My power pack for Atari 800 PAL was riveted, and when power cord got broken near the age of the box I had to cut off heads of rivets to get in opened. After the fix I just glued it back.

I can see a lot of changes New sound when Pac-Man dies, new Pac-Man shape, new eyes of dead ghosts, different colours of scored points, and new better PAL colours. Great job! -

Yes you should hear music. What I'm thinking is that SIO cable might be faulty. Silver label Atari 1010 is picking up a lot of interference, is lacking proper screening and this is maybe the reason for thumping. Is hard to say.

OK, on Atari Data recorders right channel is for data, left one for audio. You said that you heard something playing program cassette so data channel should be fine. Have you got second SIO cable to try with? As it was said usual problem with data recorder is drive belt. After years of storage drive belt is deformed but many times I managed to fix it. What you have to do is to remove drive belt from Atari 1010 and put it into a pot of boiling water. I found out that it helps to reshape it. I don't have Atari 1010 with silver label to show you how to do it but you can open yours 1010 and take a photo so I can tell you what to do next. This is my Atari 1010.

I will help you. Please tell me what Atari 1010 you got? With orange or silver label?

First from left screenshot is Pac-Man v1 from Altirra PAL (standard setting), second Pac-Man v8 from Altirra PAL (standard setting). It looks almost the same on real PAL hardware. How do you like colours?

Let the upper left corner be 0,0 Pac-Man should be 15 right,1 down Pinky 15 right,4 down Clyde 10 right,2 down Inky, hmm not existing on atari, Blinky 4 right, 3 down To be honest, I think is ok just to change Pac-Man character(yellow) to the colour from v1.xex for PAL.
