Missing from my first post, page from Atari 400/800 Field Service Manual

@BioFreeze
Thank you for your pictures

I know is hard to take good one. I'm using SLR camera set for White Balance 6500K to match monitor's setting illuminant D65. Using shutter speed 1/8s and slightly defocusing to avoid moire

Have you got Phase setting on your TV? Try to play with it.
You have to wait about 15 minutes before taking picture to let computer warm up. I noticed that color is changing.
My monitor got beam current feedback circuit witch eliminates white balance drift (see the link).

Two weeks ago I bought NTSC Atari 800XL on ebay. I was always interested how those games I loved plays and looks on NTSC. I managed to find a monitor witch can display NTSC. Very cheaply for 45£ I acquired Sony PVN-14L4 Broadcast Monitor. Wow, what a resolution, colors fidelity, linearity.

Next thing I'v done was to adjust color pot on my NTSC Atari 800XL. I followed Atari 400/800 Field Service Manual. Using Colorbars option from Salt 2.05 cartrige you have to make sure that "the color bars above and and below the reference bar identical" Picture in manual points that bar 15 and one below reference bar (thin grey line) has to be same color. I found that you have to wait about 15 minutest to let computer warm up before you perform adjustment.

OK, but there is small problem because Atari 400/800 Field Service Manual says "The color bars directly above and below the reference bar (thin grey line) should be the same color (golden rod)"

What to do? I have tried Phase adjustment in my monitor and come out with this.

But wait a minute, it looks like something I'm familiar with... A PAL

to be continued...

Wrathchild, thank you very much

-
Wrathchild can you possibly recreate Deadline?
-
@Wrathchild
You have unique version of Deadline serial number 801005, the one from Atarimania, and internet is 821108. Please, can you find your 90kb atr files for Infocom games?
@The Usotsuki
820809? Interesting, can you try to write $verify to check if your version is correct? And possibly publish here (zip file)?
@BillC Yes, thank you Planetfall from Holmes CD was fine

I will try now games from nir_dary cd

-
Thank you

Deadline from Holmes is corrupted.
So maybe someone have different version 801005 like the one used by Wrathchild for his compilation?
-
I will know soon, I'm waiting for my NTSC Atari 800 XL
-
Hi Wrathchild
Do you have original 2 sides atr's of Infocom games? Some from Atarimania are with errors, like Deadline or Planetfall when you use $verify. I like to play games from floppy's. Please help me.
Best wishes,

Thank you very much Kr0tki. I used Audacity and a8cas-converter to make it. I tested it on real Atari 800 XL and worked well. So now we have the only copy available from net as far as I know.
-
I would like to share some cas files created with wav2cas from original tapes.
First one will be Zeppelin by Synapse.

I have just loaded Pharaoh's Curse on my Atari 800XL with Atari 1010 tape recorder with standard 600 baud, time 6:33 minutes!
6:58 is from Altirra.
I love Atari tape recorders, my first Atari computer was Atari 800Xl with Atari XC 12 tape recorder back in 1986.
I have few Atari 1010 and XC 12 all in working condition.
Now, with tapes like Maxell UR 60 or TDK D 60 recorded on good quality tape deck using cas2wav, Atari recorders loads games almost without errors.

Pharaoh's Curse loading time from tape 45 minutes???

Only 6:58 minutes
