Strange Unit with RED PCB - Opinons required please!
Avon Fox replied to Johnywilson's topic in Hardware
I came across this post totally by chance and saw it was my old Six Switch and my site you're talking about. To add some more details with regards to Dragonstomper's reply: The speaker slot difference that I thought was odd was that from the front you can't see the speaker slots as you can on what I'm used to seeing with a six switch woody (compare the two photos below). It may also just be that in Australia the lower photo was more common. The RCA lead I'm fairly convinced was original and looked factory made. It is a standard RCA (red rubber sheath) plug at the TV end and a RF plug on the console side as pictured. The RCA end would not fit in to a RF in on a TV so if it was replaced then it wasn't used for standard TV input. This was the first thing that got my attention when I bought it to start with. As you said, the wood grain not coming right up (compare below for new comers), the PCB colour (check my site) and a number of other component and slight variances that were all seen on one unit certainly kept me interested for a while. I could account for the variances if it was just when the units started to get made elsewhere but it's stamped Sunnyvale and does have that feel of being cobbled together. Fingers crossed one day someone replies back with an answer on this on. -
SN: 62818 PAL Australia Wood veneer continues up onto the flat, top surface at the front. Main board: C012283 REV A - Printed on a Green PCB as opposed to a Red one. Switch board: C012173 REV B No "Speaker" vents in the ribbed, flat casing plate No colour band around the switch plate Numerous component variations from most light sixers http://www.the-liberator.net/site-files/retro-games/hardware/Atari-2600/atari-2600-odd-6-switch-woody-sunnyvale-rev-a-1978.htm

If Atari made a new console, what would it be called?
Avon Fox replied to magikarpow's topic in Atari 2600
Atari CartRAGE! Although consumers might start rapidly calling it the ROMJob. -

Hahah, there's a good chance! My nick is unimaginatively my actual name too. -

Actually while I think of it if anyone could tell me the company that released this version of Donkey Kong Junior http://www.the-liberator.net/site-files/retro-games/games/atari-2600-games/atari-2600-donkey-kong-junior.JPG I'd certainly appreciate. I thought at first it might have been liken a one off, home made label until I saw another on eBay the same. -

Thank you very much for those. I'd not seen AtariBoxed before and it looks like a great resource! -

Sorry if I made a mistake. Should I not have posted here? I'm happy to remove the post. -
Hi thar folks; a while ago I posted 1800 hardware images on my site vowing to return when I did the carts. I've finally finised the Atari 2600 listings with over 700 images of carts and box art for that console a alone; there's over 3500 inc.other systems. As I'm in Australia it might be the first time you've seen some of these HES, Hi-Score / Action Hi-Tech, Rainbow Vision and mostly PAL / "International Edition" carts; at least in large, nice and clear photos anyway. Long term project that I'm very happy is mostly over hopefullly of interest and help to some of you. http://www.the-liberator.net/site-files/retro-games/index.htm Enjoy! Avon

I picked one of these up in a pawn shop ultra cheap today and have to agree, it's a little cheap feeling but it works a treat. The controllers are the cheapest feeling part and I've not yet dug out my SEGA ones to test and see if it works. The sound in Sonic & Knuckles is a little off running on the built in game but when you play the actual cart it was fine; at least mine was. Has anyone tested it with NTSC / Region 1 games? I've tested it with PAL Region 2/4 only. EDIT: I should add that mine doesn't have the NTSC/PAL switch on the back like some seem to have. I pulled the shell apart and it appears to have the solder points for it with P/N printer on the PCB so I'll have to test it and see if it auto detects the region and switches or whether I have to solder a switch on and if that's going to work.

1,800 photos of classic hardware in pieces!

The server's getting absolutely flogged since I put the posts up on the forum so if it's slow to respond it's because so many people are accessing it. You can keep trying or have another go a little later on. -

That's the best feedback of all vcoleiro1 and exactly why I started doing it in the first place after I found an old console I had when I was a kid on someone else's site. : ) -

Certainly! I have a Vectrex in bits at the moment. It's pretty time consuming but I'd not seen anything like it on-line so thought it worth putting up. -

Cheers. There's a few that aren't that good but once I was better set up they started coming out okay. Now I've got to work through 500+ cartridges/instructions/box art, etc. - *wheeze* -
Bit of a cross post as I didn’t really know where it best fit – Mods, please feel free to remove if it’s not appropriate. I’ve just put up on my site 1,800 photos of classic game console and microcomputers disassembled piece by piece and thought that some folks here might be interested. The site is www.the-liberator.net and content may be used freely as long as the watermark remains unchanged. This was a huge project and I’m hoping that some of it might be of use to the community in general. Comments on the site are mostly personal opinion and feedback is certainly welcome. More hardware will come as I get time to photograph it. Enjoy! Enjoy!
