I know what you mean.... but frankly, I'm so glad to see him gone. In fact, I cracked open a few beers tonight just to celebrate. I'm slightly bothered by your "please keep your promise this time".... has he pulled this one before? I was about to go to bed happy tonight.

While humming the "It's a small world after all" theme.... I just bought this one off ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-XL-XE-Reproduction-MIO-Interface/323197471159?hash=item4b401209b7:g:K-QAAOSw4N1ayjBO

For him, that's kinda appropriate.

Eh. Sell em both and go Rambo!

Or just turn your Atari mouse into an optical mouse. https://www.dropbox.com/s/49nhklf374ef5kv/AtariLaser Mouseboard.pdf?dl=0

YYZ and 8Bit Guild are run by the same guy, so something like an internet burp will likely take both down. ST Guild just needed a reboot I think. I was able to get on that last night after he reset it.
-
They just refuse the connection. (I've been trying to find a way around that for my BBS, but no real time to explore it so far).
-
Yeah, that can happen with dynamic services.... That said it's back up. Just got off it.
-
... or, it's that. Maybe we need to track one of those guys down and find out more information.

If I recall right.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_ring_back Basically, you call the BBS, but it's busy. So you sit around watching TV, hanging out, maybe calling another BBS... when the line is free, they call you. You set your modem to answer.... and you're on. The way I recall it working, you (the caller) got a different "ring" on your phone to let you know it was a ringback... the person you called... they'd get a regular ring (which would trigger the modem's answer routine).
-
Well, part of why I'm asking is that the "emulating an internet modem" can be somewhat mucky sometimes. One of the reasons many BBS SysOps can't use things like the WiFi232, which for example doesn't support DCD and RI (which if you're calling out, you don't really need, but if you're running a BBS it's pretty important). Like I said before, I'm just asking out of curiosity if your solution might make it possible to eliminate my 2-box solution.
-
So just out of curiosity, is this "one box" solution only going to be geared for your service, or for regular BBSing and other applications?
-
But that's half the fun!

Well, I should have been more clear... I have never done anything to this point with flashing cart images... that's the part I need to get squared away. Just need to order the stuff and do it. I'll probably get motivated after my new MIO arrives.
-
Yeah.. I had one from back in the day... (It's still around somewhere) and I think I picked up 1 or 2 more (one I bought specifically and I think another was in a lot off ebay). Loved it with my SupraModem 2400 after the 1030 died.

Man... that goes back further than I do. I don't remember any of those NE Ohio BBS's. I really didn't get into the BBSing until about '86-'87. Not sure when the Akron area Atari BBS's started up but none of them seem to be on that list.
-
I hear that... Let me know how it works... Though I'd have to get my hands on the PLATO cart.....
-
Insert long drawn-out groan here.....
-
It should be.... But maybe I didn't change the message from the testing days. I'll do that this weekend... but truth be told, I don't maintain it much because no one seems to care.

I'm overdue checking in on the BBSs so I'll try them when I get home from work.

Gribnif Software released as Freeware?
Tillek replied to Tillek's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
At least I know what I'm doing for part of the weekend. -
I didn't notice this posted here, and it only showed up on the Facebook groups today... But apparently, Geneva, Neodesk and a few other little programs were released as Freeware by Dan Wigla? As posted in multiple places..... Just thought I'd pass it along.

You're welcome. If anyone finds any errors or issues, please let me know.
