  1. 2600 version for me, but I'm not fond of the insane difficulty of the arcade version. The Arcade Classics Game boy version is interesting in it's own right. It moves at ludicrous speed.
  2. It's flat-out RBI Baseball in all it's glory for the GB. There's an option to play a 6 inning game as well. Perfect for the crapper. Blades of Steel is another extremely faithful port on the GB, or NHL Blades of Steel for GBC.
  3. Extra Bases The Adventures of Star Saver Qix Mystical Ninja Battle Unit Zeoth Golf Yars' Revenge (Cool cutscenes in this version)
  4. The Beeshu Zipper controllers for the NES are fantastic. They're still one of my go-to controllers.
  5. Eve Online Secret of Mana - SNES RBI Baseball Series Beamrider - 2600 Chocobo's Dungeon - Wii
  6. Phalanx on the SNES: I seem to remember Lion King for the Game Boy being nothing but a wall of legal text as well. Edit: That baby from Super Bust-a-Move always was creepy as he looks spot-on Butterball from Hellraiser.
  7. I gotta go with Death Star Battle by a mile with ESB & Arcade tied for 2nd. This is coming from somebody that has rediscovered them all in the last 10 years or so. I didn't have any of the four BITD but remember playing ESB at a friend's house. I also have a distinct memory of my dad steering me away from picking out jedi battle as a kid.
  8. I bought the baseball one a couple months ago. I like it, it's pretty authentic. I really want the Hockey one, but I'm not sure if it's currently being reproduced.
  9. Tengen Tetris is worth the price in my opinion. Gotta love the co-op mode. Granted it's never been stupid expensive either, just kind of elevated. I'd also throw in Jack Bros for the Virtual Boy. The library is so tiny that you may as well make an effort to get the best games for it in order to justify owning the thing. Jack Bros is a good time.
  10. I'm glad that most don't pay a lot of attention to pre-NES. I think that's one of the things that keeps the community here enjoyable. Well, just as long as you stay out of the Jaguar section of the site. That's kind of the mosh pit.
  11. My model 1 Sega CD has been nothing but a pain for the number of years I've had it. The thing works, but is extremely prone to freezing mid-game. I've always intended to pick up a model 2, but haven't been able to catch a deal on one in good shape.
  12. As a kid I always found Dragonfire to be very impressive. I'm not really sure why.
  13. Honestly the only really good version is the arcade/mame. It's also on one of the Midway Arcade Treasure installments, but I haven't personally tried that one.
  14. For me it'd be Crazy Climber, Chuck Wagon, or Bumper Bash. Not sure which is harder to come by.
  15. Dragonfire if you count two screens as multi.
  16. When shopping for a system I recommend looking for one with a good 30+ game lot attached. Lots are the best way to get most of the commons (and a few uncommons) while not overpaying. For example, picking up Defender on ebay sets you back a hefty $3 or so. But in reality it's more like a 50 cent game. Hitting that price point is easy for dozens of titles if picking them up in bulk.
  17. I enjoy it just fine. And a quick search shows multiple copies available for under $20. Seems really strange to start a thread to tear down a game that nobody was even presently talking about.
  18. The original post makes it sound like you've already chosen and don't want to admit it. 2600 & PS1. Pick up flash carts for the rest. If space becomes a major concern then focus on the Game boy lines. I sizable collection there still fits in a small tote.
  19. I'd also highly recommend Bumper Bash. Fun game and a unique use of the paddle controllers.
  20. Maybe but it's never quite the same as a professionally stamped disc. Also it doesn't cater to my infinite laziness.
  21. I would definitely be in favor of a physical re-release. It's really the only release I missed out on that I'd love to own. CD or cart, I'd go for either.
  22. So Star Raiders it is! Even though it's very plain. Besides, the better question is who did it right? Double Dunk FTW!
  23. I always thought Xevious was credited as the father of the modern scrolling shoot-em-up. Games like Scramble and Galaga were earlier, but Xevious was the first to truly provide the shmup template.
