  1. Ah ... now I see the Windows XP version later on (only saw the Mac version earlier ...). I'll try that and see what damage I can do.

I did also spent couple of hours to correctly set up the environemt :-)

start from scratch and follow instruction, it will works

I try to push any newbie to spend some effort on making the game Kaboom: this one is not a huge project and allow you to learn on background and sprites.. it should be very much compliant with the p-machinery concept and if you succeed to make a scheleton it could be completed by an expert just like Colossal in my personal experience....

it would also be published in cart for sure when finished!

of corse is just a suggestion

You are way over estimating my abilities! I'll think for now I'll be happy playing around and seeing what the system can do and what I can even manage to do with it ...

  2. Victory is mine ... for some reason I was missing the cart.mac and the randfast.asm files. I went to Intelliwiki and downloaded the source code, made the files and placed them in the proper folders. From there, I ran the build.bat and was error free! Opened up the emulator and run the pmach-test.rom and got the title screen as expected.

Thanks for the start and your patience ... I'll look at all of the documentation and get playing around and see what I can break!

  3. OK. I setup my Environment Variables and ran it and still came up with 40 errors. After downloading the pause.asm and added it to the library, my error count went down to 39 where I'm currently stuck.

When I type in the AS1600 and JZINTV, I get the correct responses.

Any idea on the 39 errors ... is that files that I'm missing or potentially have mapped incorrectly in the environment variables?

  4. Thanks for the direction.

I'm using Windows and I downloaded the latest versions. I've used the as1600 stuff before with the tutorials and have assembled before ... but I'm having a problem running the build.bat. It runs (after I copied the as1600 files to the pmach directory) but I get 101 errors. I'm assuming that the build should create the rom file that I can run using the jzIntv Emulator, correct?

I've attached the error. Any idea what I screwed up ... :?

Disclaimer: at any point in time that I become a nuisance, please feel free to ignore me and move on with life.

  5. OK ... I'm not a programming genius (I know some minor basics and I'm very comfortable with computers) but would like start playing around with the idea of doing some minor programming for the Intellivision. I've downloaded some demo programs and played around with them, understanding enough to change the Psycho bouncing balls into X's and other minor, silly things. My first question would be ... where would you recommend a novice start? I was thinking that I'd like to understand how to draw the background (art entertains me) and how to create a MOB (I believe that's the term for a moving sprite?) Even just to make a small mini moving scene would be the coolest thing ...

Any direction would be appreciated. I've seen the work that you guys do here and it is inspiring! Keep up the great homebrews!

  6. After viewing your Great Wall of text, it is obvious that i will never in my lifetime program a game. i appriciate all you guys that DO make games though!

That's not text, nor is it any special coding; that's just the graphics. Each "." represents a blank pixel, and each "#" represents a coloured pixel. Those are 14 tiles of 8x8 pixels, each one representing a frame of animation.

Programming a game is hard, but it is really not impossible--as long as you want to learn.

I know that I've learned it is much more attainable than I originally thought. For a large part of my life I thought making a game in Assembly Language was the exclusive domain of geniuses and demigods. I used to dream of someday meeting one of these masters, never feeling worthy enough to reach their level.

I've since discovered that us mere mortals can and do make games, if we learn the tricks of the trade, and are willing to put in the hard work.

You never know until you try. :)

    -dZ.

The game looks fantastic ... as I've mentioned before, these in between scenes really add a lot to the game. Can't wait to see the box cover and overlays (which there will be, right?)!

  7. Sigh ... so much anger on this forum!

I for one am happy to see new games coming out for the system that I love. I already own Donkey Kong from Intellivision.us. I'm happy with that release and will keep it but I also plan on buying the D2K when it comes out soon. I have NO plans on buying the re-release of D1K as I already own it (I don't collect variations, but understand that obsession).

From what I gather on my occasional trolling on the forums (and I could be wrong) is that there is some animosity between Intellivision.us and Games for your Intellivision. Personally, I'd advise both parties to leave that animosity off of the boards and take the high road. Both companies are doing what they can to promote the system that I grew up with so let's leave it at that.

Just my 2 cents. (hey, if they decide to get rid of the penny here is the US, will I need to change that expression to "just my 5 cents?")

  8. I really love the in between game level videos (saw some others in older posts as well). Reminds me of pacman between scenes with a small movie to entertain you. It's attention to details like this that, in my opinion, take a game from being good, to being a classic! I really like the look of the game and can't wait to see it come out.

  9. Hoping someone here may be able to assist with an Amiga project! I'm trying to test some old Amiga computers, however, I don't have the right kind of cable in the 10 or so boxes of Commodore/Amiga stuff that I bought to hook up to the monitor that came with it!

The monitor is a 1084S-P. Picture attached of the back attached ...

    I have a 500, 1200 and a 2000 Amiga to try to hook up.

Does anyone know what cable I need and where I might be able to find one?

    Thanks so much!!!

  10.   Awesome! I might now be brave enough to try opening the controllers on one of my dead INTVs. Are you going to do a full system disassembly and cleaning in the future....I would like see that too please. :)

I'd have thought you to be a master of all that is Intellivision by now! I've already done a teardown of all my IntV's, so unless I get another console, probably not. (hint hint :P)

I have the handyman skills of a dishcloth! :P Im going to send a unit or two to pimpmaul for modding, maybe I will send you one or two to play around with as well. I did a count last night and I am slightly embarassed to say that I think I may have......75 Intellivisions. :-o :-o :-o (and somehow my wife hasnt divorced me)

Your wife is a keeper! I have only four and she's sharpening pencils for signing. (of course, I recently brought home an Amiga 2000HD, Amiga 1200, Amiga 500, 3 Commodore 64's and drives, A Vic-20, 3 Timex Sinclair 1000's, TI-99, Commodore 4 Plus, A Socrates game system, and four large boxes of games, disks and misc ... that might be more the reason!)

  11. The removal was eBay's doing (nothing in her completed listings and the entire post is gone, not just ended early). When you list to video games now, eBay REQUIRES you to indicate the game from their selection of games, if you don't sometimes they get pissed and delete your posting.

Not like anything like that has ever happened to me before :ponder:

BTW, the stack is back on eBay.

  12. :ponder: For that price you could have your own Inty game programmed

    I'm listening..... :ponder:

Interesting idea ... what would it be worth to someone to have their own personal game commissioned? Would you pay $2000 to a programmer to design "Adventures in Cmart Land!"

I can see the advertising now:

Immortalize yourself as YOU become the main character in a brand new, state of the art, Intellivision game. Save the day ... save the damsel in distress (either your wife or your mistress, you decide!). But watch out for your evil enemy (send pictures of your mother in law or whoever!).

    Yours today for only $2000!
