  1. Actually thats exactly the intent that phrase was meant to achieve. If you look at the write-up I say that I got hooked on 8-bit micros when a friend gave me a Powerbook 2400c, later I say 'To be honest I, my real obsession with 8-bit computers started way back when I was 11 years old..." Is that wrong?
  2. Thanks, The background colour has been darkened.
  3. Hi, Seems that the color issues is getting a lot of comments. I will darken the background grey for more contrast. Thanks for your help. Philip
  4. Hi everyone, I wanted to let you all know that my new retro computing site, neoncluster.com, has finally gone live. It's still a bit of a work in progress, and you may come across some bad grammar, spelling mistakes, and the new look and feel still needs to be applied to some blog sections, but all in all I'm very happy with it. www.neoncluster.com For those interested in articles and repair logs, please have a look at the projects page where you can find write-ups on a lot of my fixes. This section will be constantly updated as new articles are written. If you just want to read my personal take on the computers in my collection, you can access this by clicking on the images on the front page. Enjoy, and if you have any comments, please don't hesitate in contacting me. Philip
  5. I hate reading this thread. I ordered one of these about 7 months ago. Never received it. Lots of excuses, then stopped getting replies to my emails. Waste of time and money. Poor me!
  6. Yeah! I just tried this on my A400. It's great!
  7. Mine: AV 245356 Date code stamp looks like 763, but that can't be right so I guess it's 163.
  8. Don't forget to install the SDRIVE.ATR file too.
  9. Mine arrived today..small box of awesomeness
  10. Apple II's had it's fair share of software piracy too...so maybe the reason for Atari's failure is elsewhere?
  11. You may win as I just realized Monday is a national holiday here :-(
  12. I made this image in anticipation of my adaptor arriving as I found Sals 'instructions' to be lacking, and I wanted something simple to understand. As most of you know my unit never arrived and Atari Rage just melted away. I was just going to make mine composite (not S-video) and solder a 470pf cap between Y and C to do this. You can ignore this otherwise. Also I wasn't going to wormy about the audio so I didn't shown any of those connections. Anyway, hope this helps...and I hope there are no mistakes.
  13. Well, it seems that I'm not the only one who has had bad experience with Atari Rage. In fact it seems quite common. I wish I had known this before giving him my money and wasting my time worrying and sending multiple email. What first tipped my off that something was wrong was his comment that customs had rejected the envelope because he had put Atari cart as the contents of the package instead of Atari circuit upgrade. Those must be some seriously retro savvy customs guys. Anyway, still nothing in the mail as of Jan 7th.
  14. Hoping mine will arrive either today or Monday. I'm thinking Greece to US shouldn't take longer than Greece to Japan.
  15. For the sake of harmony, I asked Tempest to change the title of the thread. Sorry if it offended some people.
  16. Firstly, thanks for the replies. I do indeed hope to resolve this problem, but after many emails it may be a lost cause. Marius1976, if you are offended by the word 'sucks' (not s*cks'. It's not a swear word you know. You don't need to put that asterix in there as I'm pretty sure it won't be flagged.) then the internet must be a scary place. I can think of a thousand more insulting things to say. It is however my personal opinion of a company that has taken my money and wasted my time. To answer your questions. I wasn't aware that I was 'bothering' you. I can't remember forcing you to read this thread. But thanks to your reply it keeps this thread topical and assures more people will read it. I was however 'bothering' those who would be interested in hearing my experiences with Atari Rage and find the information invaluable. Personally I would be very happy to read someones thread giving factual information on their experience, good or bad, with companies such as Atari Rage. Information like this would be invaluable if I was thinking of having dealings with said company.
  17. Yes, I have read the thread about him being sick. And I think I have had great patience. I have been waiting THREE months for someone from Atari Rage (Sal Kjmann?) to ship me a composite adaptor See this thread: http://www.atariage....__fromsearch__1 I ordered and payed for this on September 25th. A tiny assembly of parts that can fit in an envelope and arrive Internationally within less than a week. I have emailed Atari Rage about 8 times and have 3 replies and nothing but excuses. #1 "You should get it sometime next week" #2 "Customs rejected it. Stupid me I put Atari cart as the contents of the package instead of Atari Circuit upgrade" #3 Finally and email from his 'fiance' "He is in the hospital from a allergic reaction to black mold found in our house and has pneumonia" Finally I received a google checkout email saying that the item had shipped...but that was nearly a month ago! I feel I have been give a total run around from this company. Just a bunch of excuses for why I haven't received my item. What annoys me even more is that it's probably $5 worth of parts and shipping that he charges $30 for. I knew it was over priced when I payed for it, but at the time I didn't really feel like building one up with a perf board (my bad). Kjmann, if you are listening...Please refund my money or ship my item.
  18. I too have a Hakko 808, and like the posters above I find it invaluable for all my desoldering needs. Applying extra solder to the pads before starting the desoldering process is often key to a great desoldering experience. When the tip becomes clogged, I don't use a drill bit, but rather a thin wire like tool that came with my unit. it often becomes clogged if I accidentally suck up a bit of metal or broken IC leg or something similar, and these can be hard to clear from the tip as they can get rally stuck. Overall, an amazing tool that has allowed me to fix many things (from recapping monitors, to fixing many 70's and early 80's computers and arcade boards) that I would never have considered doing before purchasing it. Two thumbs up.
  19. Thanks for the link. I downloaded the "instruction manual" from the page. It's not very comprehensive...in fact i'd be hard pressed to call it a manual at all, just a couple of pictures showing mount points. I'm sure things would become clearer if I had the parts infront of me, but there isn't even a clear picture of what the unit looks like on the page so it's hard to imagine. Anyway, what I wanted to know was where does the board fit? Is it possible to not have to drill a hole in the case to mount the female s-video socket? I want to keep everything internal, maybe use a small s-video to composite adaptor (also internal) and then I can possibly unplug the existing internal RF cable and plug that into the S-video to composite adaptor and use this cable to send the composite signal out of the machine. Does this make sense. I want to keep the external looks of the machine unchanged. I'm not so worried about the audio and can keep using the internal speaker. Cheers
  20. Hi kjmann, Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I've been reading up on your mod. I've been wanting to do an s-video/composite mod, and I would love to get one of your boards. Would I be able to order one from you? Also, a quick question. Many of the links on this threads seem to be broken. Is it possible that there is a place that shows how your mod is mounted internally in the 400, and also how to build it. Much thanks in advance
  21. Seems this link is not working: http://www.atarimagazines.com/v3n1/littlebrother.html Does anyone else know where else to find a copy of the 'Little Brother Grows Up' composite Video mod? Thanks
  22. That's a shame. I would have loved to get this for my A400, but not being able to close the lid would kill me. Thanks
