I'm actually on the lookout for a Sears Inty. Where are you seeing a few up for sale? There's only one on ebay currently, and I think it's slightly overpriced. I don't see any currently on gamegavel.com Rick

Cleanest output on an inty?
Rick Reynolds replied to Rick Reynolds's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Agreed about the Sears model. It's been my go to unit for playing on hardware. I like that I can replace the controllers should they start going bad (I've stocked up on 3 or 4 sets) AND that those controllers match the regular inty style. I never got used to the inty 2 style controllers at all. I'm thinking strongly of just getting another working, non-modified Sears model and going with that. -
Cleanest output on an inty?
Rick Reynolds replied to Rick Reynolds's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
And while I'm on the topic of picking up another unit, what's with the current prices on ebay? People seem to be asking near $100 on average - some a good deal above $100. I thought intys were common enough that they would go for $50-ish depending on condition. -
What's everyone's preference for getting the best quality picture and sound out of an inty unit? A couple of years ago I had a couple of my units modded with the AV mod, then put them away because I tend to play mostly via emulation. I've been playing more on hardware lately and have noticed the less-than-stellar color output that others have written about, as well as some shadow-like ghosting on one unit. I'm thinking of working on some gameplay videos (it's the popular thing to do!) and I'm either going to have to use emulation or get better hardware (none of my other intys are working at this point). So I'm guessing the best output is just the standard output with one of those RCA-to-cable-barrel connectors on the end. But is that right? And was there any particular inty that had better color output? Did the Intellivision II benefit from better video chips or anything? How about any of the other variants (Sylvania, INTV III, Super Pro, Tandyvision)? And then on another topic, what's the best way to digitally capture video from an inty unit these days? I have a cool little USB capture thing for my Mac (http://www.elgato.com/video/video-capture) but it takes AV inputs (or S-video) that are giving me funky colors on my current units. Thanks!

Sega Adapter for Intellivision!
Rick Reynolds replied to boxpressed's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Wow, that's really cool! I've been wondering about a market for alternate controllers for the Intellivision. I'm not a hardware guy, so I know I couldn't design anything. But this sounds like a very cool way of doing it - have the arcade-y controls handled by a modern controller with a pass-through for the keypad from the original. Very neat stuff! -
Wow, thanks for that. I'm still very new around here and I really appreciate that anyone would recognize me at all. Maybe that will be a defining characteristic for me - a boring forum name! I would definitely keep my Lupin avatar - I spent so many hours playing Lock -n- Chase as a pre-teen/early teen. Plus the Inty graphic of him looks so good; it really invokes the old-school video game graphics feeling, even if you don't know what game or system the character is from.

The story behind mine is... oh nevermind. Completely non-creative and dull. I've actually been giving thought to creating a new moniker for myself on gaming sites because of a project I'm working on. It might be fun to be known by a handle instead of my regular name.

Sears controller vs. Intv2 controller
Rick Reynolds replied to grips03's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Agreed. My primary INTY when I'm playing on hardware is a Sears model for these exact reasons. -
Sorry to drop out of the thread that I started for a couple of days! Things have been a bit hectic on the homefront. I do have 2 dups: Space Battle (box, cart, manual, 1 overlay) and LVP&BJ (box, cart, manual, 0 overlays).

Some months back I posted about wanting to get all the Sears games. Some kind folks hooked me up with some of their extras and I have about half of the Sears games CIB at this point. Then I ran out of money and had to take a break. Well, I think I might be ready to try for some more. Anyone have any of these titles to spare that they'd be willing to sell? I don't have much in the way of anything to trade, as I ditched nearly all of my extras years ago. I'm looking for Sears versions of these titles: Astrosmash Backgammon Basketball Bowling Boxing Checkers Frog Bog Hockey Roulette Soccer Space Armada Space Hawk Sub Hunt Tennis PM me if you'd like to sell me any of those. Thanks! Rick

Finally! (CMart's latest cool pickup)
Rick Reynolds replied to cmart604's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Impressive! That's a piece that I've always considered outside the bounds of what I'll be able to collect. Really nice. -
North & South on the Intellivision

Link to the game on other platforms? I've never heard of it. -
INTV Games Other than Spiker Sold in Baggies?
Rick Reynolds replied to boxpressed's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Here's a link to my bagged version of Spiker that I *think* is original and not after-the-fact. I'm not 100% sure about that, but it doesn't look overly homemade when you look at the seams and such up close. http://www.rickandviv.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/DSCN0735.jpg -
How compatible with the INTY is this really?
Rick Reynolds replied to Certifiable's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I'm sure someone more hardware savvy than I will chime in, but I think I can definitely say that that joystick will NOT work in any way with an Intellivision. You could plug it into the Intellivision 2 or Sears model, but the signals from the INTY controller are very different than those from the Atari/C64/etc. controllers. -
What is 'TRON: Complete'?
Rick Reynolds replied to bikeguychicago's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Count me in as well. -
We watched the original trilogy here (or as we call it in this house "the Star Wars trilogy" - the prequels don't exist in my universe). The kids and I had a pretty good time. We watched the "Despecialized Editions" in HD. Pretty good overall, there were definite spots that still need to be cleaned up. ( http://originaltrilo...ut/topic/12713/ for anyone who wants a little more context on that)

The writer interviewed me for this article (as well as William Moeller obviously - anyone else?). It was a fun read. http://venturebeat.com/2013/04/12/consoles-that-wont-die-intellivision/view-all/

Sooo I just found a World Series MLB Baseball....
Rick Reynolds replied to VicViper's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Wow, I'd say so. I don't know what they go for these days (I completed my 125 collection around 9 or so years ago), but I'm sure they go for something in the "semi-rare" price range. -
Nope, no value judgement was intended. I'm not very good at berzerk, but it's a pretty fun game. The lack of walls does seem more like Robotron. I'm excited for any new game on my beloved inty!
-
The screenshot seems more like Berzerk to me, minus the maze walls of course.

The 1337 Lounge Intellivision after party
Rick Reynolds replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I think it's gone - they indicated in chat that they weren't going to have a podcast of it available. -
The 1337 Lounge Intellivision after party
Rick Reynolds replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
They talked around the homebrew stuff just a bit. I was hoping to get one of them to praise the homebrew scene for innovation. But they talked mostly about the legal problems they run into if they encourage/support homebrew. I understand that concern, but definitely don't understand the issues at play there. -

I was in as well. I was one who asked if they had any opinions of the homebrew scene. -
Father Hacks 'Donkey Kong' to Let Daughter Play as Girl
Rick Reynolds replied to mojotv67's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Yeah, that's very cool. I'm not much up on NES hacking and tools. If anyone can do this patch and create the rom, I'd be interested in getting more info on how to do it. -
Holy cow, I just found this thread! I'm a big text adventure (Interactive Fiction) fan. The idea of porting the Z-machine to the INTV is interesting, but I wonder if it is possible (?). Has anyone looked seriously at what that would entail? Is there enough space on an INTV for the Z-machine and a game? I know some of Infocom's games were ported to the TI-99, so that's one estimate of how small they could get. If that's even possible, I'd be seriously interested in helping with that project. I've worked on the source for Frotz in the past. I would be thrilled to play any text games on the INTV, at any rate. On a different front, I'm almost part of the "35 club" for Infocom games (to extrapolate from the 125-club a bit here). I'm only 4 CIB games away at this point. I've bought all the different collections in the past (Lost Treasures 1 & 2, the themed collections, Masterpieces), but then I decided to start collecting the individual boxed versions as well so that I would have all the original feelies.
