|______ This guy knows how to paaarrrrrrr-ttttaaaaayyyyyyy!
(As I sit here finishing up making some A8 images for someone I don't even know......... Gotta "extensively" test the games to make sure they work).
-
I'm in Connecticut, 2 hours away from NY, 2 from Boston.
Sorry... I'm in NE Ohio.
-
Years ago I had 030 back in Europe. I remember it was running with no problems, my friend was using it for 1 year...
Recently, I brought it to US. I changed power supply from my working unit and... It gives me green noised screen when I turn it on. What could be wrong with it? Some capacitor?
Anybody knows where in US someone would be able to fix it?
P.S.
Damn it!
I guess as always the real question is where are you located?
If you're nearby someone with Falcon expertise, that could lead to a solution.
-
Damn. I just sent him a message too. I hope he's still around.

Ugh your right, i wasn't very clear. I meant minty referring to the color.
Not sure what you mean about badges though?
I mean, assuming you want to put the same upgrade in your 520 STE, pull the name badge off the 1040 top case and 520ste top case and switch them. that way you don't have to re-cut the case and the one you're selling won't have a "defect".
-
A nice "minty" one with a big hole cut in the side?
Consider replacing the name badges and swapping the top covers?
-
So, can anybody help me out on this? Again, live near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. But of course I will mail the disks anywhere.
Yeah.... go ahead and PM me what you need. Finally got the 1200xl set up on the new desk arrangement so I can handle that for you.
-
A few months ago I was able to obtain 100 5.25"floppy disks with two index holes.
That is something I really like for my XF551's.
Where? I could use some of those. Harder to find on Ebay.....
-
I had that exact same Nakamichi MBR-7 on my TT030 a while back, but sold it on ebay. If you open the case you might find the equivalent of a 5v/12v PC power supply. I would think it could be fixed.
I had actually been watching that one for awhile since you were not overly far from me.... but then alas, when I was just about ready... it sold.

But I got some of your other GFA basic stuff you had back then!
So instead, I ended up getting a 200 disk jukebox that hopefully I can get working on the BBS.
-
Well I did it, just accepted an offer on feebay for my 600XL...
It's in nice shape and all, extra memory and AV mod.. but with lack of space I had sat it on top of my Atari 800 and it was just in the way and I wasn't bothering using either.
And I have recently renewed my interest in model trains and figure I can spend the money there easily enough. I still have a XF551 for sale then ends in a bit, if the drive doesn't sell maybe i'll hold on to it a while more. who knows.. just babbling. I would like to say I'll miss the 600XL, but I really wasn't using it... So am i going to regret this? who knows... I'm babbling here...
Guess you're going to have to change your nickname now.....
*sighs*
-
I'm sorry that you are missing your stuff, but it's really not a good idea to resolve these issues in a public forum.
I would assume after 5 years it's a safe guess he's probably exhausted his other options, don't you think?????

Looking back at this, I have zero regrets with my purchase. The STacy is such a great machine to have in a collection.
Yeah, I can't wait to do more with mine. Maybe some serious modding... Maybe put in that battery that Atari could never get working... Maybe a color LCD screen?

Where are you located?
Yeah... It might be a bit more helpful if you told people where you are. (In my case, I live near Stephen so if you're in NE Ohio, you're covered... Otherwise, hopefully someone else will be nearby who could help.

OK I was able to call out but Ive got not a thing to access.

Well, that's the problem. Most of the BBS's are on Telnet now-a-days. Even the retro ones (I have a Lantronix box on mine which fools the computer into thinking it's a modem when it's really on telnet). I think all the other real-hardware Atari BBS's are on them too. The emulated ones are also telnet.
That link I posted might help you hook up to those if it works. (I haven't tried it yet).
Another option is to go to www.filegate.net which (among other things) has the latest FidoNet nodelist. Some of the systems still use modems and you can probably get a BBS or two to call from that. But otherwise, I'd highly recommend a Lantronix MSS-100 (best choice since it understands domain names) or a UDS-10 or UDS-1100 (you'll have to get the actual IP address the domain name points to). It will attach to the serial port just like a modem, but instead of dialing xxx-xxx-xxxx you dial xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and you're attached to a BBS through telnet.
At any rate, the BBS thread in the 8-bit section might offer you more help since it discusses both 8-bit and 68k BBS issues there. It's pinned to the top so it's easy to find.
-
The real question is where you can find BBS's that are still on dial-up. Even the Atari BBS's are all telnet as far as I know.
But as I posted on the BBS thread, one of the first messages I got now that the FidoNet feed was fixed was one about something someone is setting up where people with modems can dial in and access telnet BBS's.
http://atariage.com/forums/topic/174831-atari-8-bit-related-bbss/?p=3600678
-
So I finally got back to getting my FidoNet messages on the BBS (the regional coordinator was having major problems and getting the telnet feed working was lower priority since I might be the only one still using it).
One of the messages that came through was about a dial-in project some guy is starting where people with old school modems can "dial in" to telnet BBS's. At this time it looks like they have Finland and Romania dial in numbers but it looks like some US people are thinking about setting one up (might look into that magic jack myself since my FidoNet NC was using it and said it worked fairly well for him).
Anyway, it seems we've come full circle.
SIMNET is a pun on (Simulated) Tymnet - basically we're trying to set up
dial-in access points that will enable old-skool modem users to access
Telnet BBSes via access points across the globe.
Want your telnet BBS to have (eventually a bunch of) dial up numbers
across the globe?
Send me an email to [email protected] with "SIMNET node application" as the
subject with the following details:
- BBS code (the user types this in to connect to your BBS, up to 8
alphanumeric
letters/digits)
- BBS name and description
- Telnet address and port
In the following format:
<CODE>|<name and description of the system>|<address of the system>|<port>
e.g.
B4BBS|B4BBS - Yesterday's technology today!|b4bbs.sampsa.com|23
(The separator is a pipe symbol ["|"] and none of the fields should obviously
contain that or it'll bork the script)
Becoming an access point

I got two perfectly working Falcons, the second came with a bunch of other accessories (including a DAT backup drive and monitor). I paid in the $400's for the lone Falcon and about $1200 for the package. Plus, just to be mindful of this, they are both 220volt 50mhz UK Falcons (Not just because of the Keyboard, but the sticker on the bottom), not the 117v 60mhz American ones (and I noticed you were from CA). Not that this is a deal breaker if you know what you're doing, but if you are looking for your first Falcon and a plug-n-play experience, this might not be for you.
I think if you hold out, you'll find something more fitting and in a more reasonable price range.

Guys I have a modded 1200XL from Steve at Atarimax and a Happy 1050. I recently purchased "working" 1050's from a warranted ebay seller. When I plug them in they both say boot error. I contacted the seller and he sent me another unit so I could send this one back... same issue... says boot error.
Any ideas? my Happy 1050 obviously works... using the same sio cable and power supply... even swapped power supplies ...same issue. Is there something proprietary with Steve's Modded 1200XL?
Thanks in advance.
I bought one of those off him too with the exact same mods. Haven't had any problems with my stock XF551's or Indus GT's. When I first set it up, I was running 2 Indus GT's and 2 XF551's and all of them worked great.
-
Suggest these mods minus the unneeded cables
http://www.atarimax.com/forsale/index.html
Add an SIO2SD and you have everything covered for a 1200XL upgrade
Well, one of my 1200xls came that way since I bought it from Steve Tucker... For the other, I want to go a little more powerful (and I think Kavik does too)....
-
I'm interested in this too. I've been almost in the same boat. I've been collecting for a long time but never (until recently) lived in a place where I had the space to set up my collection.
I have 2 1200xls (among many others) so I was considering a U1mb, VBXE, (I already have SIO2PC, so was probably going to stick with that)... a MyIDE for the HD solution... I really want a real HD in there.... it's just my way.....
I'd really like to look into the 4mb upgrade I've heard about, but if that won't work with the Ultimate1mb, I guess that's ok. I have a couple MIO's, but if I used a MyIDE I guess I'd be ok (and use the MIO for the 800xls).
I really want to turn one of the 1200xl's into the ultimate A8 for development and get an 800 (don't have one yet) with an Incognito that hooks up to the big screen for gaming (got a 130xe for this now). My personal "from when I was a kid" 800xl is slated for a special BBS project.
The nice thing about the 1200... lots of space in the case.
Anyway... Hoping to get good suggestions too.

Is that a dark grey falcon next to it?

I for one would never be caught dead declaring the ST was just "one step closer to generic PCs".

Well, maybe in the way that walking up each stair on a staircase is "one step closer to the moon".

and this defintiley isnt my first post on atari age.. ive been lurking here for more then 10 years.. and i have plenty more to post soon.. =) just may be my first post in the ST section.
Well, in case that was a response to what I wrote, that wasn't what I meant. I meant on YOUR forums you need to post. Trolls will post useless "FIRST!" posts. Other people will feel weird about it. Making some posts to start some conversations should be a priority.
Plus, the button leading to the forums says something about a cartridge archive.

Yeah, I have my dad's original 800xl (the first computer our family ever owned) plus mine..... and I bought it lots of friends. I still have my original ST's too (along with all their friends).
I never got around to playing with my STacy much.... planning some upgrades at some point but at this point I think my project wish list is going to take three lifetimes to complete.
