  1. Some of my all-time favorites: RBI Baseball '95 (32X) RBI Baseball 3 (NES) Realsports Volleyball (2600) Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational (Vita) Blades of Steel (NES & Game Boy) Super Baseball 2020 (Genesis) Brutal Sports Football (Jaguar) Mario Strikers Charged (Wii) and pretty much any bowling game on the Wii To this day I would love to find an RBI Baseball arcade game in good condition, or a Capcom Bowling arcade machine. I used to play Capcom Bowling a lot back in the day at a local place when there was a line for the Street Fighter II machine. Over time I found myself having so much fun with it that I'd go straight to it rather than play the fancier stuff. That giant trackball was so much fun, and since you always got to play the full 10 frames you knew you'd get your 50 cents worth.
  2. I decided to spend some time with Double Dunk today and for whatever reason remembered this thread. The attract mode on this guy is awesome! The music is good without being too overbearing, and the little guys dancing to it really push it over the top. Wish I'd have given this game more love sooner.
  3. $250? Good lord, I have at least two spare copies around here that I need to look into getting rid of.
  4. I never really knew there were two versions either. I definitely prefer the 2D style. Crazy times, those early 80s....
  5. It's really difficult and subjective to claim which games might be perfect. Thinking back on the games that have truly blown me away in every regard I'd have to go with: Secret of Mana Soulcalibur 3 F-Zero Tempest 2000 Eve Online SimCity Link's Awakening Juno First Outrun
  6. While still not the best game in the world, Ghostbusters on the 2600 is infinitely more playable on the Atari than the NES. It only takes a matter of maybe 15-20 minutes to enter the Zool building at most, there's no awful (and impossible) stairwell climb, the ghosts look like little Slimers, and the proton beams look like proton beams instead of white diamonds. The whole thing is fairly impressive for a 2600 game and can be beat in a single short sitting which makes it worth pulling off the shelf once and a while. There's even a little ending sceen with a couple of the Ghostbusters in front of the building. Also, I have both Klax and Fatal Run and have no problem playing them on a NTSC tv. The trick is to have an older tv with a vertical hold adjustment. It only takes me a second or two to dial the flipping screen still. There was even a Ghostbusters II released in PAL regions although I've never played it.
  7. Miniature Golf is another Atari first party game that was only available as text-only, at least in the US. I think certain PAL regions managed to get it with a picture label. Australia maybe?
  8. What are the three loose carts on top of the shelving?
  9. I ordered a pair of these to check them out. For anyone interested I'm pleased to say that they scroll super-smooth on original hardware with no jitter whatsoever. Also the side buttons are super-clicky. I love that!
  10. Lock 'n' Chase is an M-Network game, so it only has an end label. The end label will only be black with blue lettering, or white with black lettering. I personally go with the blue lettering labels for consistency in my collection. As for gameplay, it's a really good Pac-Man clone. That's what people generally mean by maze games. Things like Maze Craze are more few and far between. Other decent maze games for the 2600 are Jawbreaker, Bank Heist, Mouse Trap, and Alien.
  11. Lock 'n' Chase is a must-have that I don't see listed. It's one of the best maze games for the system in my opinion.
  12. Gangster Alley and Warplock would be pretty cool to play with a light gun. Plaque Attack would be fun too as you're defending the teeth.
  13. I'd have to go with Imagic and Dragonfire. Almost all of Imagic's titles are very well done. Even though Beamrider is my favorite 2600 game, I can't really say I care that much for most of Acivision's other offerings.
  14. Reactor comes to mind, so does Worm War I. Sometimes I feel like Worm War I has every sound in it the 2600 was capable of. There's also China Syndrome's ultimate game over animation, but that would probably make people's ears bleed.
  15. As far as Yars goes, I really love the imagery of the distortion stripe running down the screen. Somehow capturing that would make a really great shirt or album cover. Maybe something like this except by an actual skilled artist and with in-game Yars Revenge font style:

    ZOOP!

Zoop is great but the Jag isn't really my go-to version just because of the controller's D-pad. It does look and sound great though. For home consoles I prefer the Genesis just because of the nice controller. However at the end of the day, I've logged far more time playing the original Game Boy version than any other. The gameplay is in tact, but the Game Boy's limitations help filter out most of that weird cutesy mid-90s style that the game has. I'd recommend the GB version to anybody and it shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks.
  17. For original releases my vote goes to Lock 'n' Chase. I find the aesthetic and sounds of the arcade and other versions very unappealing, but the 2600 version is simply perfect. In fact it's still my favorite maze game for the system. For homebrews I absolutely say Juno First. That's in my top two for the system of all time!
  18. I really want River Patrol, but the price is ridiculous so I'm pretty much dreaming.
  19. Plain old 2600 Pac-Man as far as that franchise goes. While I have superior versions available, I still have a soft spot for the original. But I must admit Lock n Chase has it beat for overall play time by a very wide margin.
  20. There's a rocket possible in Chetiry? New goal has been found!
  21. With the paddles I always find myself going back to Super Breakout. It really captures the essence of all a video game needs to be. Honorable mention goes to Bumper Bash. While one of the coolest games played with the paddles, I suppose it really shouldn't count since it only uses the buttons and not the dial.
  22. The guy who made the clear Star Castle cartridges had machine milled some of them, so he might have a cad file for you. The material used shouldn't make that much of a difference.
  23. I've always really liked: Crystalis Toobin' Blades of Steel '99 Yars' Revenge Also, I'd recommend picking up Dragon's Lair and Mortal Kombat 4 if you come across them cheap. They're not the best of games, but very interesting curiosities. With Dragon's Lair it's amazing that they were able to pull off an arcade port on the GBC hardware. The animation is even kind of charming in a way. As for MK4, it's the only version of the game that isn't 3D so it plays more like traditional MK but with MK4 characters. It also has bizarre cut-scene style fatalities that were never put in any other version.
  24. I'm missing Star Raiders and Football. I never wanted to get Star Raiders unless it came complete with the controller, paperwork, overlay, etc. So far I haven't found one in the wild that meets my picky standards for it. As for Football, I always seem to forget that I'm missing it whenever I come across it, that's how little I've cared about it.
  25. Do you do requests or commission work? I would really love to get the batter from Home Run like this.
