  1. just for the record, most old VCR players can be used to convert an RF signal into video / audio out. If you check on the back of an old VCR, and it has phono outs or a SCART. then you can almost certainly connect your old consoles to it, tune it in, and then play it on a newer TV, and even send the audio to an amp. Oh, and you can even record your wonderful high scores whilst playing Pitfall. Oops, that's what I wanted to do 30 years ago. Maybe not now.
  2. most UK TVs are not set up to receive NTSC signals. You'd have to use a PAL converter, which would probably make a pretty icky modulated display even ickier.
  3. I think there is a bit of confusion here between: 1) Using NTSC Carts on a PAL machine on a PAL TV. and 2) Using an NTSC Machine on a PAL TV From what I understand (1) will work as long as you can use PAL 60, but you'll get some incorrect colours and (2) won't work unless you can receive an NTSC signal.
  4. well, I must say I'm not keen on Ebay. They take much too big of a slice. I might actually loan it out to a museum
  5. hi guys I believe one of these may have come up before, but I've searched the net to no avail. In my collection I have this rather marvelous Parker Brothers shop display unit. As you can see from the photo, all in all, it's in very good condition (there are a couple of small cracks in the plastic outer casing at the back. This unit holds 24 cartridges of your choosing, and houses a 2600 inside. It shares power with the 2600, and, once you connect it to the cartridge port and fire it up, it allows you to choose any of the carts to play using the buttons on the front of the system. This was, in effect, a 'try before you buy' system for customers, but also serves as an excellent display for all your favourite carts. I've filled mine with most of the UK Parker carts that are available, together with a few personal favourites. You can switch between all 24 games on the fly. Unfortunately I have to move soon, and so it's possible that I may have to sell this beauty. I was wondering how much you guys thought it might be worth. I imagine there are very, very few of these units still in existence. Thanks in advance!
  6. nope, there are no prices. You just put together what you want and then make me a fair offer.
  7. Hello everyone So here's my story - I live in London and I'm a music promoter / web developer / English teacher - I do a bit of everything to get by. Like the rest of you I'm just a regular chap with geekish tendencies and been collecting stuff for many years and have a very large collection. Now, here's the thing. Times are tough as we all know, so earlier this year I decided to change things. I decided it was time to move on, make a fresh start. And so I am off to teach English in Asia. I can probably put some of my collection in storage, but, as I said, times are tough and I need to get some money together to fund my travel and set up costs. So really, there is only one answer, and that is to sell off a fair bit of my collection. It's breaking my heart but what can I do. The thing is though, I have a LOT of stuff to sell. Probably something like 2000+ items. I'm not interested in asking silly prices for anything - it's just as important to me that they go to a good home and perhaps I'll make a few new retro gaming pals, who will also know they've helped me get me to where I want to go. So, since I do web database development, I decided to set up my own website so that I could keep a handle on all of my stuff. As I am keen to stress, this is not a professional site, it's just something that will allow me to post my stuff in an organised way. So, if you're interested and want to have a browse, the site is: http://www.retrohoarder.com It's not fully working yet but I already have over 1000 items listed with many more to come. Thanks in advance! Al P.S I know I haven't posted before and so you might not feel you can trust me - I can understand that there might be some trepidation. What I can tell you is that I used to use Ebay quite a bit, with positive feedback from over 100 transactions. http://myworld.ebay.com/high-rise If you're interested in anything you can message me on the site and I will get back to you, and I'm happy to give you my phone number if you want to speak to me in person. I'm just a collector with too much stuff, nothing more. I want my collection to go to a good home. If you're in the area, you're even welcome to come to my house to collect your stuff and have a cup of tea!
