  1. endowed? the cable is too long? once good thing to do would be to use a multimeter and make sure both leads make it from inside to the case to the corresponding connection on the audio jack. Also, clean the cart connection really good like scraping with a wooden toothpick or fiberglass pen.
  2. Ide buy a broken one.. I can test and repair broken leads and hardware. not good with testing ICs though
  3. damn that is a cool gen mod. you spoon IS TOO BIIIGG!!
  4. wow. no one will trade this cart for an atari cart. ??? guess we all love our atari's, eh? 61 views right now.
  5. i just got my compumate today. it doesnt seem to work on my modded FB2. it was sold as tested good. hopefully it will fire up the ol' 2600. cant wait.. what a cool looking thing i want to make a cart a joystick passthru for it, so i dont ever have to unplug it.
  6. all you really need to do is reflow the solder joint. its not like you have to desolder and remove the part. make sure your soldering iron is clean, tinned, and hot. just make sure the area is clean-ish. then touch your soldering iron to each individual solder pad on the back of the board. holt it there untill the solder melts and looks fresh, then pull away. Try to ensure the soldering iron is actually touching the leg of the joystick port connector and the solder pad at the same time. Do each connector individually. make sure to do both ports as they are the same age. check the area where the port's plasitc housing is attached and make sure (IF) glued that it is still that way. or at least not wiggly. Use superglue (I like hot glue guns) or something to re-affix it if you need to. Also, while inside, check the solder points on the power supply, and check the housing for it as well. look over the back of the board for any other cracked solder joints. now is a good time to find them. it takes longer to gather tool and take apart the box than to re-flow all the points.
  7. i musta been thinking about the 5200 or some other system then. not like i had one, just read about um. by that note I would liek to have a 7800.. that sounds awesome. does that mean that a 7800 cart port could be used as a part for a FB2 mod? since a 2600 cart would fit into it?
  8. joust is waaayyy better for the 7800. i got an atari tattoo one night while playing joust on an atari. years later got all nostagic and decided to get an atari to play joust, the atari i had as a kid was a 2600, so thats what i got. when i stuck joust in it.. i was suprised how crappy the graphics were on the 2600 version. i dont mind soo much. though you can get the adapter to play 2600 games on the 7800, not the other way. i would suggest the 7800, for those two reasons.
  9. any luck with the sms yet? following voltage and reflowing solder joints is about as far as i car get sometimes, but it works..
  10. dont just "buy an new one" thats such an american thing to say. how wasteful? that user probably buys a new car everytime his needs fixed. ide love to see that guys bills..
  11. overvoltage or cracked solder joints. open up, clean, reflow any solder joints, check power supply output..
  12. i was just given a copy of the nintedo 64 game True Golf Classics: Waialae Country Club which i would like to trade even for any atari 2600 cart that i dont allready have. the cart is actually rather heavy, so it should ship for the same price or more than the atari cart. if you have more than 1 atari cart to spare that would be great also. the contacts inside the cart look clean enough, though i have no way of testing this cart. please PM me if interested. ebay would be a waste of this cart. i would also be willing to trade for anything atari related. though i cant spend any extra money on shipping right now. broken atari stuff would be fine as well. i am looking for any 2600 cart, good or bad a broken compumate a broken portfolio broken controllers plug and play atari games, preferably the paddle wheel manuals broken 2600 systems broken flashbacks i probably have other stuff that may interested you if you want to liven the deal. a clean 1 cart for 1 cart trade would be great though. due to shipping costs i have to keep this offer in the USA. thank you for reading this..
  13. wow. thats pretty cool. you would not be able to accept the low offer that a poor guy like me could afford... though thank you for posting the great pics..
  14. i have a compumate on the way. and i just ordered a cx78 joypad controller. so far my fav atari item is my FB2..
  15. i repaired my GFs sega with this same problem. i opened it up and noticed VERY fine cracks in the solder on some of the solder points where there joysticks plugged in. so i reflowed the solder with my iron. put the system back together and SOME of the buttons worked. so i opened it back up and reflowed ALL the solder pads and it workes perfect now. so maybe while you CAN see some of the fine fine cracks you CANT see some of them. always reflow any solder points in question. anyone having trouble with a port should reflow all pads. just my determination. im working on my 2600 repair skills. so any other advice would be great. i had a 2600 stop working. reflowed a capacitor solder pad, now it works fine. lemme know how it works. i used the cheapest solder iron.
  16. i run my flashback2 on a 9v battery. but if i use a cart or my harmony cart in the cart mod it wont work. with just the built in games the low 9v battery will run it for a LONG time. but the cart port wears out the battery QUICK. it obviously uses more power. i would assume the 2600 is the same way. it will use more power than the 9v battery likes to output. so heres the fix. use a 12v battery. you could use the smallest 12v lead acid gel sealed battery available. either from a powerwheels, or from a battery store. then you just need to punch some numbers into ohms law to determine what resistor to use. the 2600 uses like 350ma of power, and you need to waste like 3 volts. not sure what resistor you would need, but since the 2600 has a regulator in it.. it doesnt have to be perfect. if someone does the math please post the answer here. you can get the resistor online or at radio shack. i run my flashback2 with a cart AND a 3.5 inch lcd screen on a 12volt 500ma wall wart with no resistor. i think the consumption reduces the voltage just enough, and the lcd screen is 12v anyway. so be pretty open minded about the power. im glad someone posted about this.
  17. in othello the difficulty switches allow you to pre-place playing pieces. can only play game is both switches are in proper position.
  18. yea. and after ebay and paypal took probably %22 of the total cost including shipping... well. the seller didnt get what he should have. good to see other copies exist. better chance they will get "ripped" shame atariage members couldnt make a group "pitch in what you can" purchase, then let atariage "rip" the file and you just get to DL the file for your $1 contribution. then atariage could keep the original for safekeeping. and while you only had to pitch in a few buck everyone would have access to the file. maybe even a copied cassette with copied insert. but of course saying atariage or something.
  19. ebay would have been the "fairest" way to go. then at least both the customer AND edintv would have been screwed. ebay and paypal take soo much money. next time maybe he should ask 3x what he thinks the highest bid should be, and just wait a week or so till someone pays for it.. seemed like he was being nice trying to keep it amongst atariage members. they can update the forum, make and sell carts, ect. how hard would a simple unregulated bidding system be. not something that plays middleman or attempts to get a cut. not something that is too strict. a nice quiet and discrete way to auction of just this kind of item on atariage. heck, maybe there allready is a way to do that here. dont send edintv to gamegavel. what, so he can register at some OTHER website? registering name and password and address at a million different websites is annoying, unsafe, and a damn waste of time.. thanks for letting us get a look at your tape edintv. if you ever open yours please scan the pictures or take really good pics of it.
  20. i have had good help from edintv. we are all just jelous because he is PITTFALL HARRY digging though the ruins of warehouses is search of rare atari treasure. lets see how generous the winning buyer is. he will get his songmate tape in a few weeks. can we expect to see him post the ripped wav file of the tape? several atariage members have compumates, so that file would be an huge asset to the community. also, if he doesnt "rip" it the tape will decompose and the file will be lost forever. edintv doesnt want to rip it. cant blame him. thats like making a mold/cast of your own golden cow. its a sacrilege. Seriously, i picture edintv dodging large rats and scorpions and birds dropping sh*t on him. i think you should get a whip and wide brimmed hat.. dude, edintv, you need to do some PITFALL HARRY cosplay, dress up like him and take pictures. you ARE the treasure hunter.. untill some american atariage member goes out west and tries to dig up the atari dump site.... someone make some new software for the compumate. you could probably sell it..
  21. will you be able to print them in that semi-gloss look that labels have? maybe you should modify the image so it clearly states the label is reprinted. doubt that would matter much, yet they are collector items. it would be nice to have new labels on favorite games.
  22. well. isnt the atarivox proprietory? yet it still takes software. and i saw people here talking about a speak and say rom for the 2600. so maybe someone could make another atarivox like piece of hardware, except publish the schematic online so anyone can make one. if there is a custom IC then publish the info for it. maybe sell the IC raw for DIY. Someone PLEASE correct me if wrong. It would be great to find out the atarivox is open source. Granted that would not benefit those who put into it such hard work. though, linux is free and much better than windows. and you know such great software much require alot of work. still, when they start selling the atarivox again im ordering a one and a melody board with speak and say
  23. someone mentioned getting replacement stickers? does atariage print new stickers for folks? Wouldnt it be cool to have a new sticker on your favorite cart. especially if you (or someone else) had to pull the screw out to properly clean the cart. (you can do a great job with a fiberglass pen IF you take the cart apart) I wouldnt care it if said "reprint" or atariage.com on it somewhere small. Like a member said, i could die and someone thing it is a perfect label cart. but on a R1-R3 or something a clean label is gonna isnt gonna net you alot more money. it would just be so that my copy of reactor looked as good as the game is to play. im gonna go email someone here now. I want some reprinted labels. You could put them on other things. the harmony cart is great. If atariage will make me a melody cart with teleterm2600 on it a conversation will ensue between the two. Wouldnt it be great though if the harmony cart came with a few extra labels or stickers. Everyone here is soo proud of their Harmony. You would see my sticker stuck to the back of the cart, so it was two sided.
