  1. First off, I'm NOT the "notorious modder" and I'm NOT the modder of the other systems you have posted on FB and yes, it would matter to me how many of these that you've repaired because of you're implications as to "many". You show one system that I modded, claim "many" and I don't understand why the cap on the left is missing, someone had to have removed it. I was never contacted about a problem and I would not sell it like that to someone because I fully test them several times as I do each mod before listing the console. A console simply will not work without that cap, but works fine without the cap on the right after the memory mod, also, I do see the lifted trace on the right and I have no explanation or excuse for that or may have not been worried because that cap is not needed. There's no need to replace the cap on the right only to have it start leaking. I also don't sell them with the RF cover off and the wires for the mod in a mess like that. I route them neatly and tuck them under the cover and have never has an issue with the composite mods. But hey, nice picture of the slightly lifted smd resistor that was tested with no issues and I see you replaced it along with the BIOS chip. Where they not working? You don't say. I've learned over the coarse of modding these consoles, what works and what doesn't. I no longer use machined sockets for the memory or controller IC's because it takes to much heat to get a good solder joint and the legs on the IC's vary from brand to brand causing connection problems. You claim many issues with the board but only point out one and never state what the other issues are except for posting pictures of solder joints and the composite board that has nothing wrong with it besides the fact that I'm guessing you didn't like the looks of it. I admit, solder joints could've been a problem and that's why I stopped using machined sockets and my soldering skills have greatly improved. As for "shame", sorry, I don't have any because I'm not out to rip people off as you're suggesting and I will gladly repair, replace or refund a persons money if they have problems, even many months after purchase. Of all the 50+ I've sold, I've only had 2 returns. 1 because I accidentally bent over a pin on a memory IC which was working fine but after shipping internationally it became an issue. I promptly paid return shipping and refunded his money. As for the other one, they couldn't get it to work because they didn't understand that you needed a power supply in order for it to work. If someone has a problem and they don't contact me, there's nothing I can do about it! You know my user name on Ebay, anyone reading this can check my feedback and see the many great comments left for these consoles. As for hijacking the thread, it's a little late for that, you got the word out and I'm sure you've been itching to call me out for awhile now. As for calling out the OP on his soldering, sure...I could've phrased that better but I only brought it up because I've learned...skills make a difference and that very likely could be the problem with his board. Just trying to help, NOT CRITICIZE! And last but not least, I do have respect for your mods and your work and I'm sorry I don't live up to your standards!
  2. I would be more than happy to repair or replace any console I've sold. Exactly how many have you had to repair?
  3. Your picture you posted of the socketed BIOS looks pretty shakey (no offense). I'm betting that's where your problem is.
  4. I know this is an old thread but I have a question. What chip is supposed to be in the socket with the orange thingie? And are any of those chips available some where or can they be reproduced with an Eprom and a rom burner?
  5. Hi everyone, been awhile since I've posted here. I have a Colecovision pcb I've been trying to troubleshoot. The problem is, the board is an older version and the schematics...the only schematics...I've found seem to be for a later revision. The board revision is 75743 Rev C. The daughter board is revision 75745 Rev B. The console powers on, boots, plays and has sound but no display. Upon opening the console I found that someone had done some work to the daughter board in an attempt to repair it. The problem is every time I try to follow certain traces it leads to something else in the schematics or vice-verse. I've verified voltages are good, cleaned the power switch and tested for video on pin 36 of the VPU. Even if someone can post a picture of the section with the daughter card removed might be helpful. The best would be if there are schematics for this revision but I'm not holding out hope for that Any help or advice would be great, thanks
  6. I didn't think of trying to pull the roms. I did pull some of the other chips though. I'm thinking of getting a eprom burner so I can test and burn new roms for this and my Defender. A nice tool to have in your arsenal. As far as the self test...It will not go into it for some reason. There are two switches for it. One on the sound card and one in the rear of the cab by the coin mech's. The one at the rear was disconnected from the switch, but if I twist the wires together and turn on the machine, it boots normally and goes to attract mode. If I press the left thumb button on the steering control it causes the machine to reboot. The one on the sound card pcb isn't even wired to work. One of the problems with this board set is trying to identify the proper chips for ram and video. My Defender board was a lot simpler to diagnose and has way more documentation available. There doesn't seem to be much online about troubleshooting the "System 1 Boards". I had a line on what I think is the video chip but the guy hasn't gotten back to me yet. He said he had to check his inventory and let me know, that was about 4 weeks ago. I'm sure that it's a bad chip, but finding out which one is the battle. Do you by any chance have a reader/burner? If so what brand? If I get one, I just want to be flexible enough to read and burn newer chips as well as the older ones. There seems to be a fine line with the different brands as to what chips they'll read and burn. A lot of the newer brands wont read the older chips, and the older ones wont read the newer chips. If anyone has recommendations...I'm listening! Thanks for the tips...
  7. Hi, not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I thought I'd try. I have a roadblasters coin op that's not displaying video correctly. It's hard to describe but it only displays certain portions and blacks out in others. If you check out this video you can see the problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNbwijCeLI4 I know it's not the monitor because I've tried 2 different ones. The problem lies in one of the two boards. Not sure which one, but I'd like to figure out which it is, so I can get it repaired. The problem only seems to be getting worse since the time I took the video. The car is barely displayed and the screen goes black at times during the attract mode (like showing "The Enemy"). The longer it's left on the closer it goes back to what you see in the video, but never any better. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
