  1. P.S. I registered for TAEX yesterday, but the admin has not activated my account. I registered after JagChris left an invitation of sorts in the Jaguar Sector. ;D

That wasn't me. That was my evil twin. I can't be held responsible for anything that crackpot does. I am the unfortunate vicitm of vicious rumors and gossip! :x

  2. Guys, guys. Who cares how he wants to do it? He's here showing an interest in doing it at least. The alternatives have been pointed out to him.  He's aware of them.  He appears to know what he is doing.

Let's all just shake his hand and welcome him to the community and assist him in any way he needs. Then let us step back and let him do his thing.  :D

Our point is that if he's going to be doing stuff we want to (eventually! :))see results, and I for one would rather not see these results 6 months later than we otherwise might, purely because of his insistance on developing in an entirely perverse manner...I'm just impatient and greedy ;)

He's more than welcome to the community, but a certain amount of experience comes with us having hung around here far too long, and we were asked to share it, after all :D

    Stone

Well, if we keep pestering him, he is going to get irritatd and split. And then we won't see ANY results. ANYTIME. EVER. :(

  4. To clarify an earlier post by someone else, which was totally inaccurate, you do NOT need an alpine board, which is a very expensive bit of kit.

Who said he needed an Alpine?

  5. As I said earlier, I have no plans to modify the Jaguar, but thank you for the suggestions. I'm not very serious about Jag development, yet. Last game I played was Bubsy, about 6 or 7 years ago. Hated it, to be honest. But Jag has a lot of potential. I have several years of programming experience with many, many languages. So I'm definitely up for it..

Not quite sure how you are going to even tinker with programming/developing for the Jag without J.U.G.S. or modifying your Jag if you don't have an Alpine.

Thats a decent price for Jag and CD combo you won. Enjoy Doom. In some ways its still the best version. If you're interested, do a search on this forum for the DOOM threads. There is a couple that discuss the attempts at optimizing it for the Jaggy.

Have fun. Welcome to the community. :)

  6. been working at ubisoft in sf for about two years now, i'll see what i can dig up for you guys

WHAT????? YOU WORK WHERE??? HOW IN THE HELL LONG HAVE WE BEEN HOLDING BACK THIS INFORMATION!?!?!?! :o :o :o

  7. Those are decent prices for those games. But I know, you wouldn't pay a nickel for the whole lot. This gets tiresome.

Holy fluck, why do you hang around if you dislike the Jag so?

You must be the one who's selling them at those prices. I got ultra vortek for like 10 bucks with box and instructions and AVP for 11 or 12 buck for the cart and box.

Since I think the prices are reasonable I must be the one selling them huh? BZZZZZZT! WRONG!

  9. Not that the frame rate is bad with the textures on. It does pretty well for a first gen Jag racer, and I love the game. And I state so in my most humble review on TAEX. Well, I think its the first attempt by those programmers on the Jag.

Sorry about the double post, but I'm powerful afraid of using the 'edit' button on this board.

  10. I played the hell out of that game. Toggling the textures on/off to me seemed like they were trying to speed things up by allowing that option. But I swear to god I have never noticed a difference in speed. And I've really looked for it a million times. Doesn't mean there isn't one. Just means I didn't notice it. Maybe I am going blind. :?

  11. Since you have never played WTR though, here's something that works on F1 too, which will smooth out that frame rate a bit; press the "8" key on the keypad to remove the road texturing ( in WTR it is the opposite, you press "8" to GET the T-mapping on the roadway).

Really? In my version(which is now broke. :( ) hitting 8 toggles texture mapping on/off. And on mine it seemed to make absolutely no difference in speed or framerate. :?

  12. Although I've heard this before, I've never seen any firm proof that Sony paid off Ubi Soft to delay the game. The "official" story back then was that the Jaguar version was ready back in July 1995, but there was some sort of production snag, and this pushed it back two months.

Production snag=Sony has given us $$$$ to hold off production. Do I have proof? No. But I wouldn't put it past them.

I don't think this delay made a major difference in the grand scheme of things. The PlayStation version only beat the Jaguar version to market by a mere four days. That's not enough time to really change people's minds on a system, particularly when you consider that at that time, Rayman was still a new and unproven game that practically no one outside of the hardcore Jaguar community knew about.

In a just world the PS version wouldn't have come anywhere close to coming out first. If the game had been released a year earlier on the Jag, a lot of people would not have wanted to wait that long for it to come out on the PSX and would have bought Jags to play it. Yes it would of made a difference in the grand scheme of things. Would it of saved Atari and the Jag? I don't know. I doubt it. But it would of made a difference.

  13. hi... i know this is kinda off-topic, but i registered to TAEX about two weeks ago and whenever i log in (which works, btw) i seem to be unable to post a topic.....

has anyone an idea why this might be so???

    creekree

You probably haven't paid your dues. Those of us who post have to send JaySmith gifts of pretty trinkets and baubles every couple weeks or he won't let us post. :( :P

  14. I think I read about it at The Atari Times, but I could be mistaken. Its been a while. Although this is just what I've heard, and I kind of tend to believe it, since I remember that era quite well, and the Jag version was done WAY before the PS version was.

  15. Its a damn good game. I've been working on trying to beat it as well. I"m up to 80% found or something. But I've been neglecting it lately. :(

Another platformer I like on the Jag is Pitfall:The Mayan Adventure. Has anyone found all the secrets on this without cheating?

  16. Scrummy, rules!  :lolblue:

I haven't seen one of your "classic posts" in quite some time.

This thread is definitely making it into my All Time Greats folder.. 8)

Archive that baby Saturn! It's pure gold! :D
