  1. TBH Defender was one my favorite 2600 games when i was a lad and still probably in my top ten list along side Missile Command which also has had its fair share of criticism. Funny thing is i never played either of the coin-ops until the late 90's when i seen them at a bowling/arcade pala. Some say Defender 2600 stands alone as it own game and not very faithful to the coin-op(So i have read in the past) for me it was the only one i knew about for many years. Only complaint i have with it is the alien sprites and colour, however i hacked a ROM and made the subtle changes i always wanted
  2. Gorf Game: 1BB Score: 9,100 Had this game as a lad, well made game
  3. Really depends on the game for me, like said before Mario Bros is a great example. Also features such as ability to make correctional movements mid jump and run on (basically slide) are essential in Super Mario Bros. However i do think the ability to correct when in mid air on Super Mario Bros was added after the slide to make the tricky jumps a bit easier to land
  4. Defender II Game: 1BB Score: 39,350 Well after playing it for awhile and trying to work out how to use smart bombs ect (im used to the original defender) i just settled to regular lazer fire and dodging enemies managed to get the score of 39,350. As im writing this i have looked through the comments and read the manual only to find out i need to use joystick 2 aswell . Not really excited to give it a go as i think playing with both controllers will cause more mistakes however i might. Anyway this is my score sofar using only the left joy
  5. Welcome to AA, as everyones sharing their stories i have the itch to share mine aswell. Born in 1983 i almost missed the Artari 2600 boat like many others however i was very lucky to board right before it left the dock. Growing up in Australia the NES was very expensive so most my friends families like my own opted for 286 IBM PC's running DOS ect during the 80's era. DOS games have a special place in my heart too along with the 2600. As my parents split in 85 or something like that, i lived with my father to begin with, who bought a IBM rig around the same time and i loved playing the DOS games my uncle would give us. However when i would visit my mother she had a friend that had a 6 switch woody in the lounge and missile command. Everytime we would go there the adults would party and i would play the Atari all night . Then for my 5th birthday the 2600jr was out fairly cheap and mum picked me up one along with missile command of course. As you can think i was over the moon about having my own 2600 and missile command to play whenever i wanted when visiting my mother. About a year later my mother had a boyfriend that noticed i had a 2600 and he took me to his house where he had like 40 add games for the system, filled a shopping bag with them all and said "here you go mate enjoy". From then on my mother couldnt remove that Atari joystick from my hands , i felt so lucky and had many hours of fun playing all the other "new games" i had acquired. Later down the years when SNES came out my father bought me one and it was great also but i still would swap between the two systems. There was something about the 2600 i just couldnt let go. Even through the playstation years i still kept firing up the 2600. Until oneday i listened to a mate who said "you should sell your old games on this new site called ebay".... I ummed and arred bout it then made the regretful decision of selling my beloved 2600 and games on ebay. What a mistake that was, never forgave myself for that silly mistake. That was mid 2000's and have never bought another one yet, kind of annoys me that around 2008 i wanted it all back badly. Anyway nowadays i just stick to emulation and only use high quality emulators like Stella (done alot of research on emulation) for my nostalgia fix when i need it. Thinking of buying another with a harmony cart as i still love the system so much. Might be able to con the Mrs into it as i have been getting her into oldschool gaming including some 2600 games Well thats my story and sorry if its too long and boring
  6. Besides the topic in discussion being about authenticity, just so you know there is a Color/BW switch on your 2600 console. By the looks of it you have it in Black and white mode rather then colour by the looks of your screen shot photos . Move the slider switch up and im sure all your games will then be in colour. Just thought id mention that
  7. Welcome, like said by Chris++ there is the High Score Club in the 2600 sub-section. Really fun as you can post your high scores to compete against others. I played a couple of seasons and really enjoyed the challenge, great fun and an option rather then competing against yourself, kinda brings back that competitive arcade experience.
  8. Thanks BigO i will have to do that, will be alot easier to manage
  9. Thanks for the input RT i will have a good look at these programs, see if i can pick up some pointers
  10. Update: Fixed all known bugs for now along with a few small changes, if any are found please let me know. Looks like i cant edit the original post so will just attach it here. v1.01 Cat and Mouse (2016) (TT2600).bin
  11. Hi all, a while since i been around however decided to fire up the old VisualBb the other night for some fun. Anyway lost as to what to make as a project the Mrs came up with the idea of a small game of cat and mouse. So for once i had something somewhat original of an idea to sink my teeth into. Main idea was to show her some coding but the game kinda grew into something larger then expected. It's not the best little game going around nor the most fun but isn't to bad in my opinion. Thought i would share it anyway and thinking of updating it, well atleast the known varible reset bug i have found. At this moment i have used the full 4kb of allocated ROM space so havent removed the bug yet. i have been thinking of moving the source to a new 8kb project to make a more indepth game but not sure yet. The small known bug is after the game is over by pressing the fire button it will restart then game, it resets the score however does not reset the speed of the cat and another background varrible. Not too much of an issue at the moment as by pressing the console reset will reset the game(varribles) completly. I still need to downsize the sorce code anyway in return it will allow enough room to fix this bug. Basically the game is fairly simple all you really do is avoid the cat like any mouse would while collecting the small pieces of cheese for points. Your only defence is mouse droppings by pressing the fire you can lay a dropping that if the cat hits he will get off your back for a brieff moment. In addition to that if you collect more then 40 pieces of cheese and manage to make the cat run into a mouse dropping you will unlock "blue cheese" as a secondary cheese to collect. Blue cheese gives 20 points rather then the standard 5 for yellow. PS the blue cheese can be hiding behind a tree at times Anyway i know some like to see these little projects so i thought i would share the game Cat and Mouse (2016) (TT2600).bin
  12. Road Runner Game: 1BB Score: 45,500 Ran out of time this week but managed to improve on Road Runner
  13. Road Runner Game: 1BB Score: 33,700 I will kick it off with a warmup benchmark with Road Runner A few years back i remember there was some amazing scores on RR, see if i can keep up this time...
  14. A little trick i used was "stalling" the cat, as Frankie's appearance is somewhat random i found he tends to show up right when mum is serving at the table. Although also tends to rack off as soon as mum walks back. It's either when she's nearly at the table or just before she's walking towards with a new dish(most times). However using KaeruYojimbo's technique "machine gunning" you can stall Frankie for a while making him hang around longer. What i found was to throw the first plate in mum's line of sight as she serves and machine gun him to keep him there while mum walks back. You obviously get punished for the first plate but if you manage to unload enough you stay in front. Also "black" Frankie seems to hang around the longest
  15. Yeah i was worried it would so waited for the plates to build up for a game over. Is all good though
  16. You wouldn't want to/can't(due to outlet pin design) use a North American PSU anyway, their mains voltage is @120v as apposed to our 240v. You would have had to get an Australian/Euro adaptor anyway, or atleast a voltage step down regulator to use the American PSU. As for output voltage from the PSU they both should be 9vDC 500mA so there is no issues on that side of things. Nice choice getting a NTSC though
  17. MangiaGame: 1BB Score: 3,945 Got reckless towards the end and only eat about 5 that round, then noticed my score... Wish i eat a few more rather then take the risk, oh well brightside is there is room for improvement.
  18. Mangia Game: 1BB Score: 550 Not sure about this game, will give it a few more goes and see whether it grows on me.
  19. Stay Frosty 2Game: 1BA Score: 34,671 Improvement thanks to SpiceWares hint
