Winter Olympics - Atari 2600 *Closing Ceremonies*
TwentySixHundred replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Well i can gladly say here at the team Australia complex, the first ski jump was finally landed without resembling a big night out at the local pub *throws arms up applauding oneself*. With the arrival yesterday of our good friend Jacob practice sessions are now in full swing besides, some distractions from the Minogue sisters . I blame the sisters distracting me for any poor performances. Kangaroo's are watching curiously while luge practice runs are underway on four wheeled beer eskies -
I have to agree, everyone is producing what's making the cash at the time. I am sure some at Activision and so forth would like to see some remakes, yet i understand they won't make the sales to keep the business alive. Most the video game industry is aimed at one main audience (teenage lads) because well they are the largest consumers in the industry. Shame the video game industry has become comfortable sticking with the safe approach. Gone of the days when software companies shrived for completely new ideas, not just sub-par updates of the same games for years on end.

haha wtf wonder if her 'toy' was a second hand freebee too -
No worries mate, yeah may seem odd using console switches for some games. You haven't seen nothing till you pick up {Space Shuttle: A Journey Into Space} lol. http://atariage.com/manual_thumbs.html?SystemID=2600&SoftwareID=1313&ItemTypeID=MANUAL Also Welcome to AtariAge

Starmaster uses the colour/black and white switches for warping (warp zones), you have to flick the switch and a screen pops up. Move the player pixel to areas with one, two or three small pixels (they represent enemy fighters) and press fire. You will notice the ship go into warp speed and the green cockpit control panel will turn red indicating enemy within the area. Blast em and when none remain the cockpit colour will change to green repeat process until game complete. The larger pixels on the map are refuel ships that you can dock (refills the "E" meter). Starmaster is one my favorites from back in the day, a little too easy but nonetheless still fun. PS: you gotta read the manuals there is nothing wrong with your system or the carts, just haven't read the manuals.

Actually i withdraw my previous suggestion B/B game 3 would be more of a challenge but not too long -

I suggest B/B game 2 it's a bit longer with few tricky flags yet not too fast, just makes it harder to find the perfect line. -
You did hit the reset switch on the console after powering it on right? Reset usually starts the games as a start button on a playstation controller would. Only later titles had a function for joystick fire start, if you get a title screen come up the game is working you just need to start it . Also i would look at cleaning the contact pins and cart ROM's if it's been sitting 20 years, there is many tutorials here on how to clean the systems correctly. However the brown patch i am not too sure about, from what i can see it looks like it could be corrosion but not sure.

Was going to say the same sort of thing for Activisions skiing, B1 is a little too easy yet on winter games.... Well let's just say it's going to be an epic fail for team Australia lol -
Brilliant thanks for the hard work over the years

Had Yars since a young lad so to me the concept is easy, also had E.T as a lad and really enjoyed it as i knew what to do. However we used to read the manuals as a family(mum did lol) to figure these games out, without a manual you have no idea of the vast variations on the cart at the minimum. Yars is fairly straight forward but E.T had 8 directions and a fire button too yet a complete different story. Sure after some time you understand how it works but with a manual you get complete understanding of what to do. Even games like Star Master and Space Shuttle that use the console switches as functions, you would have no idea without the manual and just fly around shooting at nothing until out of fuel. 2600 had no in game walkthrough tutorials like they have on xbox's nowadays, just a simple ol' manual.

Most the time they break one of the outer pin's because people wiggle the shit out of it while plugging the controller in, thus breaks the outer pins holding the male connecter/socket in place(as shown by zylon). Personally i would buy a soldering iron for $5, some solder, watch a quick tutorial on how to solder and have a few practice runs on an old electrical board you may have laying around from something. Soldering really is not all that hard you just need to get a bit of a feel for it. Will cost around $7 or so for an iron and solder which saves you 20 odd dollars and keeps a system alive, not to mention you will pick up some skills.

These are brilliant, i would be so tempted to assemble them but at the same time would want to leave as it. I agree scans would be cool to see what they look like in 3d form, too cool

A! mate with that sort of a mod you gonna need a cone filter, huge wing and a fart cannon so you can be pulled over by cops every time you leave the drive way...... Mainly for performance reasons of course:) -
Says to me the site is banned in my country

Hi from a new Aussie member. Opinions wanted
TwentySixHundred replied to AussieChris's topic in Atari 2600
Stella is brilliant, been using it for years and it's pretty much the real deal besides the physical presents of an original Atari. All functions work correctly and you can buy USB adapters of ebay or whatever to plug in original controllers like paddles or keyboards. With emulation there is good and bad emulators, some cycle accurate and replicate the original hardware while others are "hacky" so to speak. After a few years of looking into emulation of all platforms, i believe Stella and the SNES emulator Higan are cycle accurate and replicate the original hardware which then plays the ROMs making them far superior. So in a nutshell you should have no problems with Stella Choice is yours, at least with an emulator you don't need to lug the system and game carts back and forth to ya shack taking up valuable beer space in the car Edit also make sure you have the latest Stella version 3.9.2 and a decent ROMs pack like the one from ROMHunter at Atarimania -

Stella should play all ROM's unless the ROM itself is a bad dump or you are using a very old version of Stella. Personally i would go with Stella on an LCD as you can change/fix the aspect ratio and would make life easier when changing games on a tabletop. Also if you have a PAL system @50hz you may have trouble with some LCD's. IMO for us Aussies the best experience is original hardware on a CRT or Stella as i really dislike original 50hz hardware on a LCD. Im picky though and if the aspect ratio isn't correct it will drive me nuts, anyway if using emulators you could also use MAME for coin-op games. Would look and sound just like the tabletops we had in fish n chip stores during 80-90's Edit: Welcome aboard -
Yeah i was thinking for one you would need some sort of a scroll bar added for long manuals such as Space Shuttle but other then that i assume the code would be similar to the screenshot feature. The charts and uploading packs to Atarimania sound like a really good ideas too, maybe if it were to be implemented expand the feature to include cart.png's and box art tabs ect. I am not to sure how much work it would be or even if have posted the topic in the correct section, feel free to move or send a link to Stephena

This is the order i acquired these, however play time on each of the systems overlap as i have always liked to go back and play the classics. Unfortunately for me late gen console gaming is not the same as back in the day so it is classic console or PC gaming for me. Atari 2600 -> PC-DOS 286-486 -> NES -> SNES -> PC-Win95 Pentium 1 -> Playstation -> Megadrive(Gen) -> Master System -> PC-Win98 Pentium 3 -> PS2 -> PC-WinXP Pentium 4 various though to AMD945 -> PS3 -> Currently PC-Win7 AMD1100TBE
