I have never recapped anything. That said, there was a period of time where a lot of caps were built badly. I'm pretty sure I've experienced this is some motherboards and stereo receivers. I'd look at a few factors: Is the build time within (or near) the "bad" times? What's the worst that could happen? If a capacitor goes bad, is it just a matter or replacing that cap, or will other parts fail because of the capacitor failure? Does the particular product seem to have this issue of bad capacitors? After this research, I'd determine whether it was best to replace the capacitors now, or wait until the capacitors go bad, or forget about it altogether because the odds are very slim.

Just curious: was the original 2 layer, or 4 layer?

So, a lot of fancy stuff going on, and then DIP packages?

FYI, I've caught up on the last few days (or so?) worth of orders, and mailed them out today. The online store at https://videogamepcbs.com/products/20-MV-LCD.html shows about 15 units remaining. I do have about 15 more held back, in case of issues, and for personal use. I'll keep those held back for probably at least a month, to ensure everyone who's bought one properly receives it. That might be it, unless there's a convincing reason to order another batch. Thanks to all who have bought these so far. It's definitely appreciated! I think I've nearly broken even on the project (so far - the rest is the gravy or insurance), which is kind of nice, given that that was the ultimate goal for this project.

Not TMS9929A... . Doesn't the main board have extra holes so the 28 pin will fit? Check out the guide.

If there's "white" rows or columns, I would suspect the Zebra connectors. This looks like a different problem, such as the controller chip, or maybe the cartridge connector?

Not yet, but hopefully later this year. I think this is going to be my take on the "Zimba 3000". I'm super busy right now, so I'm just thinking about the implementation so far... Video options: likely going with cheap HDMI to VGA converter (but maybe HDMI - depends on where this thing will end up sitting); will also need a fan, too, though. RAM options: likely going with cheaper $20 CAN 32MB, rather than springing for the ~$100 CAN 128MB. USB options: likely will try a simple USB hub for set-up, but usually just the joystick will be plugged in (unless I need a keyboard for setup/computers). Controller: I'm old school, or just old, so for me, the ideal controller is an arcade controller or something like a CX40 or equivalent - I really don't like most console controllers newer than that (especially "+" shaped D-pads). The MiSTer seems to be pretty good for controller setup, so I'll probably build an arcade controller with joystick, a bunch of fire buttons including "shoulder" buttons (somewhere), keypad, analog joystick, and paddle. My favorite aspects are that the hardware and software seem pretty simple to set up, and I'll be able to play a bunch of systems with the same controller. This will be ideal for me as a barcade or living room setup. I'm not overly concerned with having things such as colors, lag, and scanlines 100% "perfect".

I'm not really looking for Windows for the living room... mostly I just don't want to deal with the Windows UI, a mouse, different emulators and controls, and such... unless there's a simple way around that. MiSTer seems to solve all that, at least it seems so?

After doing some extensive research (5 minutes with Google), it looks like a MiSTer set-up is super easy for hardware set-up, and is also easy for software set-up? Confirm or deny. I've been looking for an easy-to-set-up "living room" system, that can play a wide variety of classic games, with minimum hassle. I've tried the Pi method, but that's not doing it for me, as far as set-up and ongoing simplicity (power on/off, controllers, etc.) - I'm not looking to learn Linux, I'm more looking for an appliance. Is MiSTer right for me? Also, do I need extra RAM for 8-bit console goodness (and maybe a bit of 16-bit, but no Neo-Geo)?

I entered all the current US orders into Canada Post, and printed off the tracking sheets. All the screens are in little protective baggies. I'm cutting up the tracking sheets right now, but won't get to final packaging until Tuesday. Tuesday I'll also take care of the Canadian orders, send out manual shipping e-mails, and if I get a chance, I'll get shipping quotes for the international requests, and reply to those PMs. After that, I'll send out the last batch of awareness PMs.

Unfortunately, the mailing system in my online store doesn't seem to be working at all. The good news, is, though, that the rest of the store is working well. For now, to confirm your order, check your PayPal account, which is best anyway. There might be a bit of delay, but I'll do my best to manually send an e-mail when mailing out the items (until I get it fixed properly).
