  1. Hello all, I've completed my Squares! game for the ColecoVision, and it's available for sale... Additional information, including a downloadable demo version, instructions, and screen shots can be found here: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=105495 A review can be found at ColecoNation: ColecoNation Issue 11, Page 10 The game is "cartridge only" (although a folded instruction sheet is also included). The cartridge housing was purchased from opcode. The label is professionally printed on glossy stock: The PCB is custom-made, with gold fingers and a beveled edge: Here's the details: Edit: These are available exclusively at AtariAge's store at this point. Although AtariAge has a decent number available, I'm personally all out of assembled units... although I've got parts for more, including labels. Thanks, 5-11under
  2. Here are the instructions to the full version. For the demo version, ignore the starting levels, pause feature, and hyperspace... Welcome to Squares! Squares! is a fast-paced game where you need to avoid the other squares, anticipating their movement, to last as long as possible and obtain a high score. Your Controller Press the joystick left, right, up and down to move your white square. The left fire button activates invincibility. It can also be used to activate your next square (see below). The right fire button activates hyperspace. The “0” key can be pressed to pause and subsequently continue play. Starting a New Game Ensure that the ColecoVision is powered off. Insert the Squares! cartridge into the ColecoVision, then power on the ColecoVision. The start-up screen will appear. There are five difficulty levels: kids, normal, medium, difficult, extreme (in increasing difficulty). Make a selection by pressing the corresponding number on the keypad. The game will begin. At the right of the screen you will see the highscore (from any gameplay level), as well as your current score. There are also indicators for the quantities of invincibility credits available (indicated by small flashing square), hyperspace credits available (indicated by small moving square), and number of lives (squares) remaining until the end of the game. Gameplay Throughout the game, the enemy squares will continuously bounce around the outer solid playfield. Your square is bounded by the inner dashed playfield. Use the controller to guide your white square away from the enemy squares. Your score will continue to increase as long as your square is in play. The gameplay will become more difficult as your score increases. You start with 5 squares (10 for the kid’s version). If your square gets hit by an enemy square, your square will disappear, and the available squares remaining will decrease. If you have squares available, one will automatically appear near the top-left of the screen (after a short delay and when the area is clear of enemy squares). Momentarily press the left fire button to make your square appear instantly. The game is over when you have no more squares available. Every once in a while a treasure will appear on the playfield (including fruit and other items). If you catch the treasure, either you will be rewarded with an extra square, or you will be given invincibility and hyperspace credits. If you have available invincibility credits, you can press the left fire button to become invincible for 5 seconds. During this period, you will not lose a life if your square makes contact with any of the enemy squares. If you have available hyperspace credits, you can press the right fire button to activate the hyperspace. Your square will be moved to a new location in the playfield. This is dangerous, however, as you may be placed directly on an enemy square, in which case you will lose a square. Other Information Not all of the details of the gameplay have been divulged. Play the game to figure out the intricacies and timing of events. Most of all, have fun! Squares! is copyright 2007 Harvey deKleine! Label design by Ken Roland!
  3. Hello all, My Squares! game for the ColecoVision is now available for sale. Update: Attached (below) is the final, full version of the game. Enjoy! Also attached is the official demo version of the game. The demo version only has 1 difficulty level, no "cheats", no pause, no bonus sections, limited difficulty advancement at higher scores (ie. about ~20,000), and no hyperspace. That said, the demo version is still very playable, so even if you don't purchase Squares!, I hope you'll enjoy this ROM. You're better off playing the final, full version, though. Thanks, 5-11under Edit: available pretty much exclusively at AtariAge store at this point. At the time of this writing (Thursday, February 21, 2008), AA had 2 copies available. 4. You can get PCBs made, with gold plating, from $0.08 (and probably less) per square inch, including all the materials and labour. The gold can't be worth that much. That said, people do recycle the stuff. 5-11under
  5. Can I vote for Loderunner? I've never seen the ROM. Thanks, 5-11under
  6. Here's a site with various BIOS files: theoldcomputer.com Thanks, 5-11under
  7. Deals are pending on the 5200 keypad/joystick and the GB programmer/reader/cartridge. Thanks, 5-11under
  8. Okay, I haven't received many responses so far, so I've added prices below. Feel free to PM with offers. I'll keep this post updated, so if you're reading this even in the distant future, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'll sell the 5200 keypad and analog joystick (without the non-functional 2-button digital joystick!) for $70 plus actual shipping. I'll sell the GameBoy programmer/reader with cartridge for $35 plus actual shipping. I'll sell the Questar ColecoVision arcade joystick for $250 plus actual trackable courier costs. Thanks, 5-11under
  9. Hello all, I've got a few items for sale... First up is a working Questar joystick for the ColecoVision: Second is a working all-in-one (you'll need 3.5" disks) programmer for the GameBoy, with memory cartridge: Third is a working Wico analog controller and keypad for the Atari 5200. The 2 button digital controller is a freeby thrown in (non-functional: see the frayed cable). If you're interested in any of these item, please PM me an offer. Feel free to reply if you have any questions. I'll keep the items listed until at least Monday March 20. I won't have much access to AA on the weekend, BTW. Bids should be in U.S. dollars, and shipping will be included in the bid price (I will ship the Questar via a trackable courier; the others via mail. FYI, I'm guessing the Questar will cost me about $20 to ship, and the others will cost me $6 to $10). Payment method will be PayPal. I haven't sold much on AA, but did do a decent-sized trade with "Paranoid", and am more popular with regards to selling items at cgcc.ca. Thanks, 5-11under edit: not many offers yet; going with the best one, assuming it hits my minimum.
  10. Hello all, If you're going to be anywhere near Toronto, Ontario, Canada on April 29, 2007, there's going to be a swap meet/video game show. Here's the details, as they unfold: http://www.cgcc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12672 Thanks, 5-11under
  11. Looks good. Great to see you working on a new game! Thanks, 5-11under
  12. Lode Runner already exists on the ColecoVision. It was ported from the SG-1000 version by Steve Bégin. I should know, I own a cart. Unfortunately, most of us have never seen a cart, and I've never seen the ROM anywhere either. 5-11under
  13. I'd like to welcome this thread to 2007! Anyway ColecoNation is not dead; it just moves a little slower these days, it seems. Thanks, 5-11under
  14. Ah, so I'm assuming you're planning to release your Squares game as a real CV cart. That's good news. Yes, if life would stop getting in the way. I'm trying to get the head-to-head version going. Thanks, 5-11under
  15. Actually, the "box" I'm pricing is a VHS case, like some of the (other) CV homebrews, and made of plastic, not cardboard. Assuming I one day get things completed, I'll be adding a foam insert to hold the game, and a cover that slides under the outside sleeve. The majority of the cost, however, will be shipping (from Canada), because with a loose cart, I could get away with about $1-2 postage, where a case would cost about $5-7. Don't let this influence your vote, though... I wrote "box" to be more generic, so people would assume the box is cardboard, just like most 2600 games. I'll review the data afterward based on some of the responses, etc. Thanks, 5-11under
  16. So, assuming this was a game you were interested in purchasing, is the extra cost of making and shipping a box or case worth it to you, all other things being equal. Thanks, 5-11under
  17. I'd like to release my first revision of the MultiCart in a couple of days, so I won't be able to incorporate your requests. They are noted for the revisions to come after that! Brilliant! I'd rather see a limited-functionality release soon than an expaned-functionality release who knows when. Thanks, 5-11under
  18. I've got the cheapest Willem programmer. I may be in the minority, but it works just fine for me. Thanks, 5-11under
  19. Edits for my ColecoVision items: Squares! http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=88281 This is an old thread; should be superceded by the next item. Squares! http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96855 This is the newer thread; the list says 91749, which is actually an opcode item... . Squares! 4K http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=92840 Change to complete (as a 4K version) JETP4K (or Jetpack 4K) http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=92909 Change to WIP (not complete - still has bugs) BTW, this repository is very cool. I found a game I hadn't seen before! Thanks. Thanks, 5-11under Edit: a few quick fixes
  20. Sinclair XZ-80 and XZ-81. They were owned by my brother. 5-11under
  21. He wants $325 shipping for the bass guitar he's selling. I'd PM him if you're interested in the item. Maybe he'll reconsider. Thanks, 5-11under
  22. Happy belated birthday, Eduardo! I'm wondering if you could PM me with status of the CV cases (shipping cost so I can pay you, shipping status). Thanks, 5-11under
