Atari 800XL Field Service Manual for download
Paul Westphal replied to russg's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Oh thank you so much! I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my 800xl....Once I get a new power supply, and if that's not it, It's time to check the manual for other possible problems. One power supply gives my a garbled screen, the other a solid white bar on the left side of the screen...Any ideas? -

Paul Westphal replied to ACML's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
A little off topic, but I have a 810 for sale. It worked fine when I got it, but I took it apart and cleaned the internals and the head for good measure. She needs a good home. -

The Indus gt gives me a 'G5 ' error...and the Percom AT88spd wont read. Anybody have any tips or know anybody who works on them? I'm gonna save the other 1050 for parts, keep the working but noisy 810 for giggles.I am also trying to get the 1010 to work. Counted over 150 games on disk. I am now done with inventory. time for some games! [email protected] -

I have been bugging the guys at Video Game Wizards here in Portland, OR for some time now. Some guy dropped it off in tubs. Dilligence paid off for once.Just took inventory of all the disks....and found Popeye cart in good condition. GEEZ. -
Hello my fellow Atarians! I have to brag..for $120.00 I picked up : A 800 w/48k with ps, 1200xl with ps, 800xl with ps that doesn't work, but came with a new motherboard and keyboard, two 1050's, an Indus GT W/ no p.s.,one 810, a wierd percom drive(need info on this one) two tape drives ( 1new in box ), 1030 modem, some other power supplies, crapload of manuals, Atariwriter cart with all docs, Startrek cart W/ box, gorf box ( I fixed it for my copy ), and some broken printer stuff. I obviously cant use all of this so if anyone interested in the stuff I don't need, or need pics, please send me a pm here or e-mail me at [email protected] My gain is ( possibly ) yours to! I Am still taking inventory...

Buying from 4jays: A good thing?
Paul Westphal replied to Paul Westphal's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Just last year I thought B & C had a XEGS with power supply and keyboard only, for 49.99...Those puppies are looong gone... I guess a 'b' condition SALT tested 65xe with newer ps for $105.00 aint so bad now that I think of it...and it's right up the road from me. I have been itchin' to play my copy of (#1) Venture...My 800 just wont play it. I have tried it on another 48k 800 with no probs. ROF and Ballblazer run fine...I will have to get a translator cart-passthrough to play gorf though...Oh well... -

Thanks for all the reply's.I am still interested becuase I actuallly got a response from an e-mail from them stating they have a ' complete ' XEGS for 49.99. I mailed back to make sure it came with the keyboard, and he said it was complete.. the poopsite said otherwise...I just might go with Ben, at Bravo Sierra Computers, and get a 65XE with an updated power supply for $105.00,tested. Once again, thanks for the info all. -
I was going to buy a system from them and was wondering if anybody has ever had any problems. I usually buy from Lance at video61, but these guys are in Cali so it saves me some dough on shipping. ( I could buy a used or new cart for the price of shipping ). Thanks Paul Westphal

POISON's Damned Worlds (prealpha v0.1)
Paul Westphal replied to Poison's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Good work! Thanks for the site as well...I was unfamiliar with that one. Now I can waste even more time listening to great Atari musics! -
There is such a thing as the translator cart..its a pass-through cart that allows you to play the 400/800 games on the xl/xe systems.ENCOUNTER! is an A+ game!

For some people that have not followed the posts about the problems with my 800..All of my carts play, except for Venture ( labeled #1 ) from Lance at video 61. Yes! I tested it on another 800 with 48k..and it ran fine. Rescue + Ballblazer run fine on my 800 so its not a memory issue. I am at a loss, and looking for someone in the Portland Oregon area for a new system..I am also trying to find a salt cart for the 800 to find out whats wrong. FYI... I will NOT deal with Ben from bravo sierra. Lance at Video 61 may have a 65 XE laying arround, but it will take him time to find it as he is busy at this time. Any input would be welcomed and appreciated.

New Atari 520 st user

I found the mouse and cable-Best Electronics...found a scsi adaptor too... -
I just picked up a bare bones 520st for $20.00. Thought it was a good deal. My questions are: 1) what is the cheapest mouse I can use? 2) can I hook it up to my VGA monitor? and If I can how will it perform? 3) suggestions for a disk drive ( on the cheap ) or hard drive? 4) can I use my old win xp computer as communications / hard drive? I Have been in the 8bit scene for a long time ( I have a 800 48k ) and thought it was time to update my hobby. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated! Now it's off to the Web to do some reasearch. Thanks All! Paul

How about a sega genesis wireless gamepad? that might be an option...

If you are going cart only, I suggest : Wizard of wor - 2 player fun, Galaxians, Ms.pac-man,Lode runner,Jumpman Jr.,Balllazer, rescue on fractalus,Miner 2049er,Dropzone...the list goes on. check out Atarimania click on cart only, see what rates well. Check the local game shops to see what they have laying around... they have stuff on the cheap.Lance at video 61 has alot of 'em for 20 a piece and Ben at bravo sierra computers here in Portland has a bunch cheap too.Send me a pm and I will compile a list of the best ones if you want. Oh yeah.. Lance made a cart of the original Crystal Castles that is great. ( the original XE is loong gone as is Mario Bros. )

I was running Project Tempest, got a virus, got rid of that... and then no sound. What is THE best emulator that has a GUI and supports a PC joypad?
-
Here is a comparison between an XE cart and the Video 61 Venture. I love the grey case with the blue label ( XE ) style cart. I am very lucky and happy to recieve #1 of the run. I am sure more are to follow. I would love to see Blaster released on cart, but I bet Williams has the rights to that one...The high-res pic was 2.1MB. This will have to do for now.
-
Yep. Agree. But he is still one of the best to deal with personaly. I can alway's print a new label....
-
Hello all! I just recieved Venture and I would like to say YEAHH!! Sorry I cant run it until I get my rom card for my 800 tomorrow, but here is a pic.. it is in a XE case with blue label...I will give a quick review soon. Paul Westphal
