Yes that's a bit surprising in the Lynx programming section ...

But if you are not looing for anything specific you can give a try there : http://opengameart.org/
IT'S PERFECT!!!

Everywhere was not the answer.

I'll check it out thanks....
...As this is a good enough start, I may just have the admins remove the other cross-posts.

...but i can't draw!
example:
http://lpugh.deviantart.com/art/8-Bit-Firefox-Icon-215241134
am working on a game engine (for both Windows and Linux but mainly Linux) but not necessarily a game and am in desperate need of retro-themed or retro-styled 8 bit and or 16 bit images. non-game specific. doesn't matter. any format. any image. (even an found an icon that looks like an 8 bit version of the 24 bit firefox icon). help?
sorry for the multi-cross-post but as my project is not game/machine specific...wasn't sure where to post it? O_o
(forum admins: please move and or delete posts as necessary)

There's no way to do it within the UI, but it can be forced from the commandline by adding "-tv bw" to the options (stands for TV Type = BlackandWhite). You'd have to edit the Windows ICON file, or do something similar in Linux/OSX. Or simply create a script to launch Stella that way.
Remember though, that many (most?) games don't actually have a B&W mode, as it was software controlled. Some ROMs even use the B&W key for some other purpose, so forcing B&W might do something unexpected.
Use the command line:
Thanks, I'll try that.

does anyone know how to make B&W the default in Stella for all the games that had or used a B&W mode; rather than individually per game?

I don't think I have anything in my collection, but I will check. I only ever formatted a few disks with 3.0, before moving to 2.5. Once I got Sparta DOS, I never touched a menu based DOS again.
Once I got my HD setup back in the early 90's I first used MyDOS but settled on SDX after I bought the RT:8 cart.

Hey I've read nearly all the threads (both on AtariAge and other forums) regarding Atari DOS 3. I still even have my DOS 3 (the "bug-free" version) Master Disk that came with my original 1050. As with many here, it was the first DOS I used before I stumbled upon DOS 2.5 and later MyDOS followed by SpartaDOS (my fav). Other than being a seemingly worthless POS, it is neat to just tinker around with.
Has any programmer's information ever been located for DOS 3? For example, I remember a small patch on some of the BBS's back in the day for the XL series that converted DOS 3 from Enhanced Density to true Double Density (IIRC this came out either shortly before DOS 2.5 or thereafter) for some non-Atari DD drives (like my rana had a hard time reading Enhanced Density DOS 3 disks but reads Ehanced Density DOS 2.5 disks just fine, not sure now if it was my disks or the drive). Weren't there some commercial programs that used DOS 3?
Any programmer's or developer's information would be greatly appreciated.

thanks. i'll check out the links.

2 questions:
Is there a website (or websites) dedicated to either Alternate Reality (doesn't matter which one) and or Temple of Apshai? ...one where I can d/l the game (for an emulator) and at least has the maps (not just the walk-throughs)?
Anyone ever complete these games? When was the last time you played it and or completed it?

i intend to take it to source forge once i get something going which, hopefully, will be real soon.

problem is I don't like flash for game development and i doubt i'm the only one that feels that way. even java is not my cup-o-joe (no pun intended). i'm not looking at making another emulator outright but more an engine that'll make it easier to mimic the old games: gameplay, sound, graphics, etc. all these modern remakes of our favorite games use modern graphics and sound; but what I am trying to do is allow a programmer to recreate these games (2600 Outlaws or 2600 Donkey Kong for example) without the need of or use of an emulator.
-
obviously sound will be much easier to simulate than color/graphics; may have to simulate in a window versus full screen to get the proper effect. controllers (either analog/digital) only slightly easier than sound (a simple software-based AD/DA convertor might do the trick).

What about Caverns of Khafka?

In other words, a straight text editor is all that is required for those narcissistic enough.

-
C++ for 2 reasons:
1. Portability, plain and simple.
2. Keeping it pure C++ will allow developers to use the development tools they are most comfortable with.
-
if one were to design an API to make it easier to allow game developers to "simulate" or "emulate" a classic game (say Pac Man, Super Mario Bros., Pitfall, or even Zork), what would that API have to include or be able to do?
i'm working on an game engine that i'm hoping will make it easier to develop vintage style games (coin-op, PC, or even console); with little effort so that they can easily be ported to other machines (MacOS, iOS, Windows, Linux, current consoles, etc.) and not just emulators.
what are your thoughts? what would it need? what would you want to be able to do with it?
-
Anything new (hombrew or not) or freshly updaed is appreciated.

The Aquarius could nearly handle most of the early 2600 games easily: Night Driver, Outlaws, heck even Adventure.

Does anyone have any advanced programming info on Atari DOS 3? ML Calls, XIO, etc. ?

am loving it. that sites rocks, though i'd like to see more 8 bit stuff.
