.  Do I need to grind until I get to some minimum before my strikes will wound the dragon?  I believe I have the final sword.  Is there some other secret I'm missing?

  10. Thanks to everyone in this very supporting community!  I finished up the 2nd of my two 12-hour days today.  It was fun and somewhat exhausting!

If anyone here wanted to donate but didn't get a chance to, it's not too late!  Any funds donated before December 31st are still counted towards my campaign.

Again, thanks everyone!  At the end of tonight's gaming, the total for my campaign was just a touch over $2000, which is awesome!!

  11. Hey everyone.  I played ToDnS for part of my live streaming today and actually got to an ending!  I thought I was going to have to grind and grind until my character had leveled up to some maximum.  But it turned out for the ending I got today that wasn't necessary:

    Spoiler

It turns out that if you just survive long enough, the dragon tires out and goes to sleep and then the game gives you this wonderful, peaceful ending where the character and the dragon go on adventures together.  I really enjoyed reading that ending.

After I got to the ending, the text mentioned that there are two other endings that are possible.  Has anyone beaten this game to see all three endings?  Is there any postings/websites/whatever detailing the endings and how to reach them?

  12. Thanks to everyone who has donated and also to everyone who stopped by the stream to check in on things!  It was a very full and fun day.  Almost 100% Intellivision gaming today.

Tomorrow will be more mixed in terms of systems.  I've been reminded that I didn't play any Carnival or Sharp Shot, so I probably ought to get some of that in - gotta give the donors what they want!  That and images of me eating Cheez-Its...

For tomorrow, I'm hoping to dig into some homebrews on Colecovision, 2600, 5200, 7800, and maybe a Genesis and/or NES game or two.

If you planned on supporting the campaign but haven't yet, please go ahead and do so!

    Thanks again everyone!

  13. Hey there Intellivision nerd-friends!  It's that time of year again, when a lot of us gaming-hobbyists run an Extra-Life day gaming marathon to raise money for Children's Hospitals.

This will be my 9th year!  As is usual, I'm pretty confident that a lot of my gaming this year will be Intellivision focused because of all the new homebrews that are coming out.

As in the last couple of years, I'm planning to do two 12-hour marathons rather than one 24-hour one -- I just can't stay up for that long and be focused like I used to.  I'll be live-streaming on my youtube channel on November 11th and 12th, most likely from 8:00 or 9:00am until 8:00 or 9:00pm EST.

Anyway, I'd be thrilled if folks would donate to my campaign.  Again, it's for Children's Hospitals, specifically the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital in my case.  My campaign page where you can enter a donation is here: https://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.participant&participantID=516833

My youtube channel where I should be streaming (barring some tech complications) is here: https://www.youtube.com/user/rickreynolds1969

Thanks to everyone in this community!
