Now, we just need to find source code for M.O.E.
Are Jerry Horanoff or David Hunt still around?
There is some kind of carrier detect issue with M.O.E.
If I do this:
100 STATUS #2,X:?PEEK(747):GOTO 100
The value changes depending if I have an active telnet connection to the Lantronix (as it should).
but
If I have M.O.E. turned on, it never changes. Carina never sees carrier so it sits at the wait screen.
Has anyone gotten Carina to work with telnet?
I've been working on putting one up.... I got the Lantronix thing possibly solved but I don't know if it's a good solution.
But I'm having issues with RoboWar. Play once and it doesn't recognize it's a different day, so it tells you you're out of time and things go in an endless loop if it's the only game in that group.
(That's the main reason I won't put it up yet).
Your next questions is "what did you do to get it working".
My answer will be "I don't remember".
Profanity will follow......
Then I'll pipe in with something like "well, actually I kept notes of all the changes I made just for this very reason" (someone else wanting to know).
But I don't have those with me right now, so the community will have to wait till probably tomorrow to debate the merits of my solution to the problem.
(It's a Lantronix UDS 10 btw)

A comment...
You cannot just make an 815 DD disk on a USD1050 or XF551. The 815 writes data inverted to the other Atari drives, so you have to format your disk on the 815 itself.
If anybody up here buys this thing, I can send you a good 815 disk or I can walk you through it..
Bob
So much for my dreams of getting one and installing a pair of 810 Happy Mods in it.

One please, with the list of required materials! Thanks!
The materials list is already in the original thread if you want to get a quick look at it.
As for me, how much would it be for 7? (I.... have... a... plan.......)

I would love that. I tried using BBS server and TCPSer and had problems with my BBS. I had to go back to the Lantronix. The lack of a busy signal is the only thing I don't like about it.
I at least got the BBS to tell the website what its status was, but thats a pain to have to check to see if there is a problem or if someone is online.

And so then I go give your link a thorough read and find that you have indeed heard of it and linked to it.

But I like your approach as well. Even playing the new one, I still have nostalgia for the old one (which about 10 years ago I actually played start to finish.... finally....)
It is one of my absolute favorite all time games.

Proabably currently only builds and works on Linux/Ubuntu, but I've cleaned up and uploaded my code for the Sundog port: https://github.com/laanwj/sundog
Have you heard of/looked into the Sundog Resurrection Project?

Any chance you're anywhere near NE Ohio? I'd be able to help directly. It would be a shame to lose what was on there.
I could probably help you get an FTP set up but probably not till the weekend. I was doing that between the BBS and the PC (still do actually) and backed up the stuff from the TT I got before recently getting a CosmosEX.

The goal is to hit them all. The goal..... We shall see.

Yeah, I think it would be part of the fun to not emulate. And I kind of wanted to do the impoting of characters from one game to the next. Terrible thing about that though is from what I had read, you basically just get half of your xp for the next game, so there is still that bit of grind to hit level 8.
Well, for this "Ultimate Quest" as I call it, I know I can't play all the classic RPG's out there.... My life expectancy just isn't that long and .... job... So I was going to start by playing the ones I actually have on hand (like with boxes and manuals). For Ultima 1, I only had a single disk (but it was an original, I got it in a lot of disks with an 800xl, but no manuals or box). 2-6 I have either from childhood or ebay on the A8 or ST. My brother got me 9 for christmas back in the day and I also bought the Ultima Collection for the PC back in the day which will cover the rest..... (as soon as I dig it out of the storage unit).
After that, I have to see what I have laying around since half the time I got these games in lots and I don't know half the stuff I have.

Tillek: I am currently playing through Atari ST Ultima II so will let you guys know if I complete it fine. I think am okay with paying the hotel clerk 900coins for a 9 point stat increase, just takes little longer than PC/MAC versions I guess (coz they get 4points for 100 coin or up to 36 points for 900 coin)
I owned U2 (3 and 4) on the Atari 8-bit from back in the day, so that will probably be the way I go on that one. I got U5 and U6 for the ST on Ebay.
I don't do emulation generally speaking.
-
There were subtle differneces in different versions. I started re-playing all of them recently and the Atari 8-bit version of Ultima 1 didn't do things exactly the same way (or even 100% the same way the documentation was laid out).

From what Mike and Paul have indicated, only about 20-30 units were ever made and sold.
That's another problem alright. They are looking for the original software and as far as an
original manual? <shrugs>.
Are you talking about MichTron 3?

Will want at least 1

Just a quick update on the STar Fleet HQ "Update" (since I'm heading to work, more later).
Things were bad trying to set up the CosmosEX... bad to the point where I thought I lost not only both of the BBS Hard drives and the "spare" replacement external HD I got for my TT.
However, I moved everything over to the TT and was able to get it working with the CosmosEX and the main BBS drive seems to be ok for sure. The boot drive I'm not 100% sure about as it first didn't detect it, but then on the second reboot, detected it just fine.
I am still in the process of doing the last of the backups on it (full entire backups of 2.5gb) and had to go to bed. It still seems to be going ok this morning so when I get home I'll back up the last partition and get back to the updates.
Assuming that there is nothing wrong with the Mega STE and that the system just really didn't like the CosmosEX being on the SCSI chain with the drives on the ICD Link2, I should have it up with at least some of the improvements later in the evening and will have the BBS back up for business before I call it a night. (I'll finish the other major stuff next weekend).

I'm a 5 hour drive away. I could make a trip in late spring through early fall (i.e., when the weather is not shit).
If you're interested, since we're both from the Akron area, we could do the car pool thing..... I've done the Gencon trip a few times so it's nothing for me.

There was actually a 3rd party MIDI networking solution available
at one time...
Did it allow for file sharing? I'll have to double check my old archives of stuff... but I could really use something like that.

Guys, I got a response from "Plee". He's going to send me anything that
he has left. I'll post everything here just as soon as I get it. <excited>

Like information or..... hardware?

Great news - thanks for taking the time and effort to do it! I suspect that dial-in users are a minority, but as one of those folks, I really appreciate the chance to call in using my classic equipment.
Yeah, I was planning on applying awhile back, but I was also hoping to be able to contribute as a dial in number for them at the same time (because I wanted to fully contribute and because they would solve my problem of having to write software make a custom Telnet/Modem solution).... but since I haven't had time to set that up yet.....
I know the MagicJack plus works with modems because my Fidonet NC used it.. but that's not available anymore... anyone know how the MagicJack Go works with modems?
-
I saw that when I called too but didn't mention it since I didn't see it on the login list of BBSs in their network (and it didn't connect). I figured I'd ask him about whether it was a former or future one later on.
-
Maybe it's just me but that list seems really short... Kinda bums me out...

PS Thanks for maintaining the list Greg, much appreciated.
Looks like we missed one.

Attached is the Atari BBS List for 2017 as of today (December 31, 2016).
I've sent a copy to the Vintage Computer BBS List, and will also post on BBS Mates.
Happy New Year everyone!
Just a minor thing, but it's STar Fleet HQ (well, Headquarters is fine, but the ST in STar.... Atari homage).
And it still says "Last reported up August 8, 2014" in the notes....
But other than that, thank you for all you've done!

Funny thing is the most active vintage BBS I know (Particles, which is a Commodore BBS) isn't even on that list.

And when I say active, I'm talking about "you better call it daily, because they easily do 20-30+ local messages a DAY" kind of active.

Watched the (2 year old) trailer on YouTube. Looks a notch below the syndicated Action Pack TV shows from the early/mid 90s. (Think Hercules: The Legendary Journeys)
Caper Van Dien certainly looks the space piratey part. The rest of the trailer is laser sound effects and explosions.
Funny thing... I'm actually watching Hercules: The Legendary Journeys as I'm reading this.

Hey, it makes for good background noise. Though Xena is better. One thing I like about those types of shows..... Eyecandy.

And I think it's working well with 19200 with my MIO too. (But this version is supposed to support ANSI and I can't figure that out).
I don't know how "complete" my files are or if they're the latest. The Shadow unfortunately didn't have a copy anymore.
I plan to at least finish the screens next weekend, but I've been focusing on SFHQ lately (actually got 2 new callers today!!!!)
