  1. Today is one if my ventures into Chinatown after my very first time which was when I stuffed my face with "Chinese MiniCakes" Anyways, I recently found that there is actually a video game store on Elizabeth and Canal (streets in Chinatown~for the non-New Yorkers). I thought at first it was just going to be another GameStop-esque kind of place until I learned that they have Atari Games... Now we're talking. So later today I'll probably post, on this thread, a review.

  2. You can only create a poll when you start a new topic. To do so, click on the "Manage Topic Poll" link on the right side of the page after you click on the "Start New Topic" button. You'll then see a popup window with the poll options. Here are two screenshots so you can see what should be appearing for you (click on them for a larger view):

This will likely not work if you don't have Javascript enabled.

I'm still a bit confused, after you click finish on the Poll Manager, Does it post it up on the forums or do you have to type in the New Topic box?

  3. My new project is to repair this white dot Vectrex I just bought, although I think I am running out of things to try!

System starts with sound and the built-in game. White dot at bottom center of screen.

    > cap kit. Done. All replaced (extremely hard to do as it is so easy to tear up the board traces). No change.

    > swapped the two small socketed IC's near the back of the logic board with ones from working unit. No change. Both work in working Vectrex.

    > reflowed solder in power connection from logic board to power board. No change.

    > replaced Q502 BU407 NPN. No change.

    > desoldered IC6622, installed 40-pin socket, swapped with working Vectrex 6622. No change. Both CPUs work in working Vectrex.

    > checked continuity. All seems ok.

    > voltage checked at power board per Service Manual. OK.

As I said I'm running out of things to try.

I've read most of the information on the Internet on repairs...

Any suggestions on what to do next? (I don't have an oscilloscope unfortunately.)

    It could be the display?

  4. How do you start a poll?

I know I've been on AA for close or more than 6 months, but I still can't figure out how to start one. No one has told me and I am still confused.

Once I'm in the Poll of the Week section it says you cannot start a new topic where it usually says to start one. Do you have to subscribe?

  5. How did this work?

The Lightpen sends a negative edge pulse to "button 4" when it senses a certain intensity of light. The software on the program cartridges places a "crosshair" on the screen or monitors predetermined text menu selections. By aiming the Lightpen at this crosshair it draws a shape similar to a bullseye. As the pen is moved, it crosses the rings of the bullseye and this new position is detected and made to be the new center. In this manner the bullseye crosshair may be dragged across the screen. If it is lost by the Lightpen, it must be "picked up" again. words from: playvectrex.com
