  1. I'm not a collector who cares much about "complete in box". Most of the stuff I get is without box, and I don't care to store boxes. Last year I picked up an Olympian 2600 (a late-entry pong system) that was in the box. I have no interest in keeping the box, but I also don't like the idea of throwing something like this away.

You can see it isn't exactly pristine. But you can have it if you cover my shipping costs.

I'm in the same mindset about this Packri Monster handheld box.

    Again, a little worn.

You can PM me here on AtariAge, but I confess that I don't see messages there in a very timely fashion. To be sure I see it, email is probably safer - [email protected]

Let me know if you're interested. They're just empty boxes. But someone out there might be interested in them.

  2. Er, it's BEEN up for over a week...

Sorry - a little miscommunication between Paul and me about who was going to post a new thread about it.

Anyway, if you've been under a non-podcasting rock and haven't heard it yet, it's in the Intellivisionaries feed, linked on the website, etc.

    http://intellivisionaries.com

Feel free to comment here about the ep. I know there has already been a good deal of discussion about Intellivision Entertainment and the new console news in other threads already.

  3.

For the past several weeks a lot of my time has been taken up with the Intellivision Entertainment project (and my other "real job", of course). I intend to keep doing the podcast, but I suppose at some point there just won't be enough time to do it. And I wouldn't want people to start thinking I'm just a "spokes-hole" for the new console, and not the wise-cracking Inty fan I am. And that may mean I'd have to step away and perhaps let the others continue with the show?

No, no, no. You can't walk away from the podcast. You're the glue that binds it all together, wise-cracking and all. I don't see how you could come off as a shill for the new enterprise if you keep the format as it is right now.

You want to talk some Intellivision news? The news for the '79 – 1979 platform. Rick already leads the way in this segment. You just continue in your present role and be available as a resource for inside information and the occasional slip about something you shouldn't have revealed… which also gets by you during the editing process.

The interviews, deep dives into games, and the rest can all remain the way they are, and your new role at Intellivision Entertainment wouldn't be a factor. C'mon, we need you!

Certainly the show won't stop due to this development. If Paul has to step aside or drop back to a lesser role, the show would continue on with me taking over production duties. I'm no Paul when it comes to that, but I can at least get a show put together when that needs to happen.

I agree with the sentiments expressed above, however. Paul brings something unique and pretty great to the show. Regardless of how things work out moving forward, we'll do all we can to keep him involved as much as his schedule will allow.

And I'm just posting a quick comment here. Paul and I haven't discussed anything concrete in this area.

  4. Hey Tempest,

I actually wrote a little tool years ago to dump these files out into a more readable format. It looks to me like you're missing some spaces right after the MTE Test cart entry.

  5. Finally got to do just a little testing with mine. It's great!

You may have heard me talking on podcast(s) about the arcade stick I created that can be either an Atari or Genesis controller. The Genesis compatibility feature was in anticipation of this adapter. It's really great playing arcade ports and/or arcade style games with a true arcade joystick on real Inty hardware!

I only tried a couple of games so far: Ms Pacman and Boulder Dash -- so no real putting the keypad through any paces yet. But I saw no issues at all. Just great control. No strange sounds or anything like that either.

  6. So glad I found this podcast last year, I've been playing catch up with older episodes while listening to the new ones as they are released. So sad about Keith's passing last year, you guys have done such a service for us Intellivision fans in preserving his voice and his legacy.

I was an original Intellivision owner growing up, I remember when got the Master Component with Poker and Blackjack and Football. So many great memories with me and my brother as we saved allowances and paper route money to buy coveted releases like Night Stalker, AD&D and Astrosmash. Or how my mom saved up Kool Aid proof of purchases to send in and get Kool Aid Man for free .

My original Intellivision was tossed when my mom died and my dad moved, but I've since built back up my collection and introduced it to my own kids. A lot of the games I purchased in the same condition as I remember owning them, right down to the KB clearance stickers on the box.

So as I've reintroduced myself to the world of Intellivision (and ColecoVision and Atari 2600/5200), I want to thank you guys for doing what yourey doing and allowing us to go on the journey through nostalgia. It's been so much fun and I hope it continues on for a while.

On a side note, there's a game convention near me called Too Many Games. You guys should consider making an appearance there. At least for Rick, since it's just a few hour drive for him.

    Thanks again for the podcast!

    Thanks for the kinds words!

I didn't know Too Many Games was here in PA. I'll have to give that serious consideration next year. My trips are all booked for this year - only so many vacation days and trip funds per year...

  7. Hey KylJoy, I'm using that same RGB board. I emailed Fred who made the board last year to get clarification on those outputs. They should be:

    R, G, B - Red, Blue, Green signals

S - Sync (I believe this is composite sync, but I'm new to this stuff too and I might not be using that term correctly)

V - 3.3V line - some HDMI converters require an "enable" pin to go into RGB mode

    G - Ground

I have an RGB monitor that takes H and V sync on two inputs. I connect the S output of this board to both of them and I can get a picture. The board works like that for me, but the colors seem off. Fred claims that the colors are correct, pointed me to a specific palette that he used, etc. But I'm still looking around for another RGB board that I can try.

    Hope that helps.

  8. Here are some of my 2018 Intellivision goals.

Create some videos on Intellivision gaming topics for the Intellivisionaries youtube channel

    1. how to configure and run jzintv

    2. playing Intellivision games on retropie systems, including my Raspiboy

    3. playing Intellivision games on a MAME cab

    Finally get into Inty programming.

Find a couple more Intellivision flashback systems for cheap(-ish) so I can get some more spare controllers.

See if I can build a custom Vectron controller with a spinner.

    Get to PRGE this year.

Get more than 6 episodes of Intellivisionaries out!

  9. In this episode we review the Mattel Electronics Intellivoice game TRON Solar Sailer by the late Keith Robinson. We interview former Blue Sky Ranger Mark Urbaniec about his involvement with the game, and his memories of working with Keith. There’s a listener interview with Steve Craft and his brother Jay. There’s a lot of non-Christmas talk by George, and numerous clips from Keith Robinson (sourced from previously released and unreleased material) about TRON Solar Sailer. And of course we have Feedback, News and even a few Easter Eggs. This is also our longest episode ever, clocking in at just over 7 hours!

  10.

5200 Masterplay does not have built in keypad, see picture.

It would raise price by $10-15 in order to have both. I won't be making two models. So price increase would effect everyone. Is that what people want?

I was thinking of the masterplay clone I have, I guess. It has the numeric buttons on it.

What I was saying about a Y-cable was that if you removed the input port to connect an inty controller, I could always still attach my own via a Y-cable regardless of the design decisions you're making. E.g., I connect a regular colecovision controller and a modified NES controller via a Y-cable to play games all the time. If you go with a design that doesn't include the pass through for a real controller, I can work around that.

That said, I'm fine either way. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the keypad and the port together. But I'm ok if you decide the other way also.

  11. Hey there,

I've been messing around with adding different systems to a raspberry pi RetroPie setup.

I believe I have a decent understanding of the conceptual model used by libretro whereby physical controllers are mapped to a virtual RetroPad, which is then setup to send proper inputs to the system emulator.

physical controller --> RetroPad --> emulator core

There seems to be a ton written on handling the left side of this diagram: how to map an unknown controller, how to reset a given controller that is mapped incorrectly, etc., etc. But not so much (that I've found) on the right side.

Here's what I want to do. I'm trying to make my setup of the Odyssey2 emulator a bit better by mapping a control on my PS3 controller that isn't used by the O2 (lots of choices) to send a keyboard "1" to the system. Many games start by asking "SELECT GAME", and "1" is a good default for that question. I have tried to setup the system so that when I hit START, it sends "1".

So conceptually, I'm wanting to map a control on the RetroPad to the emulator core. I.e. when "START" is hit on the RetroPad, send "1" to the videopac/odyssey2. I can then use all the howtos all over the internet to map a control on my physical controller to the RetroPad's start button.

But so help me, I can't get this back-end configuration working.

I want this to be a core-wide setting that only affects the videopac/odyssey2, and I want it not to be physical-controller-specific. Reading in lots of places made me think that adding this line:

    input_player1_start = "num1"

to /opt/retropie/configs/videopac/retroarch.cfg would do the trick. But that doesn't seem to change anything. I know that the videopac core can read a keyboard that is connected - if I connect a keyboard and hit "1" at the opening screen, I can move into the game and play with the controller.

I'm wondering if my understanding of the system is a bit off. Is it just not possible to map controls from a controller and from a keyboard to the same RetroPad set of definitions? Does RetroArch write logging anywhere that I can check?

  12. Thanks to all who donated! I really appreciate it.

As for Cmart's challenge for $1000, it's still a fine goal - you can donate to an extra life campaign any time during the calendar year, donations don't have to be made on or before the event itself. I was so pleased to see the total hit $800 this morning! That's great in and of itself. But if you wanted to donate and haven't yet, don't feel like you've missed the opportunity to join in.
