  1. "Everybody knows ... that the world is full of stupid people".

Craigslist postings from a single, crazy person:

Atari Games (including a loose ET for $300) - http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/vgm/5410747824.html

Sega Genisis (his spelling, not mine) for $200 - http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/vgm/5410756211.html

    Nintendo 64 (price FIRM!!!) for $300 - http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/vgm/5413411827.html

Sega Games (including a loose Quack Shot for $120) - http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/vgm/5410770481.html

  2. Apologies ... I don't often enter the Colecovision forums and now I'm asking for help pricing something.

Hate being THAT guy but if anyone has advice on price, I'd appreciate.

I have a Colecovision Expansion Module 3 complete with the printer, computer unit, keyboard, plastic tray that holds the unit and a Colecovision together and the plastic tray for the controller (I think). Hooked it up to my Colecovision and was able to power it up and test the keyboard using the Adam Typewriter function. Unable to test the cartridge bay as I don't have a Colecovision cassette tape. Cartidge bay looks good (to my untrained eye). Definitely has yellowing but otherwise seems ok.

Any ideas what I should ask for this thing? Any way to test the cassette tape deck without a Colecovision tape?

  3. Like our leaders keep saying.... get out and vote!

Biases are fine, and if you've only played a few of them, and like one the best, go for it. Nobody expects everyone to try all the games for hours, then critically examine each one given a number of categories, and logically picking the correct answer. Just pick your favorite.

    Amen!

I hate when we try to take a fun hobby and make it something stressful! Play the games, enjoy them and vote for your favorite.

  4. Also, I disagree with your comment about Piggy Bank's replayability. I think it is a lot of fun and can see myself playing it in the future.

Actually, I don't think that he was saying anything about the replay-ability (sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth, First Spear) but I thought that he was saying that, if showing off the system to someone else, you'd likely pull out Ms. Pac-man. That's not necessarily saying anything about how FUN either game is ... it's more a statement to pulling in a non-Intellivision fan to the system through something visually familiar and pleasing which Ms. Pac-man is.

By the votes, I think that much of the community is saying that they love unique games. Personally, as impressive as Ms. Pac-man is (and may still get my vote), it's not the only copy of the game that I have. Piggy Bank, as a fun, unique title, gets some bonus points.

Personally, I will always prefer a unique title over a port.

  5.

Hover Bovver is a definite for this year. It isn't being completed as fast as we hoped but steady progress is being made. I expect a late summer release.

Defender of the Crown should be nominally complete by the end of February and we then have 5 months of tweaking and bug testing set aside to polish the game. The overlay is yet to be designed and the manual is about to be started.

I expect DOTC to ship in July and that is all we have planned for Elektronite at this time. Nothing further is in development.

The boxes for each of these games will print as soon as the design of a non-Elektronite game box is completed. I am not allowed to reveal the game but it is another title that I expect will ship late in the year according to the publisher. It is not an Elektronite game.

Shut up ... just shut up.

You had me at Defender of the Crown.

  6.

I doubt we ever see those published

Unless you're the publisher, I don't see any reason for you to announce that they're not being published.

One person has that ability, and until I hear Groovy announce that he's not publishing it, I take him at his word that it will be.

  7. Submitting my final score of the year ... with the holidays approaching and a trip to commemorate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary, my time to play is done for the year. Enjoyed one last game for 2015.

Good luck to everyone in the competition! Thanks again to Dz for hosting the tournament and creating a great game!

Wishing all of you a healthy and very Merry Christmas!!!

  8. I've never really figured out if Eric was truly annoyed or if all this is just playful banter ... if it's not "playful banter", then it just needs to stop.

Personally, I fought with the addiction to own every game and won. I've started to become more selective about what I buy. While I have pride and enjoy seeing them on my shelf, I have found that my time to play them is getting less and less.

There are some that I'll buy immediately (Hello, Defender of the Crown) and others I may sit back and wait or never buy (Number Jumble). We'll see where the finances take me.

  9. JJ was in a no win situation of sorts.

Use too much of original trilogy and it makes it not new.

Use too much actual new stuff and its not star wars enough.

I liked it. Sometimes more of the same is a good thing.

Lets just be glad we didn't have 2 more hours of Jar Jar Binks and pod racing. I swear I would of walked out of the theatre if that happened.

^ This ^. There was a part of me that wanted something groundbreaking. That didn't happen ... but it WAS a Star Wars movie and entertained me the entire time. I think that he needed to re-establish the Star Wars theme, re-energize the fans from the prequels, and then launch into some new story territory with the next two. Although, if they want to rehash the Jabba slave girl scene with Rey, that would be just fine with me :ponder: . Very impressed with JJ with his work on this AND the new life that he breathed into Star Trek as well. He's right up there with Joss Whedon as those who can do no wrong in my book ...

Ranked it behind the original and ROTJ but slightly better than Empire Strikes Back (although Hoth and the AT-AT Walkers is still my favorite scene of the entire series).

Different question, who was everyone's favorite NEW character? I thought Poe was a fun character that I hope gets more screen time later but Rey was my favorite.

    • Avoid the center platforms; there is a split level in there that helps the Snowman be able to switch directions and get on your tail.
    • If you must enter the center platforms, stay close to the tunnels and flip back and forth to make sure you are always in the opposite side of the Snowman. Then, when the coast is clear, dash in, pick up whatever, and return to the tunnel!

Yep ... the center is where you get into trouble! I like to shoot through the tunnel first just to get to the present on the right and leave that snowflake there for later when I need it!

This is one of the levels that if the ghost does get you, you can still survive if you are PATIENT. Don't freak out if the ghost gets you, just avoid the snowman and dart in and out of the tunnel, picking up presents one or maybe two at a time. I get into trouble when I rush and/or panic over the ghost!

  10. for me candy cove is still the worst. I play 3-4 times up to level 5-6 and get my butt kicked on it then i get pissed off and restart. Then i play a game where it doesnt kill me or repeatedly take my presents and i move on.

Edit: i went through all my posts and candy cove is definitely my achilles heel.

There is no "cure" for Candy Cove, but I'll share my plan for what it's worth:

Go immediately through the tunnel to the left and start in the upper right hand corner. Grab BOTH presents making sure to leave to leave the FIRST snowflake to cover your exit. Grab that exit snowflake on your way out and run straight down grabbing the present below on your way to the present/snowflake in the lower right hand corner. After grabbing that, take the right side tunnel and pick up the present/snowflake at the bottom left then, right above, grab the present and THEN the snowflake (unless someone is on your heels then hit the snowflake first). That snowflake is your ticket up to the upper left chamber. Immediately grab that snowflake and the remaining presents.

This strategy doesn't get you a lot of points, but Candy Cove is legendary for being a multi-life losing level ... if that ghost hits you near the end, you can easily loose three or four lives trying to navigate that level without snowflakes to cover your exits.

  11. Hopefully Dave, you already know my response to if we need new games.

Baseball is my favorite game ever ... a new, faster version would be awesome.

And Mystic Castle might be worth buying for some beautiful artwork on the cover. And yeah, an ending would be sweet ... always nice to have that final sense of achievement.

Always good to see you on the forums ...
