Back in the "begin times"..... Apple version of "Castle Wolfenstein"... but remade with Smurfs replacing the Nazi guards. https://www.evl.uic.edu/aej/smurf.html
-
Well, I'm also celebrating because a lot of my side projects hit some milestones today (this being one of them) and there is alcohol involved. If I tried to send it to you now I might end up sending you a grossly inappropriate version of Castle Smurfenstein........

Thanks... I'm pretty much shot... and like I said, I'm not 100% sure if it came from the floppies I had downloaded it to "back in the day" or an archive I downloaded. I started this about a year ago, and I barely remember what I had for dinner last night. But I'll try to sort it out tomorrow and get it to you.
-
What's the best way to send it to you?
-
Just for info.... This is the setup that it's running on.... I am running on an Atari 800xl (my actual childhood machine that I always wanted to run a BBS on but couldn't because my parents wouldn't let me have my own line unless I paid for it and I was too young to get a job). 256k Rambo (that I installed when I was in grade school) 256kMIO An SH204 hard drive (basically, bypassed the ST host adapter and went straight from MIO to the controller on the SH204... works beautifully). Lantronix UDS-10 @ 19200 R-Time 8 (original) and Basic XE I find Basic XE makes it run a little faster, but I haven't noticed any difference when it comes to making it run "better" but the Zenobia docs say they require it. I do use an Atarimax SIO2USB to do backups and transfer things between the Atari and PC, but I don't leave it connected most of the time and it doesn't do anything with the BBS except the backup.

Do you know a quick way to determine which version you have? Triads mentioned that a version for Carina 2.0 and then this 22 archive. I just know mine works with Carina 2.7. But it was over a year ago so I don't remember if I copied it from an archive, or from my old floppies. I'll look at that and get back to you. Either way, I can get you something that works.
-
Ok... Just a small status update. I got the system running with Zenobia and Robowar. I contacted the guys for the first round of testing and we'll see how that goes.
-
I have Carina and Robowar working how I want (or so it appears) and once I get out of bed I'll work on Zenobia. Once thats done I'll turn it over to some guys I got with earlier for testing.
-
I think I got Robo working last night but it got late and I work early. Things got slow since I was sick last weekend and with my long commute I only get a couple hours a night. I'll do the finishing touches tonight and if it works I'll let you know what I did. I also have a few people lined up to help me test it to make sure it's stable-ish before I open it to the wild. Funny thing. My biggest problem right now seems to be finding a good editor for the ATASCII and ASCII files. Unfortunately my work blocks Atariage so I'll post more details when I get home. So... Veteran Adventurer's Guild or Veteran Gamers Guild? Also if things go as planned, I should have Zenobia and some other games too.

Oh! I could take mine in! I'll tell them it's for testing our web-app in "alternate non-java environments".

Mega STe and Over-Driven Sound
Tillek replied to pixelmischief's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I can only say that when I was using my Mega STE as my main machine back in the day, I had it hooked up to some nice speakers and I can't really say I had any complaints. I'm not audiophile but squawky... I'd probably have noticed. -
I never got to experience those much. Occasionally when there was a free offer (but notice how the free offer barely covered the sign up time and reading all the disclaimers?) When I was old enough and had my own money that I could have chosen to spend, they had already gone by the wayside (or were still on life support but there were better ways). It would be great if someone could actually find archives of that and set it up as a nostalgia piece.

The best games do! Otherwise.... well... we wouldn't waste time playing sucky games. (Usually)
-
Wow... One heck of a necro-bump but thank you. I'm actually working on playing a lot of those old games start to finish and that one was definately on my list.

Well, that's good to know about the ANSI.... As far as Dave Hunt. Not sure when you talked to him but I had sent him an email last January (2016) about purchasing the software if possible and getting the most up to date copy and this was his response. (I'm assuming there isn't anything special about me and that anyone who could get their hands on it would be able to run it). As for Ben, the copy on his site was corrupted. I had asked him a follow up question about something, but never got an answer. I work on it now and then, but just never made it a priority based on the activity level of SFHQ and the Atari BBS's I call. Lately, SFHQ has had a bit more activity and I've been working on both. __________________________________________________ Greetings Andy! All of my Carina files are currently on hard drives that haven't been fired up in over 10 years now. I don't currently have a Carina system up and running, and can not offer much in the way of support. The internet forced me to switch over to IBM's to make a living. That being said, if you can find a copy of Carina, you are welcome to run it with my blessings, free of charge. Ben Smith MIGHT have a copy... Sorry I can't be of more help... Cheers! And I think it's working well with 19200 with my MIO too. (But this version is supposed to support ANSI and I can't figure that out). I don't know how "complete" my files are or if they're the latest. The Shadow unfortunately didn't have a copy anymore. I plan to at least finish the screens next weekend, but I've been focusing on SFHQ lately (actually got 2 new callers today!!!!)

I've been working on putting one up.... I got the Lantronix thing possibly solved but I don't know if it's a good solution. But I'm having issues with RoboWar. Play once and it doesn't recognize it's a different day, so it tells you you're out of time and things go in an endless loop if it's the only game in that group. (That's the main reason I won't put it up yet). Your next questions is "what did you do to get it working". My answer will be "I don't remember". Profanity will follow...... Then I'll pipe in with something like "well, actually I kept notes of all the changes I made just for this very reason" (someone else wanting to know). But I don't have those with me right now, so the community will have to wait till probably tomorrow to debate the merits of my solution to the problem. (It's a Lantronix UDS 10 btw)

So much for my dreams of getting one and installing a pair of 810 Happy Mods in it.

The Enterprise (U.S.S.) retired after 56 years
Tillek replied to _The Doctor__'s topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
My uncle was an oral surgeon on the Enterprise for a time. -
The materials list is already in the original thread if you want to get a quick look at it. As for me, how much would it be for 7? (I.... have... a... plan.......)
-
I would love that. I tried using BBS server and TCPSer and had problems with my BBS. I had to go back to the Lantronix. The lack of a busy signal is the only thing I don't like about it. I at least got the BBS to tell the website what its status was, but thats a pain to have to check to see if there is a problem or if someone is online.

Game Disk Images as a Datasource
Tillek replied to pixelmischief's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Programming
And so then I go give your link a thorough read and find that you have indeed heard of it and linked to it. But I like your approach as well. Even playing the new one, I still have nostalgia for the old one (which about 10 years ago I actually played start to finish.... finally....) It is one of my absolute favorite all time games. -

Have you heard of/looked into the Sundog Resurrection Project? http://www.sundogresurrectionproject.com/ -
Any chance you're anywhere near NE Ohio? I'd be able to help directly. It would be a shame to lose what was on there. I could probably help you get an FTP set up but probably not till the weekend. I was doing that between the BBS and the PC (still do actually) and backed up the stuff from the TT I got before recently getting a CosmosEX.

The goal is to hit them all. The goal..... We shall see.
