  1. I am thinking of building some 5200 cartridge shelving

But I want to get some ideas on what people would like to see

in a perfect collection rack unit

First thing I would like to do is make them expandable to reach up to

the exact number of games that can be collected for the console

How many is that up to now with all the new homebrews included?

I want to get an idea of how to divide a shelving unit into sections

based on the number of slots I would need to complete the collection

If anyone has pictures of there own shelving or collection storage

I would love to see it

or if you have links to pictures of storage units made for Atari carts or colecovision

I would love to see it

Who on here has a complete 5200 collection ?

someone should post a youtube video like this guy

    but featuring there 5200 collection

  2. I saw this on another forum I am on

the Akai MPC Forum and it provided hours of viewing

Basically everyone post your favorite 5200 videos that are on youtube

or other websites that provide video

I do not know if this has been posted on here

but I am going to start it off with this video

    hopefully everyone will post more

and maybe be encouraged to make there own

of there collection and 5200 inovations and discovery

Although I find James amusing, I view his video on the 5200 as very short-sighted....

    Yeah it is

I mean he does not mention a lot of great things about it

but when I saw this for the first time it really made me laugh

because it was like an exact recount of what I went through to get mine working

I mean I love my 5200 and sing its praise

but you have to admit he makes some true points here about the system

and from what I get from this I bet he loves the system in one way or another

Although I am not on a first name basis with him like you are

But you are missing the point of this post

you are supposed to post 5200 youtube clips

or any other web video that features the 5200

  4. I have read about it and I understand its just a song on a cart

there was a clip of it up somewhere on a website but the clip would not play on my mac

So is that all there is to this cart?

    Its just one song ?

and the cart is a disco ball

    wtf?

Does it ever show up on ebay ?

that being said I was also wondering about the 5200 chess game?

    is that common?

  5. He's just fishing for high offers in all likelihood.

Not the first one he's sold on eBay, though it's been a while since the last.

(And no, the last one didn't fetch $750.)

that's whack then if he is trying to jack people

I mean homebrews are cool and deserve a little bit of money

but to me the whole joy of collecting for old systems is

the fact that the games are cheap

  6. Very nice!

Strange that it's a 4-port but it shows a 2-port on the box... I could see if it was the other way around :P

The original 5200 box was the wide one.

In 1985-86, the Tramiels started blowing out old video game stock they inherited from Warner. In doing so, they had all three game systems in stores at one point: the 2600 Jr., the 5200, and the 7800. However, when they started dumping the 5200, they redesigned the box so that it was much smaller than the original (to keep shipping and logistics costs down).

The redesigned 5200 packaging differed in a few key ways:

    1) The pack-in cart did not come in its own box

    2) The controllers were shipped in the 5200's controller storage area, instead of separately

    3) The pack-in cart was Super Breakout (as it had originally been) instead of Pac Man

What's interesting is that most of the 5200 systems they shipped this way were four-port models with the automatic switch box. This suggests that when Atari decided to move to the 2-port model in 1983, they must have still had a stock of 4-port models which they suspended shipping. Presumably, they did this because the 4 port models were incompatible with the 2600 adapter, and consequently, the planned Slam Pam adapter would have likely been incompatible too. By minimizing the number of 4-port models on the market, I think Warner Atari envisioned a smoother upgrade path to the 7800. 2600 users would simply replace their console with a 7800, while 5200 users would buy a Slam Pam. Of course, your 5200 had to be Slam Pam compatible for that to work, and that meant a 2-port unit was required.

I actually bought two 5200s (which I still own). The first was purchased in 1983, and it was a 2-port model that came in the huge box. In 1985, I purchased another 5200 in the smaller box. Why? Well, I figured that for $50 (that's what the one in the small box cost), I got two more controllers (can't have too many of those), a new game (Super Breakout was new to me, at least, as my other unit shipped with Pac Man), and I had access to spare parts (including a replacement power supply, if needed).

Upon returning from the store, I was quite surprised to discover that my new unit was actually a 4-port with the automatic switch box. These days, the automatic switch box is often derided, but I adored it. In 1985, it was a real novelty to be able to switch from the TV to the game system simply by hitting the power button on the 5200. The automatic switch box also yielded a far superior picture to the image delivered by my mechanical switch RF switch. Suffice it to say, that to this day, my favorite 5200 is my shiny 4-port model that came in the small box.

I like my 4 port too

    The only thing that sucks

is that I really want to use the vcs adapter

and you can not use it on the 4 port

there is a mod that can be done but it seems way to advanced for me

anyone want to take a stab at doing it to my second 4 port 5200?

I really wanna play the synthcart and bombjack on my 5200

  7. It's a Toshiba FST Blackstripe

It is starting to have some problems

It is a great tv for gaming though

I kept it so long because it has 3 inputs for tv video two on the back

and one in the front and on the front it has audio and video out

Which is great for me because I make music and sample a lot off my tv

One of the things I use to justify buying games and stuff for my old systems

is the plans to sample old games

This also validates spending the whole day playing atari or colecovision

not to mention when I get the snyth carts for both

    Anyway

with the Play station I get some weird line on the top of the tv

    Like bad v hold

but the v hold knob does not fix it

I am thinking its that section of inputs

    because the gamecube looks perfect

    Could also be bad wires

    My nes needs new wires

If this tv starts to go I think it is worth fixing

I want to mod those speakers on the shelf above the tv and use them for sound

Yes the tv has output for speakers

It was a great tv for its day

It even has a port for hooking up a cpu

I wonder if I could use that port to hook up my atari 1040st or 520

    Thanks for the props

Who in NY wants to have a 5200 party ?

Sweet. 20" right? Is it from 83?

    I think its a 20"

and I do think its from 83

    Here is a revised pic

with all my systems controllers displayed

I can not wait to get sega genesis controllers for my coleco

cause the games are unplayable with the coleco controller

    Q bert in particular !

  8. Just a small update, Dave is still working on C&D. He's be really busy with his job lately, but he's going to start working on C&D more often now. I'll post more news when I have it.

    Tempest

Please tell him about including the secret plans at the end of the game

and a pixel image of the fat guy in the movie in the game store

  9. Like Adventure II, this'll be worth the wait.

The ultimate 5200 UFO, 24 years in the works?...Absolutely incredible! I wanted this when I was 11, but the thought of finally getting a near arcade perfect, expertly progammed cart(by the original programmer) with an actual box and book like the movie, is way more exciting now.

    ---still stunned & half speechless...:ahoy:

    wow this is awesome

I can not wait to buy a C&D Cart for my 5200

can you please please put secret plans at the end of the cart

or maybe in an easter egg

Also can a beared fat guy get shot in the eye like mo green

in the back of a video game store

Also Please have the elevator screens

How many times have you rewound the scenes in the game store

and wished you could go back in time into that store

and Buy up every cart in that store

This forum is quickly becoming my bearded fat guy in the back of the gamestore

    taking apart my C&D cart

I hope it don't get shot though

I do not want it to die

  10. I want to go on record myself that I would be ALL IN on buying a Cloak and Dagger cartridge! I mean, how could I not? That's just one of those great things from childhood. I was kind of on the young side when the movie came out (7 or 8 I think?), but even then I got the BIGGEST kick out of that movie, and was so bummed when I couldn't actually play the game!

On a slight side note, talk about 'the more things change, the more they stay the same'! Get a load of this: got up this morning and my 2 1/2 year old says she wants to see me 'play ghosts, Daddy!'. 'Ghosts' is what she calls Pac-Man (though usually refering to the Championship Edition on my 360, cause she gets into the music on it too). So, I play Pac-Man for a while. Then we turn the game off and turn the TV on, so she can get some cartoon time in. What did we watch on CBS? Care Bears. That ended at 7:30 (about 15 minutes ago). Now what are we watching? Strawberry Shortcake.

Seriously, what year am I living in? I just want to make sure that I didn't get caught in a time rift or something. Er, other than the fact that I'm on a computer that probably would've rivled NASA 25 years ago :)

You should have watched the pac man cartoon with her

  11. but after reading this thread I am thinking

    should I get a WICO?

I have 3 WICO joysticks with 2 Y-cables and 1 keypad, all came with my system. Totally worth it if you can get a good deal on them. I had my 5200 setup at a convention 2 weekends ago, switching between my WICO joystick/keypad combo and the trac-ball controller for various games was fun and some enjoyed it. It's sad how little appreciation goes into these rigs even with great gameplay is to be had.

Ok you know my next question right .........

    Where can I get one?

What's the best source online besides ebay ?

It would be nice to just buy it and not have to bid

  12. Ripped from the 2600 forum, which was ripped from the Jaguar forum. ;)

Here is my former 5200 collection. Sold 'em all when I moved to TX from NH. :(

    Here is my set up

5200 is by far my favorite

    My Gaming Spot

Nice....What kind of monitor or tv is that?

    It's a Toshiba FST Blackstripe

  14. where can i get one and how does it work?

I been thinking about purchasing the Multi Cart 4jays is selling for 145 bucks

Was also going to send them two of my old broke 5200 Controllers to fix

but after reading this thread I am thinking

    should I get a WICO?

Last question what is the Best Multi Cart to buy ?

  15. Firstly Hello all

I used to post on this board and somehow all my old posts are gone

I recently moved all my game systems to my recording studio's Lounge

and will post a pic soon

In the past few weeks I got classic video game fever again

Due to setting up a Colecovision from my attic and being thrilled that just some windex got all these games for coleco working again.

The system could use some more cleaning though.I saw a guy on youtube use metal glo on a Sega System but went looking for metal glo last night at home depot

and they looked at me like I was nuts or trying to make crystal meth or huff it in a bag that would be more retro right.Anyhow that is not the point of this post

Point is playing coleco got me playing the 5200 again and I really feel like doing a few things. One sending two controllers to 4jays to be rebuilt and two buy a vcs adapter

so I can play 2600 games and the snyth cart most of all.But I have a 4 port 2 for port systems actually.I was thinking of trying to mod my 2nd four port so i can use the vcs adapter

Does anyone know how to do that? Anyone offer a service where they do it for you?

Has anyone on here modded there 4 port so they can use the adapter and has anyone then used the atari synth cart with that set up?

    Please let me know

  16. no

i was not aware of that

    whats it called?

    this would suit my purposes

    if my colecovision was working

for some reason it does not stay in color

and alot of the carts crap out in the middle of game play

and im dying to play smurfs

my 5200 is in top shape

    though

thats why i wish there was a drum machine cart for it

  18. OK

    This seems cool

    but i dont use windows

    i use a Mac G4

    and also

i want to have a drum machine cartridge made for the 5200

sorta like the way nanoloop is used on a gameboy

    is there anything like that?

will one of you make something like that ?

then give me one for free cause i gave you the idea?

    :D

  19. With the discovery of nanoloop for Gameboy

i cant get enough of that 8 bit Beat

does anyone know if there is such a thing as a drum machine cart for the 5200

    and if there is not

can one of you peoples get to work on one

  20.

im sad to hear that i can not get a mutlicart

after all of you pretty much saying there the bomb

and one of you mentioned a colecovision mutli cart

i have a colecovision that is doing weird things

not sure if i should bother with it

    im pretty content with

    5200

    NES

    dreamcast

    and ps2

    why mess with another console

alltho i do enjoy playing the smurfs on colecovision

would anyone know if there are any music carts made for the 5200

like the nanoloop for the gameboy classic

    :?:
