  1. The coolest part of this thread is Michael Rideout (sp?) himself casually mentioning he still has the gold chalice from the fireworld competition. Now that is cool.
  2. I'm not looking to play every game though. Just the games of the official library I'd like (the two big ones being Montezuma and Gremlins) and a few A8 conversions like the Donkey Kongs. Maybe a few prototypes but I'd have to see first if I'd like them. I don't need 200+ games. Even just 20 really great games would be plenty for me.
  3. I guess I never mentioned this, but I got the previously mentioned 5200 lot on eBay. The box was a classic eBay package, nearly zero padding, stuff is probably broken inside. Thanks Pitney Bowes. It shouldn't really be a surprise from a recycling company, but everything inside that box was filthy. So dirty, alcohol was not enough. I had to get a bucket of soap and water. I kid you not. They all cleaned up nicely but, good grief, where was this thing stored? In someone's backyard? Here's a pic of it all cleaned up. As I began testing everything, I found that the 5200 console, 2600 adapter and 5200 games all work. That's, well, not exactly a surprise with cartridges. But you know what WAS a surprise? They 5200 controllers work. THEY WORK. I haven't found any games that use all the keypad buttons, but the fire buttons and start/pause/reset buttons on both controllers work fine. Who would have thought the pile of almagordo-style 5200 stuff would have working controllers? I'm also waiting for a package of a few more 5200 carts. I have my eyes on Montezuma's Revenge, really want that one.
  4. Here's my short rainbow Jr.: NTSC Atari Corp. Made in Taiwan Serial # AT860471706
  5. Yep, get a local PSU with the right output and barrel connector. I've never understood people not doing that for AC adapter consoles. The only time you're actually screwed is with consoles that have a built in PSU. I don't get that either, an internal PSU takes up so much space, why not use an AC adapter?
  6. Analogue Interactive needs to put their wood where their mouth is and release an Atari 2600 encased in real wood, or at least add real wood paneling to the 6 and 4 switch models. Pun sort of intended I guess.
  7. Sounds like I'll get my money's worth out of the 5200 then. How convenient that 5200 Pac-Man was also common, but far better. I know the 5200 is significantly more advanced than the 2600, thus feeling more like a usual console of that time than a dinosaur (though the dinosaur is still fun). But like a previous thread said, the 5200 almost has a luxury feel to it. It has updated versions of 2600 titles, often at times they're never talked about. It ought to be a fun extension of my already fun 2600 collection.
  8. I'd have to think over an Atarimax SD, whether there's non-cart games I'd want. $130 is a lot. I might end up being satisfied with the base library and a couple homebrew titles. For $130 I could get a Mega Everdrive and have access to more games overall (Genesis + SMS + 32X). I didn't say I got a 2600 adapter for $50, I mean it tends to sell for that much and it was very cheap in this system bundle I bought. Even if it's not particularly great, I'd at least like to try it out. Maybe it'd make a good standalone 2600 system, just add power and AV jacks. How are the Atari ports? Are they more improved than the Activision titles?
  9. Is an Atarimax SD for $130 actually worth it? That's more than what I've paid for my initial 5200 stuff so far (it was $100 shipped but was a good deal, the 2600 adapter is $50 alone). Are all the worthwhile carts that aren't rare valued higher than $130? I just need loose carts. I have 50 different 2600 cartridges and it's nice having individual carts instead of a flash cart. Takes too much effort to get more games so I enjoy what I have more. What is the trak-ball controller worth? Does it work with more than just Super Breakout and Missile Command? How about some thoughts on the updated 2600 titles you can get for 5200? I'd love to try the Activision titles like Pitfall and Keystone Kapers. Lots of 5200 titles never made it to the 7800, that was a big draw for me. The 2600 versions of stuff like Kaboom and River Raid are iconic now, nobody ever talks about the 5200 versions. How are they?
  10. So I will soon have a 5200 console, two port model I think. It comes with a 2600 adapter, a few games, two controllers and of course some 2600 stuff. Do you guys have any game suggestions? The ones I'll start with are Super Breakout, Defender, Popeye, Pole Position, Galaxian and Soccer. I'd like to get Gremlins and Montezuma's Revenge. And about those controllers. I know the contacts corrode and they stop working. Where do you guys get gold contact pads? Or is there some fix for the old contacts? Feel free to add any other relevant thoughts and information here.
  11. The 7800 really doesn't have enough games to warrant having one if you mostly want to play 2600 games. Sure the homebrew is nice but beyond that, there isn't much. Unless there's some key 7800 you cannot live without, you can get the majority of the Atari experience from the 2600. If anything, the 5200 has more classics than the 7800, so that is an option to consider.
  12. Should I have censored those pics before posting?
  13. I've got a Princess Rescue cart for sale on NintendoAge. http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=66845
  14. UPDATE: Tototek has refunded my money, all is well. I commend Tomy for refunding me, even if it's 2 months later. I would update the first post and thread title, but AtariAge seems to be communist and won't allow that... (okay I don't seriously mean that) Thanks for your support 108 stars. Yes I overreacted, looking back, but one can get awfully desperate when no options are left. Yeah there was plenty of uncertainty at times with Pier Solar, though I hopped on the band wagon with the first reprint run. It's still a fantastic game, I love having it. Pier Solar makes my Genesis feel brand new all over again. I will consider buying from Tototek in the future, seeing as he came through with a refund. Is there any hope an AtariAge mod will edit the thread to say "Tototek refunded my money"?
  15. That proto has been floating around for quite some time already.
  16. That first video shows a pretty early version, the one that was released on NintendoAge. There was a second cardboard box release, with more music and added authenticities to the original arcade game.
  17. Yes I have replied to his offer, I even provided him with a paypal address via PM. I won't be retracting statements until I actually have a refund though. 108 stars, I understand Tototek has been in business for a long time, and has a good reputation among those who know. I was just getting tired of sending dozens of emails and getting no response. Since paypal wouldn't help as it's been too long, my only other option seemed to post a tally of this failed transaction on various forums, maybe in some vague hope some shit stirring would get a reply out of Tomy. If I receive a refund, I may consider giving Tototek a second chance... Well, if the items I want don't include lithium batteries that is.
  18. I hope you don't wander into NintendoAge anytime soon, they have no problem using retro as if it meant something actually old.
  19. What other conclusion should I come to? Any sane person would assume they have been had at this point. I am willing to retract my statements if Tomy comes through, but I feel I am perfectly justified to call bullshit when I see it.
  20. Where should this go then? This place is really confusing with it's hundreds of forums and sub-forums.
  21. Repost from the tototek forum (I'm hoping this will either get Tomy to actually respond to me, or warn others) http://www.tototek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4438 I'm mostly just ranting at this point. Do not buy from Tototek!
  22. The word you are looking for is retro, which means something new, designed to look old in a favorably hip way. It doesn't actually mean old.
  23. Newly released January 1st. Apparently it's compatible with virtually every Genesis and clone ever made. Perfect for those awful sounding Model 2s. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?26568-Introducing-the-Mega-Amp-The-universal-Genesis-audio-circuit
  24. It looks good to me, though you could always put copyright stuff across the empty white space.
