Well as an Australian we're fairly used to wildlife that's dangerous. Although waking up to the cat paralyzed after being bitten by a snake isn't exactly all that fun. Poor fella couldn't move his back legs and had to go to the vet pronto. During receiving antivenom he had a reaction and went into cardiac arrest. They had to bring him back with a shot of adrenaline and start the antivenom process again. He will be in there overnight if all goes well. Might be time for a snake handler to come find the bastard that got him.

The thing about snakes is although we have some the most venomous in Australia. When it comes to humans they usually slither away and hide. They feel the vibration through the ground from a human or large animals feet. Dogs and cats on the other hand, sneak and stalk prey silently. So they're more likely to be bitten as the snake doesn't hear them coming.
Browns are common across eastern states of Australia and they're second most venomous in the world. So my poor little buddy got a decent dose of toxic venom
The part that sucks is waiting till tomorrow as i can't sleep knowing he's at the VET and i wont know till the morning if his ok.

Don't get me wrong, MUCH respect and fear for snakes, don't have many dangerous ones here for some reason, small copperheads, but I grew up seeing them daily in North Florida, rattlers, moccasins, coral snakes, really scary stuff.
As an experienced invertebrate keeper, the funnel web down there is what gives me the worst heebie-jeebies, tho I have long ago broken most of my inherent "fear" of spiders.
A spider that sneaky, that big, that mean, that venomous, that will not "play nice" even under the best circumstances is just an abomination to safety.
That said...
If it were legal to export them(it isn't), I'd probably own one, ha!
Naw, sorry jumping in sorta random-I've just kept a lot of "dangerous pets", snapping turtles to assassin bugs, and always been fascinated by Australia's rather "boring looking" "creatures that will mess you the heck up".
I dunno how ya'll have the guts to go outside.
Hell, or even stay inside, for that matter!
