  1. I should have posted back here yesterday, but better late then never, I guess.  We did 12 hours of gaming yesterday - all of it on the Intellivision.  I managed to play A Tale of Dragons and Swords all the way to the dragon, but I couldn't figure out where to hit him to cause any damage.  But it was a cool adventure!  We played various other games also, culminating in a marathon session of TNT Cowboy.  I didn't quite get to the end of that game, but definitely got a great start on it -- finished the first 4 quests, ending with the temple.

Anyway, we'll be at it again today for another 12 hours.  I'll probably concentrate on other consoles today.  But it would be great if folks could stop by and check out what we're up to.  Links and info in the top post.

  2. Hey there Intellivision community!  It's Extra Life charity season again, and I'm planning to do another gaming marathon to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.  I'm taking a page out of Ferg's book and splitting my gaming across two days, just because of how badly my body treated me after last year's marathon!  The days I'll be gaming are going to be December 5th and 6th, probably 14 hours on the Saturday and the other 10 hours on the Sunday - both days will probably start around 8:00am.

As per usual, I take requests, especially from people who donate!  I'll have a live stream comments section going as well.

  3. I put in an order, but then immediately got another email saying that the product is out of stock and on back-order.  I trust that isn't the case, since I purchased within 3 hours of the thread opening here on AA (????).

Hopefully that's just not a real thing and just an automation glitch in the point-of-sale software.

  4. Did Ed do a post here about it?  I completely understand his reluctance to try and serve a pretty small market, but I don't remember seeing any posts about it.

As for your request, I totally get it.  I've thought a lot about such a project as well, but I don't know if I have the chops to even attempt starting such a project.  So far, I've settled on creating an arcade quality controller that internally is wired up like a genesis controller and then using the genesis-to-inty adapter that was available for a while.  I only get 8 directions on the stick and have to use the keypad on the adapter rather than on the controller itself, but it's decent for arcade style games.  A controller like what Edladdin did for Colecovision on the Inty would be great and an insta-buy from me.  But coming up with a 16-directional joystick would be something interesting to work out.  I think the best that could be done without attempting to fabricate something completely new would be an analog stick and logic to convert the analog signals to the 16 digital signals.

Hello. They are probably interchangeable. I noticed that the console box has the APF MP1000 logo, but the pic of the console itself shows APF M1000. Mine is an M1000,  but sadly not boxed. I tried to repair some of the keypad buttons after successfully retaping the contact domes for the joystick, but I cracked the circuit board over the keypad, and wires connected to it, detached as well. I still have the other controller working (mostly), so I'm half bummed.

Hey there Judge, thanks for the reply!  I haven't come across anything to indicate that one is preferred to the other.

Need to get mine plugged in and get some games going again!

  6. I have a MAME cab and definitely spent some time working on this exact problem.  I wanted to play Intellivision (and other console) games on my arcade cab.  I eventually decided that (for me) it wasn't that great of an experience for a lot of the inty library.  The arcade ports translate decently well, but not much else.  And I think that's probably to be expected.

To give you a glimpse into the setup, here's a control panel I worked up and tried for a while.  It was an attempt at a panel that would allow for playing Atari 2600, Intellivision, and Colecovision games - note the little spinners in place for the paddle games.

In the end I just didn't find playing by pushing down on a controller from above to be satisfying.  I wanted to hold the controller in my hand and reach with my thumbs like I was used to playing.  I ended up scrapping this design when I rebuilt my cab.

  7. In this episode we review two games: Loco-Motion from Mattel Electronics, and Happy Trails from Activision. We also interview both programmers, Daniel Bass and Carol Shaw! As if that weren’t enough, we have another Team Amico interview, this time with VP of Production Jason Enos. The episode is lacking a few things though, such as Feedback, News, and our Canadian co-host, Cmart. But you will find George, and Rick is finally out of the bathroom!

  8. Hey all,

Trying to get CoolCV running on a RetrOrange PI setup.  I copied the coolcv_pi executable into place, but when I run it from the command line I get this error:

/opt/retropie/emulators/coolcv/coolcv_pi: error while loading shared libraries: libbcm_host.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I've installed what I thought was the correct version of this file in /usr/lib, /usr/local/lib, and even in the same directory as coolcv itself, but it still complains about this lib being missing.  Any suggestions?

It may run some, but not most. CoolCV is the only emulator that runs all of them. Latest Pc version has a bug though, so if it is available for Rpi, may want to use the 0.6.4 version. The Rpi version of CV should be in the 0.6.4_all download.

Thanks.  This platform didn't offer coolcv as an option - I might try installing from outside the package system.

  10. Hey all,

I've been trying to get SGM games to run under lr-blueMSX on a RetroPie system.  Searching RetroPie forums shows conflicting info as to whether this can work or not.  Some places seem to indicate it won't while others seem to show that it will.  And of course, some of these posts are outdated.  Does anyone have SGM games working in a RetroPie system under lr-blueMSX?

Another data point: this would be running on a RetrOrange PI  -- not sure if that makes a difference for this kind of thing.  Just about every other RetroPie emulator I've installed works fine on it.

    Thanks,

    Rick
