How about a sega genesis wireless gamepad? that might be an option...

If you are going cart only, I suggest : Wizard of wor - 2 player fun, Galaxians, Ms.pac-man,Lode runner,Jumpman Jr.,Balllazer, rescue on fractalus,Miner 2049er,Dropzone...the list goes on. check out Atarimania click on cart only, see what rates well. Check the local game shops to see what they have laying around... they have stuff on the cheap.Lance at video 61 has alot of 'em for 20 a piece and Ben at bravo sierra computers here in Portland has a bunch cheap too.Send me a pm and I will compile a list of the best ones if you want. Oh yeah.. Lance made a cart of the original Crystal Castles that is great. ( the original XE is loong gone as is Mario Bros. )

I was running Project Tempest, got a virus, got rid of that... and then no sound. What is THE best emulator that has a GUI and supports a PC joypad?

Here is a comparison between an XE cart and the Video 61 Venture. I love the grey case with the blue label ( XE ) style cart. I am very lucky and happy to recieve #1 of the run. I am sure more are to follow. I would love to see Blaster released on cart, but I bet Williams has the rights to that one...The high-res pic was 2.1MB. This will have to do for now.

Yep. Agree. But he is still one of the best to deal with personaly. I can alway's print a new label....

GREAT. Nice work. It is a good platform/puzzle game. Cheers!

I use Atari 800 Win+. It's not perfect, but I like the interface and options.

I took out the ROM card and made sure the chips were seated... and walla!! It doesn't work at all now. Gonna take it up to bens and put in a different rom card and see if that is the issue. I might even run a salt cart on it to see if that can give me some info...arrrrgggghhhh!

OK, first off... thanks to everyone who has replied! I have taken the 16k case of the mem and put the spacer back in. It is reading all the memory.. I ran a simple program : 10 ? " hello " 20 goto 10. it printed all the way down to the bottom of the screen and then went to garble. I tested this in notepad by holding ' return ' so the screen would scroll down... same thing. I have taken out the display card underneath the keyboard and cleaned the contacts, but I am thinking this is the culprit and not one of the chips on the board. Here is a pic of the garble:

What a great game! Very nice work. I seem to get stuck at a certain point but I must have been tired....

2 of the boards have no case while the third I replaced is brand new from Lance at Video 61. Maybe I should take the case off and put the spacer in? It might be the original power supply not puttin' out enough juice. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Like I stated earlier...All my carts work fine including the 48k Ballblazer and RAF.

Actually ALL my cart games work fine.I took the basic cart out and it still goes funky. In the beginning I had to replace 1 of the 16k boards and jumble them arround to get it to read all 48k. I guess if i'm not going to program it wont be an issue. Maybe i can borrow a SALT cart from my buddy amd find something...I have Venture on the way this week so i hope it doesnt blow up on me.

I have an atari 800 with gtia and 48k. Tested for both. All games run fine (even Ballblazer and Rescue on Fractalus). But when I type in a simple program I get these little hearts popping up on the screen and the farther I type down the screen It fills with a weird garble and wont reset. Should I be concerned with this over time?

How about King Tut's Tomb. It's ok. VERY tutankham-ish. At Atarimania.

What a great way to spend a Sunday! Thanks.

I just picked up a bare bones 520st for $20.00. Thought it was a good deal. My questions are:
1) what is the cheapest mouse I can use?
2) can I hook it up to my VGA monitor? and If I can how will it perform?
3) suggestions for a disk drive ( on the cheap ) or hard drive?
4) can I use my old win xp computer as communications / hard drive?
I Have been in the 8bit scene for a long time ( I have a 800 48k ) and thought it was time to update my hobby. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated! Now it's off to the Web to do some reasearch.
Thanks All!
