Well, for this "Ultimate Quest" as I call it, I know I can't play all the classic RPG's out there.... My life expectancy just isn't that long and .... job... So I was going to start by playing the ones I actually have on hand (like with boxes and manuals). For Ultima 1, I only had a single disk (but it was an original, I got it in a lot of disks with an 800xl, but no manuals or box). 2-6 I have either from childhood or ebay on the A8 or ST. My brother got me 9 for christmas back in the day and I also bought the Ultima Collection for the PC back in the day which will cover the rest..... (as soon as I dig it out of the storage unit). After that, I have to see what I have laying around since half the time I got these games in lots and I don't know half the stuff I have.

I owned U2 (3 and 4) on the Atari 8-bit from back in the day, so that will probably be the way I go on that one. I got U5 and U6 for the ST on Ebay. I don't do emulation generally speaking.

There were subtle differneces in different versions. I started re-playing all of them recently and the Atari 8-bit version of Ultima 1 didn't do things exactly the same way (or even 100% the same way the documentation was laid out).

Are you talking about MichTron 3?

Will want at least 1

Just a quick update on the STar Fleet HQ "Update" (since I'm heading to work, more later). Things were bad trying to set up the CosmosEX... bad to the point where I thought I lost not only both of the BBS Hard drives and the "spare" replacement external HD I got for my TT. However, I moved everything over to the TT and was able to get it working with the CosmosEX and the main BBS drive seems to be ok for sure. The boot drive I'm not 100% sure about as it first didn't detect it, but then on the second reboot, detected it just fine. I am still in the process of doing the last of the backups on it (full entire backups of 2.5gb) and had to go to bed. It still seems to be going ok this morning so when I get home I'll back up the last partition and get back to the updates. Assuming that there is nothing wrong with the Mega STE and that the system just really didn't like the CosmosEX being on the SCSI chain with the drives on the ICD Link2, I should have it up with at least some of the improvements later in the evening and will have the BBS back up for business before I call it a night. (I'll finish the other major stuff next weekend).

If you're interested, since we're both from the Akron area, we could do the car pool thing..... I've done the Gencon trip a few times so it's nothing for me.
-
Did it allow for file sharing? I'll have to double check my old archives of stuff... but I could really use something like that.

Like information or..... hardware?

Yeah, I was planning on applying awhile back, but I was also hoping to be able to contribute as a dial in number for them at the same time (because I wanted to fully contribute and because they would solve my problem of having to write software make a custom Telnet/Modem solution).... but since I haven't had time to set that up yet..... I know the MagicJack plus works with modems because my Fidonet NC used it.. but that's not available anymore... anyone know how the MagicJack Go works with modems?

I saw that when I called too but didn't mention it since I didn't see it on the login list of BBSs in their network (and it didn't connect). I figured I'd ask him about whether it was a former or future one later on.

Looks like we missed one. ToXiC NiPPLE BBS bbs.retrohack.se:9001 Looks like it's just starting up so hopefully they'll get some attention.

Just a minor thing, but it's STar Fleet HQ (well, Headquarters is fine, but the ST in STar.... Atari homage). And it still says "Last reported up August 8, 2014" in the notes.... But other than that, thank you for all you've done!

Funny thing is the most active vintage BBS I know (Particles, which is a Commodore BBS) isn't even on that list. And when I say active, I'm talking about "you better call it daily, because they easily do 20-30+ local messages a DAY" kind of active.

Funny thing... I'm actually watching Hercules: The Legendary Journeys as I'm reading this. Hey, it makes for good background noise. Though Xena is better. One thing I like about those types of shows..... Eyecandy.

I want to try setting up an Atari BBS....

So the real question... what are you using for the Telnet on the A8 end? -
ICD MIO and Atari Mega60, SupraDrive
Tillek replied to Timothy Kline's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I actually got an SH204 (shoebox) working right now with my 800xl and ICD MIO. Basically, the ACSI goes into a small card/host adapter which then connects to a MFM controller with a 50 pin scsi ribbon cable (which then connects to the drives). If you plug the 50 pin cable from the mio to the mfm controller it works just fine. I'm sure the Supradrive works in a similar manner, but you'll know as soon as you open it up. The megafile might be more challenging though because (at least mine) seems to have it all on one controller board. I just wish I could get an updated rom so I could use drives with 512b/s -
Am I Dreaming or Just Mostly Brain Dead?
Tillek replied to DavidMil's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I wish..... I could barely remember what I ate for dinner last night let aline if the 800xl I gleefully opened 30 years ago had shrinkwrap or not. -
Yeah, I actually just figured that out now. Unfortunately, I see great frustration in the future as there is no way to let the users know they have to do that. But it works for me at least, so I'll help spread the word. Heck, maybe I'll even post it on my BBS since people have actually been calling lately. (I almost just hit /s to save..... I'm in the zone!)

Right now I'm getting a blank screen and after about 10 seconds, a dropped connection. (I tried it twice, then called a couple others and then tried again).

Getting back into Atari 800XL - Need some help.
Tillek replied to Hawk269's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
The big thing I ask is where you're located. If you live near someone else here willing to help that makes it easier. For do it yourself advice, http://www.atarimax.com/sio2pc/documentation/ People here will now hit you with a deluge of other options and have all the reasons in the world why their suggestion is the best, but that is the easiest I found, especially if you like to use real disks.... The software is worth the price. -
I want to try setting up an Atari BBS....

So which one was yours? Mine is in Fidonet too (1:2215/1701)... the last Atari still on Fidonet. -
What caused you to change (Atari/non-Atari) platforms?
Tillek replied to Xebec's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I've been using Kubuntu as well (well, I have a Windows as my main machine but that's mostly because I dev in C#/Asp.Net.Mvc for work). I'm thinking of switching my 'nix to Mint though. Something about that just seems right..... Mint on the nix, Mint on the TT, Mint on the Falcons.....
