  1. I'm sorry that I'm only now getting to this thread! I hope my silence wasn't seen as anything of significance. I'm not particularly good at keeping tabs on discussions in forum software. But I do want to weigh in. To be blatantly honest (and not intending to throw Nurmix under the bus), I was on the fence about the Plimpton bit as it really could be interpreted as us taking sides in the whole "kerfuffle" as I put it. We really don't intend to do that. I viewed it as injecting a little humor into the situation. I'm sure we only got half of the story and I really do wish we could get the other half represented. But as Nurmix mentioned, we felt like it was community news that deserved some time in the show. I don't want to feel pressured to not talk about touchy topics on the show. Of course, we want to be fair in our presentation of things as well. To the degree that we veered off into gossip or bias, please know that it wasn't our intent. But thanks for calling us out a bit on it and for being polite about it.
  2. Oh, I'm not actively starting this as a project (yet). I was just thinking about it while playing Microsurgeon the other day. I only have one set for that one and they are in pretty nice condition. I know there have been posts about techniques to print overlays, and home-printed versions would be fine for me to play with and keep my originals nice. But for common carts just getting a second set makes sense.
  3. Yes, my thoughts/desires go towards the original overlays. I'd love a complete second set of orphans also, but nearly all of those games didn't really need the overlay to be playable. The motivation is really about having a set to enable game play.
  4. Has anyone pursued trying to accumulate a complete second set of overlays for the games that had them? It's a goal that's been in the back of my mind for years, but not anything I've ever pursued. The idea would be to have a set that is as pristine as possible (the "collector" set) and then a second set to actually use when playing the game. I don't feel this need with boxes or manuals - I can usually keep those in good shape even when using them semi-regularly. But we all know that the overlays can definitely show wear-and-tear when used a lot. Maybe it makes sense to pursue a second set of overlays for the top 25% of games that get a lot of gameplay, and then see where things go from there.
  5. Also just found this thread. I'm in the Pittsburgh 'burbs (Bethel Park). Would definitely love to have some kind of show close by.
  6. Hey, I'm in Pittsburgh too! I say we get something going!
  7. I'm sure someone will post a picture. I may get to that tomorrow. Mine is different from the non-gatefold in that the "Intellivision Mattel Electronics" wording is at the top of the side spine and the BurgerTime graphic-y font is below. On my non-gatefold copy, those two are reversed with BurgerTime near the top of the side panels and the words "Intellivision Mattel Electronics" at the bottom of the side panels. That's true on both sides. The gatefold only has writing on the outer spine. Nothing on the panel on the far side of the spine. Also, mine has the white plastic insert to hold the cartridge. My non-gatefold cart has a white-label, while the gatefold has a color label (yellow background, red letters). I know there are probably lots of variations on that given the number of years Intellivision Inc and then INTV Corp probably sold this game.
  8. Yep! There's a mention of this in the latest Intellivisionaries episode as well!
  9. Episode 2 is finally out! Main show page: http://www.intellivisionaries.com Download and/or subscribe here: http://www.intellivisionaries.com/website_player.html We review Astrosmash, as well as talk about some Inty news items, an interview with Mike Kennedy (SoCal Mike of Retrogaming Roundup), and more! Hope you enjoy it!
  10. I'm guessing this was on physical hardware. (?) I've never seen that kind of glitch. I found some weirdness in Night Stalker when I was playing in emulation, but it was probably due to the "abuse" I was giving it via saving and restoring state over and over again. I wrote it up just a little and provided a couple of .mpgs of what I was seeing about half-way down this page: http://www.rickandviv.net/index.php/intellivision-games-on-an-arcade-cabinet/night-stalker/
  11. I'm sure you could get ready offers for the Sears Checkers. I'd be interested *cough* *cough*...
  12. Heh, with all the back and forth we had during the beta testing period mentioning your game was almost a given! Your story with Carol really gives me hope about writing a game myself. We're discussing whether to do a whole episode dedicated to the home-brew community and how that has worked or whether or not home-brew topics deserve a recurring segment in the show. There's so many directions we could take! We'd love to look all professional and planned out, but we may end up just going with what seems like a good idea and changing it up as we go.
  13. Thanks to the RGR guys for giving us some nice coverage in their September episode!
  14. Ah that is the question. I think our original vision is for something close to monthly. Personally, I love making the show (I can talk about Intellivision any day, all day) and I'm hoping that once we get into a rhythm of how it gets made that we can get shows out a little more often than monthly. But we'll see. Most of the burden of the show falls on Nurmix as he does all the sound mixing, editing, etc. So it really comes down to his time.
  15. That's really great to hear! I'm glad you're discovering this classic system from my youth.
  16. In all seriousness, thanks for the feedback! After listening to the episode again, I do think we spent too much time discussing the Coleco controller. This isn't a Colecovision podcast! And we also aren't really trying to make the tone one of "the Intellivision was great and everything else stunk!" But I think it's natural to end up doing some comparisons. The heyday of the Intellivision had it up against the Atari VCS, the Colecovision, the Vectrex, Atari 5200, and the Odyssey 2 (plus some other also-rans (??) that didn't have the same kind of exposure and marketshare). Later of course, they ended up in the same market as the NES, SMS, and Atari 7800, just because the system was available on the fringe for so long. I imagine there will be more comparisons being made as we go forward.
  17. I wasn't aware of that site before. My new login is waiting for approval.
  18. The "A, B" song (as someone on another forum called it) is "Compare This!" by Confusium. It's available on the Intellivision in HiFi CD that I believe is still available at Keith Robinson's site: http://www.intellivisionlives.com/store/
  19. Thanks for the kind words. I can't speak for Nurmix (he does the final edits/mix on the podcast), but I believe using that song was a one-time fun thing to include. He may want to include other songs to break up all the talking in the future.
  20. Yep the opening theme and closing theme are originals by Paul. I find them catchy also - I keep finding myself humming the opening tune.
  21. Thanks for the kind words! We're in the planning stages of episode 2 right now.
  22. The Intellivision has a podcast! Episode 1 of the Intellivisionaries podcast is finally ready. Nurmix, Burgertime and I have been working on getting this podcast started for a few months now. Our website: http://www.intellivisionaries.com Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/intypodcast Twitter: @intypodcast We'd love it if you'd give it a listen!
  23. Looking forward to this release - I've played with a beta on and off for a while now.
  24. CMart - should the Roulette memory be accurate, you know I'm interested in some kind of deal.
