The pain of leaving a project for a few months then returning to find it wont compile. Nothing in the output is saying what the issue is. So now im sifting through over 1000 lines of code looking for what i am assuming is a bit operation syntax error. That's my guess as they never show on the output 😔

Does anyone know what CPU the Voyager space probes used? Im assuming the 6502 however cannot find any information about it.
-
The computers in the Voyager probes are custom built.
-
@Keatah After reading through the second link it does say the Galilio probe used the RCA-1802 on the following page

@thanatos It's actually an dedicated Phoenix tabletop. I do have an iCade card installed so something like 60 games can be selected at the moment. I have it setup that the original Phoenix PCB is still in the machine to keep everything original. So it's just a matter of pulling the iCade board and inserting the original PCB to make it fully original again. It was my fathers machine and he was looking at "upgrading" it with other games for his beer room. I told him back then to keep the system original as possible so went with the iCade board. He has recently gifted the machine to me a few months ago as he knows i always loved it and a massive retro game fan. The CRT needs an degaussing although other then that it works perfectly. I'm just a little too hesitant to make a wand and they aren't sold here in Australia

So i bought an hobbyist LCD display kit from Ebay. Screen, HDMI connector for RPi4, mounting case, touch pen and screws ect. They sent the mounting case and screws but nothing else... Rather than opening a complaint file i have sent them a message to rectify the issue by just sending me the missing parts. Since then they have dropped the listed item price by $25. Now keep trying to avoid my request by saying they will refund 35% and i can keep the crappy 3d printed mounting case. First time i have had to deal with such a shady transaction and not even sure if it's worth opening a case up through Ebay as it's more of a waste of my time to send back the unwanted parts for a full refund. On top of that now they have changed the items listing price im not sure if the 35% is of their new asking price or what i paid.

I have and yeah im assuming they're Chinese due to the email header having Asian characters.
That's the biggest issue as the missing parts are the only parts worth anything. The case they sent does have separate listings to buy individually at a fraction of the price.
Im assuming they only want to refund 35% to cover what their local postage costs were. As it was free shipping but that's common here in Australia even if they imported it from China. Due to the trade agreement between the countries.
You could be right about language barrier though, as their emails are very copy and paste style with even quotations at the start and end of message. Probably have no real idea what im actually requesting.
-
I've usually had good luck dealing with the Chinese, but sometimes... weird things...I once got an item, it worked, then they asked if I'd received it, saying some people hadn't gotten theirs or something. I said Yes, and gave positive feedback. Then they sent another email asking if I'd received it. Then another...haha...They probably just still had me on the list or something...
-
First time i have any issues with the Chinese too. It's just this seller seems to want me to give in and just take the partial refund rather than just sending the missing parts. Told them like 4 times to send the parts and are still responding with "sorry what would you like us to do to rectify the issue"... Their listing price is still half price now as to what i paid. No idea why they slashed the price other than maybe they don't actually have the stock on hand.

No matter how much electronics hardware and tools i buy there is always something i don't have or need...
-
A new year! Time to get my rear end into gear and work on some homebrew projects i have left on the backburner.
-
They only just got Windows 10 right and now they're bringing out Windows 11. Will probably be a flop just like 8
-
Windows 10 works but it has this schizoid feel because it's trying to be both a desktop OS and a mobile device platform. And no one cares about running Windows on plain tablets or smartphones.
At least with Windows 11 it improves using the desktop interface on a touchscreen (ie. snaping windows on sides using swipe guestures) that you don't need to have a clumsy Tablet Mode anymore when you unplug the keyboard.
Anyway I do use snap windows and virtual desktops for my personal projects so I'll take the free upgrade, just will have to adjust to completely different Star Menu (though I'm glad to see Widgets make a return).

Shadowrun for the SNES is lots of fun. Really enjoying this game even though you need to grind for cash

@7800Knight - I think something that helped me-I was aware of the TTG, and had plenty of experience with them, Car Wars, D&D, etc, but because I had never played it on pen and paper, I had no comparison.
There were certainly exceptions, but most similar games were in "unreal" worlds-not that I expect an apocalypse, but it still seemed more "real" than trees with pink and purple leaves, lol!!!
-
@7800Knight I have never played the tabletop version so yeah i have zero expectations. I have gone in to except it for what the game is. I think as @Rogerpoco pointed out the game isn't all that far fetched from reality in alot of ways (besides some obvious elements). Although it does have that PC point and click feel mixed with a console touch so im finding very enjoyable.
I have been playing Crystalis for the NES as well and swapping between the two lately. Very different games but i like both just as much as each other for different reasons. I think Shadowrun just has that unique feel and im liking the storyline so far. Looking forward to the Cyber Matrix element aswell, whenever i get to that point in the game.
I too struggle finding free time these days so it's going to be a long game to complete lol. All good though as it's keeping me interested.

If it's possible we happen to like the same type games(apparently so...), SaGa Frontier, on PS1(being rereleased for the Switch)was one of my favorites, EVER.
I thought it was an unloved/uncared about game, but with the rerelease, I guess not.
Is in something of a Cyberpunk world, but more fantasy than future, really.
You have me wanting to check out ShadowRun again, I have to admit, tho I really only play for high scores now, lol!!!

Dune! on the Genesis is a freaking awesome RTS. Loads of fun considering it's one of the first of that genre. Little clunky and frustrating at times but once you except it for what it is, it's a pretty damn good game for a 16bit console.
-
Still play the 16-bit NHL EA games atleast once a month. As an Australian not knowing the rules perfectly but good enough to have fun. I truly believe these games are timeless and aged well. Perfect balance of seriousness and just humorous fun. Such great games!
-
Thought i was the only one who liked the TestDrive 2 theme song. Apparently my 15 month old daughter loves it, as shes been dancing around the lounge room while i played the SNES version

I always get nervous when an ebay seller doesn't leave feedback for the buyer. It's almost like they're not confident in their product and waiting to see what feedback they receive from the buyer... I hope my friggen item is what i wanted and in working order. Too much money to be stuffed around.

All valid points, in my case it was close to a grand and some reassurance would have been nice. Having said that even if they did the transaction could have gone either way. Anyway i left them feedback, now after the fact it really doesn't bother me if they leave feedback. And i think that's the thing, when throwing your cash towards a seller and having zero response. It kind of leaves the buyer sitting there twiddling their fingers for days/weeks wondering if the seller is even sending the product.

Well im going to say it, as a fan of the Road Rash series RR on Sega CD is brilliant! Despite what people say it's really a step up from the others on the system. Is it worth the cost of buying the add-on probably not. Yes the full motion is grainy as can be, yes it's still a 16bit racer. Although there is significant improvements. Music and bike sounds in game. Changes to the gameplay with handling ect. More detailed scenery. Friends and foes that you can actually communicate with somewhat. I would have loved it back in 94. The music well sound garden is my sort of thing but guess you need to take the good with the bad.

You're correct! It was indeed a typo Gold, i meant to say Sound Garden "isn't" my type of thing. When i comes to music i think i have gotten into just about every genre.
Personally i think everything has it's place and skill although im not all that keen on Techno doof doof. In the mid 90's i liked Grunge and was massively bias towards Nirvana as a fan along with Alice in chains, Pantera and some older heavy metal/rock like Black Sabbeth, Jimmy Hendrix, Guns n Roses ect ect. Then i grew to like NY Hip Hop groups (basically anything as long as the artist/s had talent). The thing i really liked about Hip Hop was the lyrical talent. That was definitely lost after the 90's.
When it comes to Road Rash though, i think the Grunge sound is the perfect setting for that sort of game. I couldn't imagine a Heavy Metal, Techno or Hip Hop sound track when racing motor bikes, whilst bashing opponents with clubs and chains. Sounds like it could be fitting but I feel the setting of the game is a layed back grungy rebel like feel. And the cut-scenes kind of paint that picture.
Only problem i have with Sound Garden is i just never got into them. Thought they were just way over commercialized and i always liked the more obscure side of music. Same for Nirvana and even Hip Hop groups. Most people say yeah im a huge Nirvana fan but have only listened to a couple of their commercial songs, like Teen Spirit or Come As You Are. I was the one listening to their albums Bleach, In-Utero and Insecticide because they were actually the real grunge sound.
Anyway yeah i like all sorts, aslong as i see talent and not overrated. Most new stuff im really not a fan of though. And new Hip Hop/rap or whatever they call it these days i find an embarrassment to the 80s&90s classics. Doesn't matter what genre you're into it's easy to see when another goes downhill. I basically stopped following newer music after the 90's era.
Could go on for days about music lol.

Well as an Australian we're fairly used to wildlife that's dangerous. Although waking up to the cat paralyzed after being bitten by a snake isn't exactly all that fun. Poor fella couldn't move his back legs and had to go to the vet pronto. During receiving antivenom he had a reaction and went into cardiac arrest. They had to bring him back with a shot of adrenaline and start the antivenom process again. He will be in there overnight if all goes well. Might be time for a snake handler to come find the bastard that got him.

@joeatari1 his name is Chester, we saved him from a shelter about 3 years ago and his name was Beta but we didn't like it. With our Aussie accents it sounds like Chest-ah so he took to the name quickly.
Was just the perfect name as he's a ginger and white cat and a boy with attitude. So i came up with the name Chester the Cheater like from the Cheeto balls mascot and games lol.
The missus liked it and went with it. Wasn't till 12 months later she realized why i called him that after i was playing the game She was like "i thought you just made his name up..."
@_The Doctor__ Yeah they had already given him the antivenom by this stage. They said there was a choice of three for around the area but 80% sure brown snake was most likely. Then later when i found the snake the missus rang the VET to let them know it was indeed a brown. Thanks for the well wishes ?
@Swami Well apparently we have a pet possum in the tree out the back. This isn't by choice nor does he want to move house. Even when Chester tries getting him

Is it worth creating a blog or is the activity minimal around there?

Road Rash 3 - I find the hardest stage to be Brazil and Germany to be one the easiest. Doesn't matter the level Brazil is still the hardest followed by the UK IMO. It's funny because Brazil is the first stage they throw you into unless manually picking another track. It's also the decider as to if your new bike for the level was a bad choice or not. No idea why they did this but damn i get my ass whooped on that stage.

When there is that person IRL that finds out you're into retro/classic gaming. Then proceeds to tell you which 16bit system was better. Im just like no no no don't even talk to me. Just go away! Like that horse hasn't been flogged enough
-
I'll just leave this here for those who don't know
-
I would have expected by now there would be more video's about the system. Basically there is this guy who is watching the other guys video and a developer who has posted a few. There really isn't much posted about it. Also just so people know the video i linked wasn't mine just one i found when searching
-
Well Ghouls and Ghosts on the Genesis done and dusted for my first time. Never made it all the way through before. Finally ticked that box so im a happy camper for the night
-
@Razzie.P Yeah you need to finish twice for the real ending with the special fireball weapon. The game isn't all that long but rather ultra difficult so im assuming they decided to make that requirement to extend the gameplay. Still a brilliant game though, visually it's beautiful

Rampart! Just so brutal im lost for words

Haven't watched AVGN in probably 10 years now and was watching Mike Matei on a live stream. Is it just me or is the whole c@ck - fvck and all the rest lingo getting old and childish? I mean yeah it was kinda funny back when the whole AVGN thing started. But watching a guy my age sitting there live streaming games winging about everything cursing like a teenager is just cringy and hard to watch. Half of it just sounds like he's putting it on and faked anyway. Really drops the content quality as there is many better non cursing you tubers these days. Im just thinking the whole "angry gamer" thing has ran it's course...

@IntelliMission I couldn't have said it better myself. That was the main reason i stopped watching their videos. There was a popular Sega game (can't remember the game) they had no idea what to do or even really heard about it. Then there was the live stream i recently watched of Mike playing Sega Master System games. He didn't even know what Road Rash was... Not to mention the majority of the time he was mocking the system basically because it wasn't Nintendo. Even though the system is actually more powerful and most ports are more vibrant. It's become clear as day they really arn't gamers other then Nintendo and the 2600 they have mentioned before. It's just too hard to watch fanboys that clearly have no real idea what they're talking about other then their small little bubble. Personally there isn't many systems i don't like, i feel all hardware has it's place and makes the industry what it is. Like you said they're missing out on a massive library of awesome games. Every system has good and bad games. Either way though i really don't care they're missing out. The part that's hard to watch is how they act like teenage fanboys mocking other systems. Those childish one liners about genitals and farts, really makes me cringe and think why am i watching this shit... There really was a giant hole left in the retro community when Mark from CGR stopped making reviews. Atleast youtubers like 'no swear gamer' and 'John Hancock' for example are still producing good content. Anyway that's my rant lol
-
Love my 16bit racers : Test Drive - Brilliant : Nigel Mansell - No worries : Micro Machines - Easy : Road Rash - Now we're talking : Lotus 2 - Punishment! It's funny because i have such fond memories of the game yet it's just so damn hard. It's like Kaboom, where it takes that complete blank state of mind with full concentration to play well.

Sick of assholes on ebay bidding in the last 10 seconds. Happened to me like 4 times now for a friggen flashback 9. Problem is they're not very common here is Australia and i just wanted one to play my Homebrews on. Urrggg Might just pay the damn $80 in shipping and get one from the states...

@GoldLeader I got the Flashback 9 for $90 off that facebooks listing. So yeah im cheering about that, i hadn't noticed till later that the system is AV rather then HDMI. That's all good though, i have AV input on the TV and it has an SD card slot. So i can't win them all Having said that im still yet to plug it in and start updating the firmware and testing my ROM's. Im thinking the AV quality will be clear enough so no biggy. Thanks for the offer though, very thoughtful mate ?
-
All good Gold, AV quality looks a bit average on my TV though. Not sure if it's my TV, the system or im just not used to AV as i haven't another AV TV to test it on. DPC+ ROMs don't seem to work either, however i wasn't able to update the firmware which im guessing due to only having nothing less then a 16gb SD card. Atleast i got the system though haha

So does anyone know what the best Flashback units are for modding? Alot of posts are couple years old so im confused as to what would be the best bet. Also would it be the better choice going with a 7800 flashback? Can they be modded to play both 7800 games and 2600 games?
