  1. So you're saying that I can't use an ICD Link2 to have a 2.1gb drive on my system? Or am I misunderstanding what you're trying to do?
  2. Are you talking about running it off the internal one? Because if you're attaching it to the ACSI using something like ICD's Link2 you can already go bigger than a gig (I'm running a 2.1gb and a 345mb HDs externally on the BBS machine).
  3. Ok... got the issue fixed. Had something that was causing issues with the logoff maintenance (totally my fault, so it's fixed now). Didn't have anything to do with the fTelnet client thankfully. I was actually using it most of this evening to catch up on my messages and do some other maintenance, so it's looking pretty solid. This weekend I plan to do some more enhancement of the site and the status (and put the status on the Telnet page so you can see what the system's status is before hitting connect). For the 8-bit SysOps....... I still haven't heard from the author about the ATASCII functionality. Allegedly it can do ATASCII and I can get it so it can do ASCII with a 40 col blue screen (it even does the buzzer!), but when you hit "return" it identifies itself with an ASCII CR and won't do ATASCII mode. However, looking at the code, the functionality should be there, so I'm trying to figure out how to get it working again and see what issues remain to be fixed. We shall see.
  4. I can tell from the status that something crashed. I'll get it back up as soon as I get home from work. Had an issue with logoff maint yesterday but nothing to do with the telnet.
  5. So I notice that I haven't actually posted anything here in awhile.... I'll try to rectify that..... In the meantime, I have added a web telnet client to the STar Fleet HQ web page so that those who want to call but don't have a telnet client setup can enjoy an old school Atari ST BBS. If you're interested.......... http://www.sfhqbbs.org/telnet.php
  6. Yeah, this really isn't any contest. The 1040STE with 4mb is clearly the best on the list. The only thing better would be a Mega STE. The 520STFm is the next. Simply because the difference between the 1040STf and the 520STFm is the modulator. If you really wanted to, you could hook it up to a TV.
  7. Well, what I was thinking was something more where the bottom is replaced (leaving the original untouched) and then the top would actually interlock with the beige top of the 1200's vents on the side. Add some port extenders and install 2 1050 guts and you're good. And nothing has to be destroyed and could be easily restored. Of course, this would require the big 3d printer and a lot of precise measurements and trial & error.
  8. I've always been interested in which languages did the tightest/fastest code. Been looking to get back into some development but alas, I'd have to set up a dev environment of some kind... don't even know where to start right now.
  9. You don't happen to have a website with pictures, do you? (I need a fix....)
  10. People being rude on the internet? The hell you say! But hey, you obviously beat that cancer at 20. She'll beat this. The survivor ability seems to run in the family.
  11. So the real question is how much would a 3d printer capable of printing something that size cost? Make something like a kit to convert a 1200xl and 2 1050's into something not unlike a 1450xld.
  12. I've used both SyncTerm and the Lantronix in experiments to do other internet protocol stuff by changing the port. Like getting a website. I've used SyncTerm and a properly formatted Http request on port 80 to get a web page response. I was actually working on using this to experiment with my Atari 8-bit test BBS to update a webpage of it's status in real time. (With STar Fleet HQ, I do it with an ethernec card, but I don't have an ethernet adapter for the A8). If I could find a way to have 2 Lantronix (one through the MIO and another through an 850 or P:R: (I have both) I could ACTUALLY do it in real time). At this point, it's more of a "after a user logs out". The thing is, at some point you're not really Telnetting, but just using raw connections.
  13. For anyone who was interested but got a problem with validating your email address...... I fixed the bug so it won't do that anymore. (Originally, that was your "real" address field... which had to be 20 characters or more to "validate", so I fixed that). Thanks to those who have checked it out.
  14. I think it's a safe bet that since this thread has been towards the top long enough, anyone who cares enough to actually call has already been following it. Plus it's silly to really promote it on a temporary address.
  15. As far as the telnet goes, I'm a big fan of the Lantronix devices. I use an MSS-100 for SFHQ (for the domain name resolution for Fidonet) and a UDS-10 for the Carina system. Other than the lack of a busy signal and IP logging, I've been happy with them. I have not been happy with TCPSer and the Commodore BBS server. I think Lord Cygnus is using the SIO2PC as his interface to his Lantronix, so that might be helpful. Not sure what baudrate that supports. I've considered using that myself, but I prefer the MIO for the "retro street cred". I'm not a big fan of "modern" stuff on my BBS systems (that's just a personal choice) but for backing up, I use SIO2PC with Ape. I'm sure others will have better suggestions. Maybe it might be better to let us know what you might already still have? And how "real" you're going to keep it? I mean, you could go Ultimate 1MB, SIDE2, APE for the printer/modem (and backups perhaps, it's too slow to effectively replace a hard drive). I'd be happy to help you with whatever you need.
  16. For anyone interested.... the Veteran Adventurer's Guild can be reached (for now) at bbs.sfhqbbs.org port 4444. It's not 100% where I want it, but it's stable enough for people to call. Enjoy! The games are in a sig called "The Arena" (keyword games).
  17. Ok... Let me know if this works for you. As soon as I can track down the original RoboWar disks, I can archive those for you as well. (They're here somewhere, I've seen them recently but I boxed up a bunch of stuff to try to make some space to organize the junk). It's a 16mb HD image ATR so if that doesn't work let me know. ROBOZEN.zip
  18. I'm copying it now... sorry for the delay. My place is so disorganized right now (getting it organized this holiday weekend ended up being an epic fail) and I can't find the original disks... but I'm copying it from the working MODSEC. It includes my simple menus, so MAIN.TXT is the main menu A is the MAIN from Robowar. I'm also including Zenobia. It'll be on a HD partition ATR... (I'm still cloudy on file transfer between the A8 and PC... it's been awhile but it will come back to me).
  19. Unfortunately, the memory issues have nothing to do with that. That's a life thing.
  20. You have a sick Mega STE!?!?!?!? I'm on may way! We have to save the little guy... (and in the meantime I'll bring my sick Falcons and we can play "Atari General Hospital"). But seriously, what's wrong with the MSTE? Anything I might be able to help with?
  21. Yeah, but is this active? I was under the impression this was old and he wasn't doing them anymore. If he is still doing them.............. my paychecks are about to evaporate quickly.
  22. I just wish someone would come out with a new run of MIO type devices. (I have a 256k that I'm using and somewhere in storage I have a 1mb, both original ICD units). But the CSS Black Box or something else would be great. Even a PBI "serial/parallel" (or even serial only) device. Any of the "more technically endowed" able to speculate how fast of a serial port a PBI device could theoretically handle?
  23. I run an Atari BBS (soon to be 2)... I >WORK< Atari every day. Any my "Atari Room" >IS< my office. But still, thanks for the pic. It's always nice to see others. Love how that monitor looks with the Mega ST(e)s.... (I have the same one on mine).
