  1. I will have to dig up the Happy Computer Magazines. I can remember there was a discussion about this in the past. In the upcoming weeks I am going to my storage and do some householding there. My magazines are stored there, so then I will look it up.
  2. Speaking of hints and tips. What I do is this. Especially on the higher levels (from round 8 and up, where the bases do defend themselves with missiles)... I shoot the two cannons that are on one side of where the missile is coming out. That makes it much easier to shoot the base from the missile side. On lower rounds this is also a good idea. Sometimes you want to demolish the base as soon as possible (in case of "RED!") and then it is handy that you already shot these two cannons.
  3. My wrist hurts as never before... but it was worth it haha. Colors went amazingly beautiful in round 14. Really fabulous on PAL. 256120
  4. SDX is always on hardware. This can be cart (like SDX cart, atarimax, sic, Myide, Side) internal (like U1MB) or external (like on Ide+) On atari level you can say that SDX is always on cart. That is how it is designed. You can't get SDX in your atari loading it from disk. Of course you could have SDX on cart and then have a disk booted from D1. But that is then a disk with an autoexec.bat
  5. I have used many 800XE's. They are also around since 1985 (I have seen advertisements of the 800XE on the back of Happy computer magazine from 1985). Except for GTIA issues I can not confirm that the computers are unstable or in another way problematic. I have seen stability issues though but those are not limited to just the 800xe. I remember I had to modify my BlackBox to work properly with my XE's and I can confirm what @flashjazzcat writes: uno cart fails on many of my PAL XE's. But I also have a pretty large collection of 800XL's also suffering from all kind of weird timing behavior. In the end I am very satisfied with my 800XE's. They never seem to die. Downsides are though: too sharp video with all kind of vertical lines. Sooner or later keyboard dies (I have a large box of failing keyboards), xe case turns into yellow pretty fast, motherboard is ok as long as you leave it alone. I have been using lately an 800xe with faulty GTIA. And where I always hated them I now found it not even that annoying. I can not say I did run into a lot of GTIA crap.
  6. I guess this message is Spy Ship Sighted. I believe now that this is the Spy Ship. You can score different points. I have seen 200, 300, 400 and 800. 800 Happens when this thing explodes together with an asteroid. 200, 300, 400.... it is still not clear how to influence this score. First I thought it had to do with how near the spy ship was when it's hit... but that does not have any influence on the score. But I seriously doubt it that this works genuinely right in the game. Even when you completely ignore this ship, you will not get into RED CONDITION sometimes, and sometimes you get in RED CONDITION even when there was no SPY SHIP SIGHTED message at all, or even when you did shoot the Spy Ship. So I hope that is fixed in the updated version. Or perhaps someone can confirm that this 'RED CONDITION' is random in the a8 version (and not linked to the spy ship).
  7. If you need assistance in any step, please let us know. 1. Create 16MB atr (65535 sectors, double density -> 256 bytes/sector). There are several ways doing this. 2. Put ATR from step 1 in D3: of your Sio2SD 3. Put SpartaDos 3.2g or 3.3b ATR on D1: 4. Boot the Atari. SpartaDos will be booted if everything is right. 5. Start the tool HDINIT (I hope it is on the spartados disk in D1:) 6. Format the HD partition in D3: (the ATR from Step 1) 7. Copy from D1: the SpartaDos file to D3: (like X32G.DOS) 8. Go to D3: by typing D3: followed by RETURN 9. Type BOOT X32G.DOS (if that was the SpartaDos systemfile) 10. Your partition is now ready to be used. Swap D3: to D1: and you can boot.
  8. Oh my!!! Finally above 200k 201920 if I saw this correctly Extra life at 20000 70000 120000 170000 220000 Not been there, but I suppose 270000.... Still not sure what the spy ship is. Is it perhaps that red one that gives you 200, 300 or 400 points? (And what makes that you get 400 points? I have still not figured out how...)
  9. This game absolutely is amazing. 196520
  10. Best word processor for 8bit atari is of course The Last Word written by @flashjazzcat. Best invention since the wagonwheel and sliced bread. Does need XL/XE though. It has Printerdriver for your printer.
  11. I read about another meeting that was cancelled due to corona. Any chance this will apply to Nomam as well?
  12. I really enjoy playing this game. 135780
  13. 125150 progress is slow but slightly improving though.
  14. Could you or anybody else tell me how to recognize the so called spy ship. In the documentation I read that when you do not destroy the spy ship you'll get the condition red. So far I have had no idea when this condition red happens and I want to be able to prevent it. Could you help me and explain that? I would appreciate that a lot. Thanks!
  15. Is of bonus life at 20K and 70K or more frequent. Couldn't find that info.
  16. Ok I have changed my opinion. This game absolutely kicks ass.
  17. Is this true? I thought the OS ROM contained the Characterset. ANTIC probably handles it. But I can be wrong of course.
  18. I always create a single file floppy disk (which also could be an atr of course) with the HSC game. I love to play that game till the next round then I create new floppy (using the same disk). I am in PAL land though. I create the floppy with the US speed initializer. It is one of the fastest filemenu.
  19. Yes. Me too. It is so different than Mr. Do! There are some elements in Bosconian I really like. It looks really fabulous, the controls are very accurate and the sound and music is great. Gameplay is fun and challenging too. There is most certainly a will to start again after I lost my last ship. But there is also something I dislike. I can not say exact what it is. Is the game too hard? Is there too much going on that feels random? Is it slightly boring? Is it something else. I am not sure yet. I have to play this game many more times before I know what really holds me back. The game is exceptionally well done. I think it can be just me not matching with the gameplay yet. I will retry and improve and probably and hopefully I will appreciate it more too soon.
