Best Home Version of Defender?
Lentzquest replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
2600 version for me, but I'm not fond of the insane difficulty of the arcade version. The Arcade Classics Game boy version is interesting in it's own right. It moves at ludicrous speed. -
GB and GBC hidden gems?
Lentzquest replied to ComputerSpaceFan's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's flat-out RBI Baseball in all it's glory for the GB. There's an option to play a 6 inning game as well. Perfect for the crapper. Blades of Steel is another extremely faithful port on the GB, or NHL Blades of Steel for GBC. -

The Beeshu Zipper controllers for the NES are fantastic. They're still one of my go-to controllers.

Which games have you spent the most time playing?

Phalanx on the SNES: I seem to remember Lion King for the Game Boy being nothing but a wall of legal text as well. Edit: That baby from Super Bust-a-Move always was creepy as he looks spot-on Butterball from Hellraiser.

Star Wars: Which is the best title from Parker Bros.?
Lentzquest replied to gilsaluki's topic in Atari 2600
I gotta go with Death Star Battle by a mile with ESB & Arcade tied for 2nd. This is coming from somebody that has rediscovered them all in the last 10 years or so. I didn't have any of the four BITD but remember playing ESB at a friend's house. I also have a distinct memory of my dad steering me away from picking out jedi battle as a kid. -
Games you think are worth their high price?
Lentzquest replied to Dashopepper's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Tengen Tetris is worth the price in my opinion. Gotta love the co-op mode. Granted it's never been stupid expensive either, just kind of elevated. I'd also throw in Jack Bros for the Virtual Boy. The library is so tiny that you may as well make an effort to get the best games for it in order to justify owning the thing. Jack Bros is a good time. -
Drop a 32X in the top.

How come a lot getting into retro games skip Atari?
Lentzquest replied to totallyterrificpants's topic in Atari 2600
I'm glad that most don't pay a lot of attention to pre-NES. I think that's one of the things that keeps the community here enjoyable. Well, just as long as you stay out of the Jaguar section of the site. That's kind of the mosh pit. -
2600 games that astounded you back in the 80 ' s (or even 90's)
Lentzquest replied to ave1's topic in Atari 2600
As a kid I always found Dragonfire to be very impressive. I'm not really sure why. -
Honestly the only really good version is the arcade/mame. It's also on one of the Midway Arcade Treasure installments, but I haven't personally tried that one.
-
For me it'd be Crazy Climber, Chuck Wagon, or Bumper Bash. Not sure which is harder to come by.
-
Dragonfire if you count two screens as multi.

When shopping for a system I recommend looking for one with a good 30+ game lot attached. Lots are the best way to get most of the commons (and a few uncommons) while not overpaying. For example, picking up Defender on ebay sets you back a hefty $3 or so. But in reality it's more like a 50 cent game. Hitting that price point is easy for dozens of titles if picking them up in bulk.

Watch out Halloween gamers (Frankenstein's Monster)
Lentzquest replied to ClintTX's topic in Atari 2600
I enjoy it just fine. And a quick search shows multiple copies available for under $20. Seems really strange to start a thread to tear down a game that nobody was even presently talking about. -
I'd also highly recommend Bumper Bash. Fun game and a unique use of the paddle controllers.

So that's what Beyond is...
-
Maybe but it's never quite the same as a professionally stamped disc. Also it doesn't cater to my infinite laziness.
-
I would definitely be in favor of a physical re-release. It's really the only release I missed out on that I'd love to own. CD or cart, I'd go for either.

Which was the first Atari game to have a title screen?
Lentzquest replied to helderuto's topic in Atari 2600
So Star Raiders it is! Even though it's very plain. Besides, the better question is who did it right? Double Dunk FTW! -
SNES SHMUPS: From Worst to Best (video)
Lentzquest replied to Austin's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I always thought Xevious was credited as the father of the modern scrolling shoot-em-up. Games like Scramble and Galaga were earlier, but Xevious was the first to truly provide the shmup template.
