  1. clean the area alot. then reflow the points. maybe cut a piece of leed off an new component or some copper wire and reflow that into the pool. not enough to reflow onto. use a small piece of insulated wire and jump the component to another point on the board. make sure to inspect the whole board for other bad solder joints, poor joints, etc.
  2. be clean. dont have copious solder on your tip. dont want it to fly around. make sure your tip is clean and tinned. look the whole board over for any solder joints that look bad. wiggle the ports to look for loose connections. wiggle power. if you have to flow any port joints than do all of that port. if one could move wiggle they all will. thats stress. clean tip. maybe even clean the board. sometimes older solder will have a varnishy covering. prolly burn off when reflow. just reflow the solder. maybe add a TINY bit if it looks like they used too little. dont leave your iron plugged in any longer that you use it. mess up alot of irons and tips by leaving them plugged in durring breaks. dont try the same spot many times. reclean. wait. let it cool. clean it more. let it cool. be patient. keep your metal rings, jewely, screwdriver, etc away from the board. ground yourself on a metal water pipe or something by touching it... dont shuffle on carpet... dont play with your hair on a dry day.. touch the irons tip to the lead more than just the joint. and let us know how it goes..
  3. thanks, slowcoder! if i can get microusb port covers for cell phones would be great. hard to get things bulk from china and it takes FOREVER!

  6. maybe someone should lock the thread? ive never been good at looking at the date of the first and last post, then figuring out if it would still be relevant to post. this is a perfect example. there is no reason for anyone to be posting in here. boooo....
  7. this is very important to me. 74 views and only 1 bite. atariage members... lots of you have a harmony cart. please help a fellow atarian! one dollar is a pretty easy donation, AND you'll get something for it. besides, you dont want dust in your harmony cart, do you?
  8. horay! you know that mini-usb port on the harmony cart? the one that is rarely used and points up to collect dust? well, now there are little rubber plugs made just for miniusb ports. Open ports on your phone or other electronics just invite dust, moisture, and debris inside. These tiny soft rubber plugs sell on ebay for more $. Since there is a wholesale bag sitting here they can be sold to atariage members pretty darn cheap! Also, these really need to move. so you will be helping a fellow member. if you want more than one, or would also be interested in usb port covers, please PM me. Price is $1 including shipping. It would be helpful to know what you think of this product!
  9. wow. just the pics you uploaded were great for looking at. thanks for taking the time to list them!!
  10. my main interest was trying to find more info to decode the audio output from the compumate. it saves its music, graphic, and basic programming data as audio. the goal is to be able to write basic programs on the computer and save them as audio which can be shared and ran on other people's compumate. thats how i stubles across this. if anyone has any information about this sort of data to audio and back stuff please PM me.
  11. i got my compumate recently. im more of a user than a collector. would you be interested in it? i was thinking of framing it. either way the compumate isnt going back in it. pm me! nice to meet ya! if anyone else wants my compumate box get a hold of me.!!
  12. ide give to this cart to anyone who writes a decent prog for the 'basic programming' cart or the compumate. simple yes, i know. still, if you write something of any value appreciate will be shown in the form of video games...
  13. does anyone have a clue how something like this may have worked. boy wouldnt that be a cool function for a future bin loading cart !!! is a 'game genie' possible for current developers? that pgp-1 sure looks cooool! wonder007, have you taken any pictures of the one you have? do you have anything you can scan in for it? (maybe i shoulda used the search function?) great thread!
  14. greeed. most people would rather have nothing then just enough. you see plenty of store fronts sit empty in towns that desperately need business. its because they want to rent them for too much money. they would rather loose money to taxes and let the place fall apart than accept less than they THINK its worth. even if the place sits vacant forever. even if they are hungry and poor. they would rather loose it to the tax man than rent it cheap.. my father in law has a house he rents out. he wants $1000 a month for it. my friend offered him $600 a month CASH , with several months up front. 2 years ago. my in law would not accept the deal. he said he wanted $1000/mo. well, that was two years ago. no one has rented the place since. now, from lack of maintainance pipes have frozen, grass and weeds have taken over. things that would be ok if someone was living there are now falling apart. my friend didnt care about having to fix and maintain small things. my F.I.L. hasnt been able to do all the work cause we live too far away. so which would have been better. $600/mo for 2 years, or $0, plus the place is falling apart. I tried to point this out to him and he said "im not giving this place away for free. i want $1000/mo. its a nice house. If i cant get $1000/mo ide rather it just sit here." so there you have it. we cant pay the mortgage on the house we live in. we are gonna get kicked out, lose all the mortgage payments weve made, and have to move back into the rental. which needs alot of work now from sitting vacant. probably gonna lose alot of belonging, as they wont all fit in rental house. also will lose shop, and acres of property. all because he didnt want to rent the house for $400 less a month than he was asking. oh, btw, he has to make mortgage payments on the rental as well, and has been making them for the last 2 years. soooo, greed.. stupidity?? i would rather give something away than let it goto waste. i am in the minority.
  15. ahh common. yes, the basic programming cart is VERY limited. we've got to be able to do just a bit more than that. ive seen like 4 "programs" written for the basic cart. only about 4 written for the compumate as well. kinda suprising. at least the basic cart has a graphics screen. the compumate does not have any commands for affecting any sort of graphics in basic. it would be cool to write something simple that displays someones name or business name for an atari display. something better than just printing the name over and over again with no change. like the name being printed more twards the left/right everytime. or alternate "atari 2600" and randomly interject "-=00000=-" "player0ne" "-=00000=- it may be beyond the scope of some people to fully master any programming, certainly myself. With some small effort it should be possible to understand the full range of something soo very limited. right? would there be any "easter egg" or hidden thing in the basic cart? why not? being that is not a game cart, would studying the bin or decoded file be much different than most atari2600 games? since games are apparently "hacked" is it possible to modify the 'basic programming' cart? does anyone know what version of basic would be the simplest. perhaps the closest to either of the 2600 basic languages? looking over the book "basic computer games" ive not seen any simple enough. 'russian roulete' MAY convert to compumate basic. oops wrong thread. someday you'll see an atari in the background of some retro-scifi movie with a basic cart doing something cool looking, oohh.. theres a retro-scifi movie plot brewing.. doesnt 'basic programming' deserve as much attention as any other atari 2600 game? can anyone think of any other non-game cart? ???
  16. still havent seen anyone write another program for this thing.....
  17. so compumate has this very limited basic programming environment. is there anyone on atariage who would be capible of helping to write some software for it, this is my first attempt at learning a programming language. its kinda hard to find printed books on a 30 year (or older) programming tool. Are you good at basic programming? if you can write a decent program for the compumate or the basic programming cart , i will make a cash donation to you. or i can send you my unwanted atari 2600 games as payment for your help!! It would be really cool for someone to write new software for the compumate. .. any ideas? i have typed up all the commands and will publish them here soon.. i know compumate is dumb. it is. there must be a few hundred sold recently. any compumate owner is gonna download and run any software than can be found. so making new software shouldnt be a waste of time. can anyone help me figure out how to reverse engineer other simple BASIC software so it can be run on the compumate?
  18. can you help me learn some BASIC programming skills to use on the compumate??

Last year I used an old book from the early '80s to learn some basic programming using the compumate. It worked well until my compumate's keyboard died.

yea, im scouring for one. sure ive passed on 100s at flea markets for years. now they are all gone. hopefully some of the games from "basic computer games" will convert.

  19. i just fixed another atari with cracked solder points on the joystick port. i couldnt even see the cracks. after reflowing they work fine on a side note. i got a new set of ics for my other dead ataris. got the game working, the screen looks crap. like faded behind static. i need to figure out what caps are common to replace, or try replacing the other 2 ics. the repair manuals are hard to read. im not great at electronics. I know how to fix mechanical things well.
